Let's deep dive into Culling Voices. Gear used: Revv G3 > Torpedo Live (ML Sound Labs IRs).
Apologies about my voice audio, the lavaliere mic battery died during filming.

The big reflective confetti made it downright magical. A high point of my 28th and 29th TOOL shows.

I was debating whether they’d play The Patient or Culling Voices, but they ended up playing BOTH at my concert.
It was on the 21st of January

I experienced culling voices live yesterday
I've always loved it, but you'll never get this great sound again that you experienced live
It left me speechless and I felt like in a trance

Man that 2/4 power chord based riff directly after the intro is sooooo powerful when it kicks in. Whenever I listen to the song and this kicks in, I'm like yesss this is Adam saying "here I am dudes and I've got something to say \m/"

You’re channel has be so influential for me. I’ve been playing guitar for about 5 months now and your tool videos have really motivated me to become a better player since day one almost, so thank you. Also, you should consider doing some mastodon videos in the future! Divinations and Quintessance are both great songs (so is blood and thunder). Anyways, thanks so much, keep the videos coming!

I've seen a few of your videos before, and one of the things I note about you is your rather infectious positive attitude and the manner in which you make these lessons so approachable. Subbed and joined your Patreon. Looking forward to learning a lot from you.
    Thanks!

correct me if I'm wrong, but is this the first time Jones has ever used that F# chord at the 4th fret??? I can't think of any other Tool track where that chord is used - sounds cool though.

  • @caseyjones7404

You hear something so simple and elegant on the album then realize, the only way I can come close is to dumb it down with maybe just the sing string, single finger.... play the proper rhythms, timing but not able to use more fingers. GREAT SONG. Feels incredibly Tool when it finally builds up.

It's funny, the song is about internal disharmony - and Jones uses disharmonic and dissonant notes. The sound of struggle.

Possibly my favorite Tool song ever. I ignored it for a while after the album came out, and within the last couple of months, I've decided that it may be one of my favorite songs I've ever heard. That's a lot going on in that song, and it's so tastefully understated that it just doesn't 'grab' attention. Beautiful song.

    • @axeofcreation
      @axeofcreation  4 года назад

Like I said in the pinned comment, my mic died during recording and I had to rely on the shotgun mic (which is picks up everything). And for brevity, I did not edit out all parts I was playing.

My only fear is that once I learn this song, I won't do anything else but sit around and play that intro all day long. I'll forget to eat. My kids will wonder where I went and why daddy doesn't talk tot hem anymore, and my wife will leave. But that'll be okay, because I'll have that intro.
