- GOATS of WCW | Greatest Superstars
There was a period of time when World Championship Wrestling was the biggest and most popular wrestling company in the entire world. And even prior to that, when it was being overshadowed by the behemoth which was WWF, it was still considered the very best place by many who wanted to see a different style of pro wrestling than that which was being offered up in the fed. Of course, part of the reason it was so highly regarded over the years though was because of the excellent roster it had. But who were the best WCW wrestlers of all time? Well, that’s exactly what we’re going to be looking at today.

WCW/WWE Cruiserweight Division: Where Are They Now?
Not you guys replacing Goldberg on the title picture and reposting it 🤣💀
Did you guys really have to say "name redacted" for Chris Benoit? I get that he went out poorly in life, but man, separate his work from the tragedy, especially considering there is such a heavy chance that the tragedy was at least partly due to the incredible efforts he put inside the ring for our entertainment, taking some wild bumps and head trauma in the process. Its not as if he needs to be celebrated as a great humanitarian, but not even saying his name.... Also the more people do that, the more it feels like people shy away from the role that wrestling may have played in the head trauma and the possible impact that had on the nightmare event. It feels cold, dishonest, and just not something the channel about wrestling should do.
What about Kidman
Rey Mysterio should have an honorable mention. From cruiserweight prodigy, to unmasked West Coast swag, and all the way up to giant killer.
Fr and it’s Rey Mysterio Jr. Lol
Facts
i get you, but he didn't have his best run until he got to wwe
Rey was with WCW until the very end too, even wrestling twice on the final Nitro.
@@DatrayKingofDudes no way Rey was much better in WCW
Sting and Flair for sure. But I think the Cruiserweights were what kept me watching back then.
Rey nyseterio and Eddie for sure
Facts, Rey, Juventud, Eddie,Dean,Kidman,Jericho, Ultimo etc
Facts
Also I would love to see two future videos, that being the Goats of TNA/Impact, and Goats of ROH.
TNA wrestlers definitely deserve more love.
@@zemox2534 I couldn't agree more. That is where women's wrestling was actually shown immense respect in North American wrestling. The great Tag Team division was budgening while WWE basically didn't have a divivsion or didn't care about it. And yes I know early TNA had Jeff Jarret clogging up the main event, there was so much else going on that you didn't have to focus on that.
A future me, just watched some other mid-card performers in WCW, and I think another person who should be given more love is Kanyon. Good god, half of the stuff that he was doing in the 90s, pretty much every modern indie born wrestler now do. Yeah, the Blood Runs Cold story may have arrived to late to the party, but do it nowadays in a promotion like Lucha Underground, MLW, it would be the shit with Mortal Kombat being on the the best fighting game series. Who's Better Than Kanyon?
Sting is the greatest asset WCW ever had. What the Undertaker is for WWF/E, Sting was for WCW.
Facts
💯
Flair, Sting, DDP, Booker T these I could definitely see on Mount Rushmore for WCW.
With the Steiner brothers holding the tag crown.
Yeah no impact more then hogan and Goldberg clearly in that group
Talent wise, Scott Hall by far!!!! Rip 🙏 Razor
Sting is greatest to ever come from wcw he was there from beginning to end
I Agree With You Hey Arnold
One of the greatest in the history of the whole industry too.
@@WallKenshiro absolutely
Booker T is the GOAT
Eh, Flair is my pick but Sting is right up there. Flair was the goat of NWA and was on top when WCW started. Plus, he helped Sting reach that next level.
WCW was at its absolute best when “you know who I am, but you don’t know why I’m here”
Sting and flair for sure
Stingg the g o a t of wcw....
Hogan, nash is periodic but sting is permanent...
AMEN.
Facts
Flair, Sting, DDP, Goldberg, Booker T, Rey, Eddie, Giant, Steiners (+Scotty as a solo act), etc. WCW always had the best roster, perfect mix of legends and young stars who would go on to be legends of the future.
Lex Luger was buffed up MacGyver with the haircut he had in the WWF.
