I was born in 1948. My parents rented a summer bungalow in the Catskills. My mom and 2 brothers & sister as well as my uncle & his family also did the same at a different colony would drive us up on Route 17 at the beginning of the summer. My father would take the bus up on Friday & stay until Sunday when he went back to the city by bus as we didn't have a car, to work. It was just a great way to grow up & spend family time together. Years later one of my brothers, who was a musician formed a band which was hired as the "house band" in one of the lounges at the Raleigh Hotel. I also have some wonderful pictures as memories of my early childhood spending summers in the "country". And even after I got married we took a number of vacations at several of the big hotels as well, saw GREAT entertainers as well.

Thanks for sharing this, Jerry! I believe the Raleigh is one of the few old-time hotels that remain.

Thank You so much, Noah! I just Love this..I worked at the Maplecrest Resort near Hensonville in the mid-70s..BTW before I forget, it was just inside Greene Co. I'm a former baptist from w.fl and had never even heard of the "Jewish Alps"! But I fell in love with the resorts and the People.. I've found the remains of the resort Google maps and Google Earth.. like I said "remains" was kinda surprised anything was there.. anyway I subscribed cuz this was one of the Best parts of my entire life! Thank You for your Time Effort and the Love you have for your subject matter, Shalom, Noah!

Thanks so much. So glad you had the opportunity to experience the area before that era ended. Just so you know, subscribing won't likely get many other presentations like this one, but perhaps something else will be of interest.

This is an outstanding documentary that encapsulates the mystique and the grandeur of this area during those years. Thank you for all of the work to compile these images and the related stories.

I stayed at the Concord when I was 11 in 1963. I remember seeing Myron Cohen and Sam Levinson at the showroom. My mom told me that the adults left me with my sister and cousin and went to NYC to see Funny Girl. Good times!

I really love your descriptions of the photos. I lived in Monticello in the sixties, so I can remember all of these places. Thank you for this well researched piece.

I am not Jewish but I do have a passion for entertainment and this approach to photography. I love the then and now comparisons no matter what they are. She has done an incredible job documenting these very historic properties. The pool shots and that elevator shot were haunting. She also has a lovely speaking voice.

Great video, with lots of in-depth information. I have some relatives who were farmers on the Catskills. They sold their land to either Grossingers or the Concord. I very much want the Catskills to make a comeback.
