I wish there was a parkour gym where I live... it looks like so much fun!

99.9% freerunning, 0.1% parkour. Although it may be a parkour gym, I just don't like seeing people call flipping and twirling parkour. When I grew up, parkour was only about getting from point a to point b in the most efficient way possible, and that was what I came to do every time. But now, people think parkour is just for show, not a means of transportation. It saddens me to know that people never even herd the word "freerunning" and how much the internet is milking the word parkour.

Ryan Pfleger To me, freerunning is parkour with flips and things thrown in. Otherwise, it has the same uses (feelings of freedom, enjoyment, etc etc etc...) And parkour isn't really a means of transportation. It can be used as one, but few practitioners actually do parkour to get to work in the morning. There's no reason to be so upset over freerunning and parkour being tagged together. Sure, it sucks that most of society doesn't know what freerunning is, but who really cares about them?

Here in Ica we don't have any gyms like this. I'd love to practice Parkour more often but since no gyms have protective gear for gymnastics I feel scared to attempt anything other than simple Vaults and Wall climbs.

See plenty of Freerunning, but not much Parkour there!
That's because the Internet only wants to milk the word parkour for views
Both parkour and freerunning share the same origin of parkour.
There is now much heated online arguments as to whether Freerunning is a part of, or separate, from Parkour. While Freerunning did branch away, to exercise freedom of creativity, it still stems from the origin of Parkour.
Of course, these days, it raises the undying question if Freerunning should even be considered a part of the Parkour family, just as much as if Tricking should even be considered part of the Martial Arts family.
The arguments may never be settled, but its origins are quite clear.
sssentertainment I'm not sure I've heard the distinction from tricking and martial arts as those are separate entities... Tricking borrows from martial arts, gymnatics, capoeria, and breakdancing...Originally tricking was more based in TKD style kicks etc and now its more about corks etc. if that's what you are talking about.. But I doubt anyone ever considered sambo or judo or aikido tricking...

i want to learn parkour but im scared but i want to do it
+Carl Overbye Start out small, ive been doing it for like 1 year and 3 months now or something and its been amazing learning something new, i can now do moves that i thaught i could never be able to do, just look up videos no youtube on how to start,you just have to believe in yourself.like when i started i could barely do a frontflip off something if u watch my first ever parkour video you will see that i barely land it, since then ive progressed massively, you can see in my video called "Patryks Practice" you just do it with some friends and have fun :)