DDP did a lot to help behind the scenes as well.. he had a LOT to do with bringing in Scott Hall and Kevin Nash, i do believe they DDP and both Hall and Nash have stated that he both recommended them to the company, and also started talking to them (Hall and Nash) first to get them in.. for that and his on screen work, i'd say actually DDP is overall the GOAT of WCW..
if you just consider what we actually saw on tv, i'd say Sting is the GOAT.
True, and he and Scott Hall were great friends growing up in the business, and in the old N.W.A., Dallas helped Scott invent the best finishing move ever, the Razors Edge!!!! Rip 🙏 Razor
I’ve always seen Ric Flair as more NWA/JCP and Sting as WCW if that makes sense, as far as the company being WCW I’d say Sting was THE main man over its entirety
WCW and JCP are the same thing. It's just how TNA and Impact Wrestling are the same thing, even though it's back to being TNA now.
35 seconds in... RIP to the Benoit family
It was such a shame when Scott Steiner lost his ability to wrestle and was just muscles. Don't get me wrong, I was entertained as can be, however, his in-ring work before that was just incredible and often doesn't get enough mention.
Many of the best that WCW had to offer though were the small guys that were left out of this list. Sure you had some huge guys, both physically and in terms of big names, and they dominated the main title scene but it was the little guys that were going out there and producing absolute bangers that were usually well and above what the main guys were capable of achieving. You had Rey Mysterio Jr. , Chris Benoit, Dean Malenko, Eddie Guerrero, and many others I know I am forgetting that were doing all kinds of stuff that just wasn't seen in the main title cards.
And not "name redacted". Chris Benoit, the Canadian Crippler, one of the greatest to ever lace up a pair of boots and enter the ring. Yes, on the personal side, it ended in tragedy, likely an outcome of years of taking terrible bumps, specifically head trauma, which was in part in an effort to entertain us, and we were. We couldn't get enough at the time, which is why he was so highly regarded. It feels like a disservice to just pretend he didn't exist. It cuts out the good he did for the sport and to entertain fans, and it cuts out the role that wrestling has such as head trauma, and the impacts that can have down the road. We like to be entertained by our wrestlers, our football players, etc. but the moment the outcomes aren't ideal, we wipe our hands of any role we may have played.
Bro, this video is not titled “Best in-ring technicians”
@@theshape3431 you say that as if you are making a point or contributing in some way.
But you are correct, it is called the GOAT's of WCW, and then I mentioned some of the greatest that the WCW had to offer when I was watching.
Is there an assumption that I am bashing the list or something? I am just mentioning some of the names that weren't mentioned that I think at least arguably could qualify as a WCW GOAT. I mentioned Scott Steiner not being recognized more for his earlier work, but that wasn't a dig at the video for including his muscular beast form.
"name redacted" was the only dig I had. I feel as though if you're not comfortable with so much as acknowledging his name, then why even include clips or mention matches related to him, when there is a slew of stuff to reference without him, or, simple enough, just use his name. Its not like Candyman, saying his name won't bring him back.
Also, Chris Benoit didn’t kill his wife and kid. He and his family was unalived by very evil people and it was made to look like Chris did it
Quick question, why isn't some of the Cruiserweight champions on this list? Rey Misterio Jr, Chris Jericho, Billy Kidman, Ultimate Dragon (Ultimo Dragon) anybody?
I was about to ask the same.
@@ScoobySnacks7 The only matches from WCW that I would actively encourage people to go watch are the matches that included these performers.
@@lewismaclean8849 For real. People came for the NWO and the big stars, but they stayed for the cruiserweights.
Most fans just jump them in all together and call them the cruiserweight or midcarders. Definitely talented individuals though
Dean Mclleako
Bro Sting cannot be compared to anyone else mentioned in this video. He was unarguably the face of the company both in his surfer gimmick and crow gimmick ❤️❤️
Macho Man Randy Savage and Bret Hart may have some titles in WCW but their careers was more memorable and better in the WWF.
Like or not Chris Benoit deserves to be mentioned here, I always considered him to be the Bret Hart of WCW in the late 90’s because of his technical ability and making wrestling seem “real” more than other wrestlers, he was a personal favorite of mine and I was happy that the company let him become world champion b4 he left for WWE
Rey Mysterio and Paul Wright are definitely the G O A T’s of WCW as well
Goldberg is a goat whether people want to admit it or not 😂
People love to hate just to follow the crowd, but he paid his dues. He wasn’t just a nobody that the boss liked and decided to shoot up the ranks
Goldberg also drew more cash from 97-99 than Sting or Flair did their entire WCW runs. This isn't opinion, it's reserchable fact.
