I am a Chinchónete Vallecano Expat Brit and have lived in Chinchón for a long time. Pre and post Covid (I hope), there are loads of things to see: music in the summer evenings, live theatre representing people associated with the Pueblo. Did you notice the cross in the wall going up to the church from the square? It represents a vecino who was killed in the rebellion against the French. Also, in Easter we have the famous pasión de chinchón where the vecinos reenact scenes from the passion (the last supper and crucifixion are in the square). There is also a brilliant pasión in Morata de Tajuña nearby. As for wine, I can heartily recommend the Pueblo Colmenar de Oreja (Colmenar of the ear: brilliant name) just 4km from Chinchon which has a nice wine festival most years in times of vendimia (and also does a brilliant representation of the levantamiento contra los franceses)I. I first went to the wine festival nearly 20 years ago and the wine was un drinkable. Nowadays there is some fabulous wine. The vinos de Madrid have improved loads. Finally for those who are into the history of the civil war, there is a really interesting museum in Morata and on route to Chinchon from Madrid at the turn off to Morata, you might see some crosses and a great big fist. These are memorials to the international brigades. And some of the Republicans who died. One of the big battles was fought near here. You might even be able to make out some of the trenches on the hillside. You can see the famous Suicide Hill and the main memorial to the international brigade (made of bits of metal they find on the battlefield) a couple of kilometers up the road to San Martín.
I love chinchón! Very good video and we have been watching your videos for a wail, me being from Spain and my husband American we really enjoy them. Have you considered making one in Alcala de Henares? Since it’s the home of Cervantes and has so much history. And not forget one of the best places for free tapas with drinks in Spain !
You guys are one reason I still haven't given up on my dreams to live in Spain. Your videos are full of love and genuine interest on the culture and the country. Happy that you have one more addition to your lovely life. Salud guys ❤️
I didn't take my eyes off the screen during the entire video. I was enthralled by everything. As usual, the historical information was super interesting to me. And that local beautiful red wine was beckoning me to visit. That glass of anise was quite full. You must give off some type of vibe that makes people pour a lot of alcohol in a glass for you. In the last video, you had an obscene amount of gin with some tonic. I loved the room you stayed, along with that magnificent tub. Perfect for truly soaking the entire body. I have no words for that cocido. You could survive a week just from eating that meal.
Great beginning of my Saturday watching this enjoyable video. I definitely learned a new saying from Yoly about the tomato sauce...."so it doesn't repeat on you"! I love that!!! And James is sporting his new t-shirt! Thanks for another beautiful escape in Spain 🤍
Chinchón played a major role in 1956's "Around the World in 80 Days", in which Mexican actor Cantinflas, in the role of Passepartout, enters the bull ring of Chinchón. The scene is sensational in that the plaza and balconies have been crammed (absolutely crammed!) with extras (10,000 or so!) in traditional attire. Prior to the bullfight is a festival scene that introduces the square in all it's festive glory. Dons, Doñas, matadors, horses, carriages, just old time Hollywood spectacle! I only wish the color were better quality.
Such a beautiful place to expose us to. Definitely on our list for our next trip. As always you both bring such warmth and joy to each new adventure. Thank you again.
For me, Chinchón seems to be one of the more interesting places of Spain you've made a video about sor far, I hope to see it with my very eyes one day. Also, congratulations on your little girl, guys! :)
Congratulations James and Yoli. I'm very pleased for you, that's wonderful news. My wife and I went to Chinchon a while back whilst staying in Madrid. There is no train station at Chinchon so if you want to visit without a car you need to take the number 337 bus which is located outside the Conde de Casal metro station in Madrid. It's not too much of a hassle and you can pay for the ticket on the bus. There's probably only one or two journeys each way daily. We had a drink and a walk around the Parador before exploring further. A meal in the plaza is obligatory on a first visit. I just had a bowl of home made sopa de ajo before watching this vid. I remember a great panaderia run by a highly extroverted lady. One of the reasons I tell people to visit Madrid is the ease with which they can visit great places like Chinchon which orbit the city.
