I agree, the interior design is awful. They could have left the last Gen interior and just updated some things and no one would have complained. No more knobs, no more buttons, no more practical storage cubbies/slots. What was wrong with under seat storage drawer or sunglasses holder? The exterior is great, but the interior is too minimalistic. Can we also talk about air vents for a second, those vents look so low! When your driving, does air even reach your face, or just hit the underside of your arm when holding the steering wheel?
I've been living with a Mk8 GTi for two months and have no issue with the user interface or the new cockpit layout. If you have eyes that work, then you can see what you have pressed as the minute you press something the colour changes, or a notification in the instrument cluster lets you know whats what. If you are used to using a smart phone, the ux in the Golf is no different. The interface for me is just fine, modern and "smart". My only negative critique would be the stereo slider for the volume not being illuminated, but I tend to us the slider on the steering wheel which works like a charm.
i have a mk8 gti and while the back up camera distortion isn’t great, the bonus is that you can switch to a wider angle which lets you see roughly 180 degrees around the back of the car. has really helped me gain some extra visibility when i’m parked between two large SUVs for example
You can switch the modes using the R button. But since I don't believe you own the R, and just have it for review purposes, you might not have taken the time to learn the system and get used to functions better.
VW has horrible UI and sus reliability but is otherwise cool. Civic Type R would be the Honda competitor. It seems good. GR Corolla is most intriguing in my book.
Buy what you can afford but civic SI is an overpriced car. To get an SI for 35k at that point get a wrx. That's what someone I know is paying for their SI

how have you enjoyed your mk8
once you setup shortcuts in that infotainment system i've heard it's much better.
only in the new golf can you accidentally set the defroster on full blast while trying to turn your headlights on
😂
So for mostly daily driving and driving fun on the on and off ramps , is it worth the premium over the gti , manual

Dear VW: Please more colors. Not just blue.
2023 vw golf r manual, or 2023 honda civic si or 2023 Toyota gr corolla? I am leaning towards the vw .
