Seriously man thanks a lot for this. As soon as I finished the album I was all like "I HAVE to learn this track". I remembered going to your webpage for a bunch of other tutorials, and wondered if you were still active. And I find this video, where in just a month you're already familiarized with the track and different ways to play things/ relating parts and helping me to learn it the best way. Good to see you're still going and improving, literally felt like my uncle was teaching me a song all over again. So yeah, thanks axeofcreation all the way from Argentina for the dedication man!!
Once again, you deliver! Huge Tool fan and fairly new guitarist, but I've managed to learn a few songs, thanks to you. In addition, you inspired me to get a custom-built Kiesel, (CS3, single cut, in Silverbust of course). The guitar is outstanding!! Keep up the good work!
I play that second verse riff up the neck on the lower strings too. The bends and pulloffs give the riff this cool circular rhythm that feels really nice and fluid under your fingers. This way might be harder to play than the tabs going around right now, but it is the correct way.
Thanks a lot man! In this video I learnt the alternative ways to play the chorus riff and the little riff you show at around 02:46. I also used to play it on the A and D strings but playing it on the low D and A sounds a bit more closer to the real thing so thanks a bunch for clearing that out! This is the part of your lessons which I appreciate the most where most of the times you explain alternate ways to play a particular riff. I am very grateful! P.s. Can't wait for Pneuma! I love that song and the guitar parts are really interesting... [SPOILET ALERT] especially the riff that starts at around 9 minutes into the song which sound so similar to the outro riff of Schism with the dead note chugs and power chords. I hope you cover that song in your upcoming lessons too! Cheers man!
You have awsome vids man. You do a good job. I think you should play along with the whole of whatever it is when your done with the lesson. Just to show a little better
Great work! Adam Jones definitely reached another level of playing in this music. I think he overdubbed power chords with open position, besides an undisclosed number of amp heads and cabs. Cheers
Hey Greg - saw the Sunday night show in Cali and then Tuesday in Denver. Mind blowing. As you may have seen there are some bootleg videos on RUclips and Jones does play lower in the neck
He definitely played the chorus in the open position when saw them live. Starting with A on second fret, then hammer fill to a C shape and let it ring out. Then power chord on 3rd and 5th frets.
Seems like that first riff after the swells (nice to see it done on the low strings) has some slurs in there. Are we hearing Justin bounce around? It sounds like the second time he plays the pre chorus, he does it with the slurs first, and then moves to the sans pull off/simplified version you’ve probably seen. Also, what are your thoughts about that little pull off/hammer on bit at the end of the chorus being played on the d/a stings and ending on the c instead of the d?
Axe, how long did it take you, start to finish, to transcribe this song? I'm surprised you don't have more views already. We're probably all too busy listening to the new Tool album.
Greg, after watching Adam play the chorus live it seems like hes playing up on the Guitar, not as 5 -7, if ya get a chance check out the performance they played recently. i could be wrong, you know what your doing, i don't. lol
You guys shld check out camron winters. You will thank me.. he did 113 days of Tool.. does every song and nailed 7empest.. his style is not quite as detailed as this guy but he has tabs.. just check him out
The chorus is wrong. He plays on the second and third frets. Video confirms it. If you want the tone, turn up distortion and roll back the tone knob. No need to complicate near the 7-10 frets.
I remember reading a comment on the video saying that the guitar swells were actually a cello and he was so confident that it was a cello that he started calling people dumbasses that denied it lol. I was like, since when does adam play a cello? Lmao
I read somewhere that it does start off with a cello part played by Maynard's son. Then Adam's guitar gradually fades in, and they're all the same notes.
around 2:47 you talk about playing certain notes on the lowest strings instead of centered around the A string because of a certain timbre just not being achieved. not to be a bummer, but 3 months ago i fucking FINALLY saw tool live. 12 rows from the front on adams side. he plays it the way you said not to play it, centered around the A string instead of the 10-7 thing you're talking about. just throwing that out there, and i don't mean to sound like a dick in saying so. just wanna say that show changed my life
02:46 Please, please, please start listening to the songs before you teach them. I think this is the most noticeable one you've done, and it's bad. These people aspire themselves to be Adam Jones, and they want to play these songs like they were written. Teach it right please.
Andrew Coble I’m sure society also appreciates someone such as yourself who is feeding into someone such as me, who is literally pointing out someone’s mistake. Never did I say I was better than the creator of this video. You suggested I do better because you want to defend @axeofcreation which I simply debunked with a reasonable response. I’m very glad you’re bringing attention to this comment, however that is not what I want. I want content creators such as @axeofcreation to do what they do best, but do it as their audience would want, impeccably. I also appreciate your concern over this matter. You’re bringing up society, using it to your advantage to try to prove a point against me. Society is driven by media, and you attempting to argue with me on RUclips is a prime example of what is wrong with society and Social Media as a whole. I stated my opinion and for some reason that caused a trigger for you to defend someone who literally does not need it. Finally, I am glad that I wrote this drawn out message to waste your time. Someone who studies philosophy and psychology will always win in an argument against someone who has a dying urge to instigate issues. I apologize that I called someone out for teaching a popular piece of music SLIGHTLY incorrect, but I’m not going to take any interest in what anyone has to say against it. @axeofcreation has a great channel, and I may be labeled as a ‘hater’ for calling out mistakes. However, he wants to help people. That doesn’t mean he is immune to criticism. Welcome to the internet.
you’re like the only person i can find posting tool lessons thank you 😩🤘🏽
Check out Cameron Winters on here