This was the Don Quixote of RUclips videos - complete in every way: tradition, modernity, history, emotion, curiosity, comedy, longing for the past and looking forward to the future. And most importantly, Felicidades! :)
Hi James and Yoly:) Thanks a lot for the absolutely beautiful video! I couldn't imagine that there are so many nice and cozy places around Madrid and I've very grateful for revealing them to us!
I am a history buff and a geek about visiting off-the-beaten track villages and castle ruins, but I have to admit that I had never heard of Chinchón. I have been down the Madrid-Albacete highway so many times to get to Murcia and the beach and I kick myself for not having seen such an interesting place in my travel books and ventured off the motorway to spend an hour or two visiting. But then, I´m sure if I had dared to do so, I would have heard a chorus of boos from grandchildren eager to get to those warm Mediterranean waters. They still remember how I deprived them of precious beach time when I detoured to see Isabela la Católica's birthplace in Madrigal de las Altas Torres, Ávila Province.
It's great you were there when it wasn't so crowded, especially during a pandemic. I love the wines of Spain and Portugal. I like it when James mentions the region and the name of the wine. Thank you.
To hear yours and Yoly’s news is the best news I’ve heard this year my fiancé and I have watched you for years and we are both delighted to hear your amazing news congratulations mummy and daddy to be. Xx
Hello guys - thanks for another great video and for sharing the news about the baby. I am really happy for you and look forward to following your new journey!
Omg, I Just noticed in the back at 3:56 thats the couple who do the "Notes In Spanish" podcast who've help me learn Spanish! Small world. Big congratulations, fantastic news about the pregnancy! Love these videos guys, great to watch whilst I can't travel to Spain. Hopefully won't be too long until I get there again! :)
Wow! My wife and I saw B&M in the background when first watched this video and sprayed our coffee all over each other. Because it didn’t seem like you pre-planned to meet up. That is a hell of a coincidence! Keep up the good work James and Yoli! We lived in Madrid for several years and your videos are a time-machine for us. You also have given us some great ideas for future trips. Including a Devour tour if that’s possible one day. Saludos desde los EEUU.
I have returned to your wonderful video! I had been too busy upon the last weeks. What a lift you both bring into our lives with pleasure to enthusiastically share your travels through beautiful Spain's endless history. How your personal treasures shared so generously sets a wonder of sights into a Spain undiscovered to many of us! What a beautiful landscape of Chinchon's layered history with the interesting depths of cuisines, ancient wine cellars, gardens, castle, Goya art, your Mondarin t-shit, and that restored cloisters setting to your room. Your happy news shared is what certainly adds to Spain's value to familia & amigos. Ha, many of us women know well when alcohol is eliminated announces the best of the newest treasures. All best wishes & blessings to you as you come into being parents which appears 6 months...thank you with your continued excellence of travels of fascinating Spain. Though I always struggle with ear to languages, the heart speaks through well to us all! Congratulations! 💜🙏
Watching an episode of Spain Revealed on the weekends is the most relaxing thing i can think of ! These two have the ability to transport me to spain ! Cant wait to see the family adventures when the baby comes ! Thank you guys !
Felicidades. Me da muchísimo gusto que estén esperando. I am truly so happy for you both. I have been watching you from Los Ángeles, CA USA for a long time. Thank you for sharing this. Felicidades otra vez y saludos desde 🇺🇸.
You are awesome. Congrats again for the baby girl. Madrid was not on our agenda until we discovered your channel. Now we have to add day trips to one of our next trip!
I loved visiting Chincon while I was working there in 1994 and again while visiting in 97. I have pictures of sitting inside the Parador. There was a lovely little pottery shop that was very charming. I love it there. God willing, I will return there some day. Thanks for doing this video. It brought back some very found memories.
Congratulations on your baby girl! The Spain Revealed videos are about to go up a notch, discovering what its like to be parents in spain, schools, parks etc- I know Valencia is a great place to raise children, I lived there for a year and it is incredibly kid friendly (not that I have any children but friends in Valencia do), once again congratulations! Chin Chin Chinchon Ciao!