@@oldschoolprowrestling2653 He was reckless at times in the ring and it’s very unfortunate what happened to Bret Hart, but Bill is a goat. He was a powerhouse in both WCW and WWE.
Sting, Flair and Hogan are easily the goats of WCW
Goldberg during his prime outdrew every single one of them
Sting
Hogan
Ric flair
Goldberg
Booker t
Kevin Nash
Ddp
Vader
DDP is so un talked about but was really one of them guys
Benoit and DDP used to have some matches that were crazy.
Add Rey, Kidman and the cruisers. What a time
STING is the GOAT
So many people here in denial with Goldberg 😂 Dude was electric and was a draw. Y’all go back and watch WWF 01-02 when fans were chanting his name wanting him there. We all knew he couldn’t wrestle, but he’d beat the 💩 out of people and it was entertaining af
Facts
Sting is the GOAT of WCW. He was the permanent Ace of the Company.
Bret Hart Sting Hulk Hogan Ric flair😮 yeah
GOATS of ECW| Greatest Extremists Please.
The Cruiserweights were the true heroes of WCW
Dusty and Steamboat
Steiner as world champion made WCW 2001 watchable easily one of the best achievements of any wrestler ever
Imagine WCW still exists.
Watching as a kid, it amazed me how many times Luger flip-flopped between face and heel. He played both parts so well. Being in the Horsemen with Flair (a guy he fought for the world title anyway) was a great boost for him.
I lost it after hearing Scott Shakespeare steiner 😂😂😂😂
Bill first lost was at Starrcade 98, not 99
Ooooq, we wait fo ECW
No, and Booker T called Hulk Hogan a n….?
Sting Is The Goat Of WCW
Sting... Flair.... Luger.... man that was the WCW and my childhood. 3 GOATS
Happy to see the inclusion of Scott Steiner in the list, since he deserves to be.. what a talent, both in the ring and on the mic ..
I 141 2/3 agree with you
Must be that highly educated university he came from lol.
The 4 Horsemen built the house, Luger and Sting carried the house, Goldberg, Steamboat, Booker, Steiners, the Giant and LOD, were pillars of the House.
Great video. Just one suggestion - the audio volume is too low. Can hear it by turning my volume waaay up.
Some honorable mentions:
1. Arn Anderson
2. Ravishing Rick Rude
3. Ricky Steamboat
4. Scott Hall
5. Stunning Steve Austin
Tag team wise: Steiner Brothers, Harlem Heat, and the Outsiders
Agreed, Scott Hall if not for personal demons, was the best damn ever!!! Mic 🎤 skills, physical ability, and everyone says he was the safest to work with!!! Rip 🙏 Razor
God i miss old school wrestling
Randy Savage and Sid Vicious should of made this list
"If Eric Bischoff had any idea what he was doing at this point".
He beat wwf for 83 weeks straight. He knew exactly what he was doing.
Russo was the clueless one
Hulk, flair, Goldberg, Nash, sting , big Pappa pump and ddp
Sting and Flair made WCW from start to end
Brian Pillman. As both Flyin Brian and his rogue Horseman character. He was really good in the ring and was routinely doing moves that weren't seen all that much back then.
If people say WCW's biggest stars weren't home-grown because of Jim Crockett promotions, how can guys like Steve Austin, HHH, Chris Jericho or Benoit be considered home-grown for WWF during the Attitude Era?
They became much bigger in WWE, but they were already very well known. If Lex Luger, Sting, the Steiners and Flair aren't WCW guys because they started in Jim Crockett (which was just WCW before Turner bought it), then certainly guys who started & won titles in WCW weren't WWE guys either.
Excellent review video wcw was one of the best
DDP is proof that age is just a number, nothing but respect.
Perfect video 🔥🔥
In my opinion, Sting and Flair are the GOATs of WCW but how can y'all not include Ravishing Rick Rude in this....dude was everything wrestling needed
I'll never forget how hot the show was from 95 to 98.