Dude, you really helped me learn not only this song, but some great new techniques for a new guitarist. Thank you!
Great work as always man. PLEASE do Pneuma next! Such a sick song. I'm usually ok figuring out Tool stuff but that song is giving me a run.

One of the best tutorials I’ve ever watched. I’m a new subscriber 👌🏻🤘🏼
Another great lesson to start on. Can't believe I've progressed enough to want to tackle this!
Hell yeah! Couldn't wait for this one thanx!!! Axe

Thanks for the vid I'll give it a try tomorrow

This song is a masterpiece
Great work! Adam Jones definitely reached another level of playing in this music. I think he overdubbed power chords with open position, besides an undisclosed number of amp heads and cabs. Cheers
You are simple the best doing tool songs buddy
I am glad YOU could jump to it. Thankyou
Much appreciated man.
Awesome thank you
Thank you for this

Descending next please? I’ve been trying to learn the solo for it since the live version came out
Solid.

I don't own a Kiesel/Carvin but want one. This video makes me want one even more.
YES 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
sick
Sounds good! What's your signal chain on this one?
Love your work friend. I wish Jones gave some more in depth playing. It's like he enjoys drinking flouride while counting.
Great stuff, when are the tabs coming?
Adam does indeed play the second part in the open position.
Confirmed Periphery fan :D

So niccceeee
Could you do a tutorial on Timecop 1983-tonight. Please.
periphery shirt 🤘
Hey... So the new album is out, how do you like it?
5:30 I hear it like that as well
Great beard
What effect pedal or sounds are you using?

"Greg" is incorrect about a lot of these tutorials.
What kind of guitar is that the inlays are sickk
You guys shld check out camron winters. You will thank me.. he did 113 days of Tool.. does every song and nailed 7empest.. his style is not quite as detailed as this guy but he has tabs.. just check him out

Does that guitar have lithiums?
27k views and 939 like. i mean like guys can we support?
Great lesson, but please, tune that low D, it bugged me throughout the whole video. It was just slightly off, u can mostly hear it on the power chords
Chocolate Chip Trip next please!
I don't think there's much guitar in it.
I remember reading a comment on the video saying that the guitar swells were actually a cello and he was so confident that it was a cello that he started calling people dumbasses that denied it lol. I was like, since when does adam play a cello? Lmao

Leland Vandermeulen nope. Its just adam with the volume knob.
medium.com/@erehsimublaweneht/tools-fear-inoculum-review-e83e10757ec4
Leland Vandermeulen so the real question is maynards son gonna perform on stage with a cello everytime they play fear lol

This is going to take a WHILE. Very complicated guitar riffs.
The endings dead wrong for sure.

Holy mackerel really? Do better Crusifixus.
Andrew Coble Hmm. If only I had access for recording software and a good quality camera made from RUclips money.
@@CalebCard7 Should society at large start a charity for you to show how much better you are than this guy?
Andrew Coble I’m sure society also appreciates someone such as yourself who is feeding into someone such as me, who is literally pointing out someone’s mistake. What pedal are you using for this?