Congratulations guys my family and I are so happy to hear the beautiful news that Yolli is pregnant. Amazing video with amazing news and beautiful place and food and wine Sending big hugs and big thumbs up From Perth Australia the Schofield’s
We are watching this video for the 10th time but this time we are in a room at the Parador de Chinchon! Yesterday we were at the Parador de Cuenca and today Chinchon! These Parador hotels are amazing, thank you SO much for recommending them. We will be staying at more of them in the coming years. Next stop Madrid and a Devour tour!!!!
We stayed in that very parador one summer. When we alight in Madrid airport and are not staying in the city but doing a road trip, we look for the nearest parador to stay over night. So we were here one year. Twice, we’ve stayed in La Granja de San Ildefonso when heading north: gorgeous place. Once on our way out, Alacalà de Henares. It’s a short drive to the airport and the parador is magnifico. As I’ve said before, whenever we can, we stay in paradors. If you buy the five-day pass, rooms for two with copious breakfast are 120€/night! Check the website for all the specials.
I have had many sol y sombras during my days in Spain, but never over ice. In my evenings in Chipiona, I have searched for the lighthouse to find my way home post-sol y sombras. A well done video about one of my favorite bebidos.
Congratulations!! I was about to ask in the last video, but thought that it was best for you to do the official announcement:-). And needless to say, another great video. Can’t wait to be back in Spain.
Excellent tour of the history and gastronomy of Chinchon. The other great medieval nucleus of Madrid is Alcala de Henares, with the longest street of arcades (soportales) in Spain, where Jews had their shops installed in medieval times, and where there are also Roman and Arab remains, and an important Renaissance and Baroque architecture fruit of their famous university. Ah! And there's also a Parador!
I am so thrilled that Yolly is preggers! You are both going to be such wonderful parents. I wish you so much joy. Great video. Chinchon is now definitely on my post covid list.
Hey guys, I love your channel so much. Spain is the vacation country of my childhood and I have so many great memories. Next week I will come back to Barcelona for the first time in years and I have been binge-watching your videos in the last two weeks. You guys have by far the best channel on Spanish culture and tips for tourists who want to enjoy the country. I wish Yoli and you all the best. Im very happy for you to have a sweet little daughter soon. I am 100% sure you will be such great and loving parents!
Congratulations Yoly and James. Yoly is glowing, a baby girl . . . wow. That is so great. So happy for the both of you. And it was funny she is using the word "reckon" - I thought that was awesome. James, your English has rubbed off on her. What a great video and amazing place. Once again, congrats to both of you. Be well and hope things turn better for Spain and the lovely people there as summer approaches. Greetings from Scottsdale, Arizona (USA)
Fantastic news you two. I'm a chef and watch all you RUclips videos. Hope things get back to normal and your business grows after the year everyone has had. Good luck for the future. 👍
Who's been to Chinchón? How was your experience! Yoly and I loved being there :)
We have!
Used to buy our garlic there when we lived in Madrid, and have a sopa de ajo.
not yet sadly
A few times. You need to watch some of the bars in the Plaza Mayor if you look like a guiri unfortunately.

My Family owned a Castle for a few hours, or until the ocean beach waves reclaimed it.

Spain is so beautiful. Can’t wait to get back there once everything settles down. Congrats.
👶Congratulations!! 🥳 In addition, the Paradores videos are my favorite, I always have to watch them twice, one time right after the other 😊 Thank you!
For me, Chinchón seems to be one of the more interesting places of Spain you've made a video about sor far, I hope to see it with my very eyes one day.

Nice camiseta at the start of video James. 😁
Chinchón is now on our list (ever growing) for next visit.
Thanks once again.
Thank you Robert!
10 minutes in the video I ask my wife "wanna have a glass of wine?" And she replies "yes, and olives".
I knew she was pregnant. It was the first thing I thought when I watched your last couple of videos. Congratulations to you both.
My GF said to me a few weeks ago "heh... I bet she's pregnant, and it's a girl!"🤣🤣🤣 I guess women know things that men don't!
I was thinking that too, but I thought maybe she has just put on a bit of weight 😂

Excellent tour of the history and gastronomy of Chinchon.
