What's up my mates. Hope everyone is doing well.
I know it's been a while since I've uploaded, but I promise I'm not going anywhere, and that I'm here to stay. I appreciate your support and kind comments so much, and I'm excited to start regularly start putting out content again.
Today we'll be talking about an emo band from Chicago called Hospital Bracelet. This is honestly one of the saddest episodes I've ever had to make. I really thought this band was gonna do it big.

Hospital bracelet IS and always will be Eric. Those other two just made a pretty decent album with them. But literally everything that came before they joined is a hundred times better. People are acting like Eric is Hitler for fuck sake this is absolutely ridiculous and it takes away from when a band member really DOES do something horrible like sexually assault someone

My band Trash Bin Stench opened for Hospital Bracelet in late 2019, in Fredericksburg VA - they seemed like a really chill group, but I had no idea that these things went on behind the scenes. What a bizarre chain of events, but it was cool to experience the band while they existed.

Yeah maybe it was a little mean to ghost somebody, but people are here talking like Eric raped a bunch of puppies. Jesus Christ there's real people in the world doing real horrible things and people have an absolutely nothing better to do than talk about this nothing of a story? I thought the two girls were very talented musicians, and overall South loop summer isn't horrible, but the real recorded version of Sober JK wax any form of emotion which is what made it such a brilliant song to begin with, and it's way over produced. Eric's previous album and EP and singles are all amazing works of art. Hopefully they keep playing music because a lot of people need it
I'm out of touch and dont keep up with Twitter or any form of social media presence from bands so it's videos like these that i appreciate to document the band behind the music I like on my spotify. Its unfortunate how quickly the success of HB went downhill and for good reason. As an engineer I would not do business with an artist who doesn't pay right away. Don't send them the mix until they pay you

Hi nate, if you've done any research on this you would know who we are and why we might have a bone to pick with this video but I would like to start w/ telling everyone to listen to Oux, which is Manae's pop band she formed with her partner Indigo (they/them)! Arya also plays bass for them live. I recommend their EP Honeymood, it's incredibly atmospheric and scratches an itch that nothing else has for me yet. I recommend just closing this tab, reading manae's statement on eric and supporting her and Oux instead. This video absolutely leaps over all of the horrible manipulative nuances of what happened and boils it all down to 'poor amazing captivating prodigal diy emo musician cancelled by twitter bandmate' and spends more time covering eric's wrestling hobby and bemoaning diy twitter cancel culture than talking about the swathes of people eric hurt. if this is about hospital bracelet, and not eric, then why not also recite manae and arya's interviews from the same chicago reader article you lifted eric's bio (narrative flow and all) from, and why not talk about their musical projects? Careless research makes for a weak essay and reveals you don't do this to educate, you do it for views & with very little care for the people involved in what you cover. The one good part of this video is where you tell us to go and read manae's twitter thread, because closing this tab and reading the thread and its replies ends up being more informative than this 13 minute long (gotta get that sweet sweet algorithm boost) biopic on Eric and The Other Two People In Their Band. It's clear that you never ran this video past them - not only is this lazy journalism, it's disrespectful. If you wanna make a video to keep people informed, that's great - but this is a tactless, clumsy attempt at a video essay that takes a big fat dump on everyone eric hurt.

I'm so sad about what has become of hospital bracelet. I've only discovered them like a month ago because i got summer friends recommended on spotify and the very same day i made my research about them and heard about all this and it made me really sad. i really love their songs from the lyrics over vocals to the instruments and how everything is put together (and i still keep on listening to their songs though) but it's just so unfair how eric treated their bandmates. a band is supposed to be like a self-made family in which you treat everyone with respect and just generally in a good way, but only including your bandmates for a small part, then basically saying 'i don't need you anymore' and not even paying them (properly) is wrong if you do get money from what you do together.
A local college radio station was playing a song of theirs, I kinda liked it so decided to look them up, and this is the first video that popped up lol
Dawg if you absolutely HAD to do this video you have to do more than gloss over the bare minimum. You painted them as basically just not paying people and showing band mates enough respect lmao there’s so much more manipulative and abusive behavior that you didn’t even address. You picked the most surface level controversy around them and basically promoted HB at the end of the day.