Mt. Rushmore of WCW: Flair, Sting, Goldberg & Booker T.
Hogan?
I loved surfer sting being a sucker for the neon 80s style
Its taken me this long that he(booker) says 5time.5times!
1, Firebreaker Chip
Hogan didn't have longevity he had backstage politics.
Well I guess next u due the goats of ecw
No Ron Simmons ?
For me, the GOATs of WCW were Sting, Rey Mysterio, DDP, Eddie Guerrero, Sid Vicious, The Steiner Brothers, Lord Steven Regal, Ron Simmons and Ricky The Dragon Steamboat.
Sting and Flair were the GOATS. No one carried the company like those 2. Goldberg was a fad (although I rooted for him). DDP is a close 2nd to Sting and Flair
Sting WCW Primo Victoria
STING IS THE GOAT
You're out of your mind
WCW forever (the good times 😂)
11:39
He has black hair here .
What event is that . WCW .
Looks like Spring Stampede 97
Continue this GOAT series with ECW, TNA, AEW, NXT, ROH and NJPW
The steiners and Road Warriors are the greatest WCW tag teams.
Can you do a “WCW Cruiserweights: Ranked” video???
I'll just add the Road Warriors.
Correction~ Goldberg's 1st lost was Starrcade 98 not 99.
Not you guys replacing Goldberg on the title picture and reposting it 🤣💀
5:12 it was Starrcade 1998. Great video still though.
WCW would have went down the toilet if it wasn't for Scott Hall walking through the crowd and starting the biggest and best angle in wrestling ever!!! Rip 🙏 Razor
All WCW nitro era guys.
I gagged during the Goldberg segment 😂😂..
Talent wise!!! Rip 🙏 Razor!!! Scott Hall was by far the best!!!
For me it's luger sting flair and Nash wce forever
The whole CruiserWeight Division should be on this list. Eddie Rey Jericho ETC…
Sting, DDP, Ravens Flock & Vampiro were what kept me with WCW to the very end. The latter are far from the best ever but I enjoyed them the most.
But, that is why it was the end!!! Scott Hall and Nash coming over, changed wrestling forever!!!! Rip 🙏 Razor
Rey mysterio jr was the goat of the crusierweights
For me its Flair at one and Sting at two. If were adding NWA, maybe Flair and Dusty but Dusty was about done when WCW actually started. Hence, i go Sting as he became so synonymous with WCW.
Nwo is the goats of wcw 🖤🤍🖤
Damn remember flipping bk & forth on Monday nights what a time NWO, Dx wrestling could never now compete it was crazy Stone Cold The Rock Undertaker Bret Hart then Goldberg DDP Sting Booker T
I have to say...let's not forget how much of a champ player Jeff Jarrett was. Laying down for Hogan, then doing the job for Booker T in one of the best matches in WCW history in the same night. He's a GOAT, as well.
Mount Rushmore of WCW
Sting / Ric Flair / Hollywood Hogan / Goldberg
Sting. Big Poppa Pump. Booker T. Rey Mysterio JR. Top 4.
Goldberg had great matches with Perry Saturn
Van Hammer being left off this list is criminal
And Jimmy Garvin.
Top 5
1- Sting
2- Ric Flair
3- DDP
4- Goldberg
5- Hogan
Scott Hall the best!!!!! Fact
Name redacted aka Chris Benoit
1-Flair. 2-Sting
Don't forget the American dream Dusty Rhodes 3 times world champion,US champion, National champion 3tmes world TV champion, world tag team champion, world six man champion, 3tmes buck house stamped champion don't forget the real Goat of the NWA, WCW
Hot take but Jeff Jarrett kept me coming back from 99 and on. His heel run in that company was brilliant imo
By far, Sting was the GOAT of WCW. Flair would have been my choice but he did leave in the early 90's after not wanting to cut his hair and change his gimmick. I don't blame him one bit. I wonder if Sting was asked rather than Flair, if he would have gone along with the Booker's. I think he would have done anything asked of him. Goldberg, hurt too many wrestlers. He is not a wrestler. He's a brute that doesn't know how to work without hurting anyone.