I loved this band. They came up one day when I wanted new music to listen to. I feel in love instantly and kept playing the bands songs on repeat. South Loop Summer dropped and I feel in love even more and more. I then saw the news about them and my music heart shattered. i cant believe this happened

I found their single some time ago before they released their full album, and i was stoked to see what was in store. Didn't really keep up to date with them and found they finally released a full album, i was stoked. And like you do when you find a new band, you look more into them; that's when i found all this out. It was a high high and a low low 10mins
if you’re looking at the comments before watching this video, just don’t watch it. manae’s twitter thread goes in depth on this situation and honestly, eric did other shit that was equally horrible and doesn’t even get mentioned in this video. listen to the people eric hurt and support their music instead of watching this.

hey man, i just discovered your channel and i really like your stuff. i feel like you should make a video on los campesinos! - they've been pretty popular in the once twee pop and now indie rock/emo scene since about 2010 and are probably the best band i know of. they're lyrics are wonderfully smart and the instrumentals are a mix of whirling bass and screeching violins, they're nothing like i've seen before or ever. i think you'd really like them :)

As for most of the negative comments I’ve seen on this video, don’t let them get you down or prevent you from creating future videos. I feel like alot of people feel that it’s your responsibility to make sure EVERYONE knows how terrible of a person so and so is and if you leave out any misconduct at any level than you’re not reporting well enough but I don’t think your goal is tell everyone how bad of a person they are. Unless I’m wrong, I don’t think that’s ever been the point of your rise and fall videos. Rise and fall videos don’t have be “look at how terrible of a person whoever is” videos and I appreciate that about your vids because all of these people are still humans with complex thoughts emotions just like all of us. Not every video has to be a witch hunt or a psa about how terrible someone is. There’s plenty of that on the internet already. I love your content man and I want to see you do well, in fact most of us do. Keep on creating and I’m pumped for what you have next!!

Ik I’m late but this is still crazy to me. I was a regular performer/crowd member at the Hoosier Dome during Eric’s time at the Hoosier Dome. Drove them home from shows, played shows either them etc. I was in New Jersey with my last band recording an EP the day everything came out. Ik following drama isn’t healthy but we were glued to Twitter whenever we weren’t recording that day. 😅

I totally understand the blatant hypocrisy of all this. At the same time. Come on. They don't deserve to get canceled over this. I get it, Eric tried canceling other people over simliar issues. But here's the thing, I don't think they that was right etither. Jesus Christ, people. We have to give others the space to apologize and attempt to grow. These are young little idiots, and they are far from perfect. I was also a selfish moron when I was in my early 20s/late teens. But if we decide that no amount of apologizing is ever enough, it just shows an apology is not really what we want.
Super agree, It was Eric carrying this act. Social media (super hard for most people) and songwriting? I could not imagine having these big opportunities at their age. Of course if the other bandmates aren't contributing more than live shows then why do they need a bigger cut?

Can you make vids where you show new and interesting bands in the scene rather than this kind of content. If it's what you want to do then go for it cuz it's not my problem, just personally I prefer your vids discussing new artists. Plus it helps shine a light on the better parts of the scene and lets it grow

@@SnailHatan I know he does I’ve been a fan for a couple years but the last couple vids have just been rise and falls or looks at legacy acts in the scene with the exceptions of salughter beach dog and charmer vids. I discovered south loop summer early last year and I've been listening to hospital bracelet routinely since, I was wondering when they'd drop new music this whole time and now finding out about all this is so sad
Live by the Twitter mob, die by the Twitter mob. I mean they were being a wak putting their success before their friends but I feel like that's very normal in the music industry. But like you said you reap what you sow. If they hadn't been one of those types on Twitter maybe this would've ended differently
this video is such a mess. you make it sound like pushing for inclusivity and equality is a bad thing. not to mention your utterly bizarre point at the end that everyone gets their "just deserts". sometimes bad things happen to good people and good things happen to bad people. your weird fascination with never calling anyone out for anything in case someday it might turn on you is not only self serving but totally takes away from whatever criticism you were trying to level at the member of the band. you have some real political brainworms, try to be more objective next time.

I knew a bit about the controversy before the video and I gotta ask the people who said Nate only scratched the surface. What else did Eric do? I know they didn’t pay like anyone who worked on the album and tried to undermine some other bands (I think khaki cuffs?) but I don’t know anything more than that. Seeing all the dissent in the comments made google a bunch of things related to hospital bracelet but found almost nothing.
I had to download fucking twitter to find out what happened but I dunno how to find anything. I’ve always avoided twitter cause I saw it as overly harsh and people get angry at you for not being in the know on recent events. Can someone please expand on all that happened?

@@Silencex84 as the drummer, all of these issues were brought up to me by multiple ppl privately for months leading up to my tweet. i had to say something that specifically affected only me and my bandmate to make it known that eric isn’t something worth working with, which then brought on the deluge of testimonies regarding their harmful actions & manipulative behaviors. it’s disappointing to see so many ppl play off what eric did when it was very real for me and many others.

The reason shit like this keeps happening is because people pin their own worth by constantly comparing themselves to others. Just do the best you can. Don't ask questions like that and expect to get anything constructive. At the end of the day, you're the arbiter. Be the example.
Let me preface this by saying that I have no idea who this band is and what the members did.
Another issue with bands, in general, is that bands are made up of people. As someone who has been in bands since their teens (I'm in my 30s now), and spent a lot of that time also booking shows...this isn't new. When I started playing/booking shows, MySpace hadn't even become a big thing yet. It existed, and quickly became a thing, but it wasn't a big thing at the time. So, unless you interacted with these people in person, you had no way to know. If you take a look, the general publics knowledge of bands doing distasteful things rose as the internet became more of a thing for everyone. Now, everyone knows everything a day, sometimes even less, after it happens. As long as bands have people, this isn't going to stop. Hopefully it gets better, but it will never stop.
You're not a shitty person for liking bands who also happen to have shitty people in them. Certainly not if you weren't aware. It's not your job to update yourself with every little thing your favorite artists do and hyper-analyze them for wrongdoing.
I've had so far 5 bands I like get "cancelled". It doesn't make me feel shitty in the slightest.
I feel nothing because I don't bear responsibility for someone else's actions (in this context). I also understand they can make mistakes because they're human, but also they should face consequences because they're human. The most I can do is learn to conduct myself better as a person by learning from their mistakes.
I don't know if you should stop listening to their music or not. I leave that to the individual to make their own decision. My personal "line" that I draw is when a band preaches certain values and is then caught breaking said values.

Have you ever listened to earlier bands like Armor for sleep, the starting line, the early November, or Emery? The question by Emery is amazing or stuff like the receiving end of sirens, or Boys Night Out their album Trainwreck is one of the best concept albums of all time the album tells a heartbreaking story. I'm sure you would like these bands considering the bands you talk about on your channel which I'm new to but have already watched like 20 videos back to back. Keep up the great work mate.

It's so funny to be out of the social media loop and randomly find out that a band you thought would release another album at some point probably never will. TBH though, I don't give a fuck about Arya or Manae. The acoustic record without them is just as good as South Loop. Eric should just admit to having been a shitty person and keep making music.

Honestly… i do not care about these issues at all. You set this vid up as though there was some huge scandal- which is a huge issue in music, esp when it involves sex. assault; but in reality, these problems had everything to do with the monetary value of each member. The music industry is inherently corrupt and it’s gross of you (and others) to call out one really cool artist when the issue is rooted much deeper than any performer. And for the record, vocalists are much more valuable than any other band members. I mean, look at what happened to escape the fate 😬
Also, why are you trashing someone for speaking out against shit they see?? That doesn’t make their actions inherently perfect and the idea that any individual who wants to make a statement must be a Saint themselves is incredibly retrogressive
im honestly crushed, i really loved Hospital Bracelet. i would still love to listen to their music but i really dont want to support people like this, so im in a bit of a dillema. i am also impressed with my ability to find good bands right before it is put to light that they arent good people, it happened with McCafferty, SWMRS, and a few others that I can't remember.
if it helps to know, all of the ppl involved with HB beside eric have been receiving our fair share of profits (and are involved in other projects) so it does actually help if you bought a shirt or vinyl or stream the songs. if you want to support us as the artists we are now, go follow our accounts linked above and stay posted for our future endeavors.
