Honestly I found Sounds Of A Playground Fading to be better than A Sense Of Purpose, in fact, A Sense Of Purpose is my least favorite album, so, yeah.

I agree Sounds of a playground is a great album, but for me everything after that went sour except for a track or two.
And sense ain't their best it's true but I can see it was a rough time for the group or something in therm of musical directions.
Mort Fantôme I kinda agree, though there's a part of me that likes these new songs.
Siren Charms had potential to be experimental and nice, but the core In Flames sound was weaker than Sounds Of A Playground was.
really ? I think that ASOP is a great album. IMO it's the best album of their post clayman era
Mickael Campoy I think the production might be one of the biggest turnoffs of the album, so it might be that. None of the writing really grabs me either. It just comes across really generic blend of rock and metalcore on that album.

Jon Clayman yup, that's kinda why I liked this song first time I heard it. The last two albums especially were about healing and self reflection, makes sense, when I listen to older albums it's more of a thoughtful feel, the last bunch of albums were centered around healing and self-reflection, which people avoid or scared of, on here at least, CLEARLY

I have loved In Flames from The Jester Race to Reroute to Remain to this. Change is inevitable had they not experimented and changed we'd have called them stale.
As in, Dark Tranquillity, (as much as I love and respect those guys).
***** So, the thing with Dark Tranquillity, is they DID change up their sound after The Mind's I, and it added more modern metal elements to the sound, but the problem is that Damage Done - We Are The Void showed little experimentation between those albums. I'm not saying the material is bad, but I am saying that it can get stale to hear the music not really change up for that long.
While there are some differing songs, they ultimately sound very similar, like you could mix them up into 1 single playlist and it would be very smooth song from song.
Construct did try to change it up a bit, but I feel like it still wasn't a big change. Bigger than the previous albums post 2000 from one another, but not as big as The Mind's I to Projector.
Like I said, they're not bad songs, and there's some killer stuff, but it doesn't hit as hard as something really refreshing.
After SOAPGF they changed genre tho. This is at least kinda like there early 2010s sound

Yup, I bought Colony when it was new. This bad has been bad ever since Reroute to Remain. So many other bands have held up a lot better. They sound like they want to make nu-metal great again..
BuckRogers Eh, I thought it was best up until Come Clarity. I listened and liked some of their stuff afterwards but Battles is seriously awful.

That is interesting. I didn't like in Flames much 5 or 10 years ago, just couple of songs which I discovered from my friend who became fan after I showed him the "Trigger'.
So I'm not that kind of true fan who follows the band for the whole it life time. But thing is I started to listen them more carefully after Sounds of Playground Fading and I'd say I like their new sound, I like that these guys are not hesitating to change their style an experiment with their sound, I like that they are not afraid to change.
And actually grewing older I've started to understand their lyrics from a little different way, starting from these "Trigger" as example. So they are quite actual for me now.
I understand that many people are sad about In Flames sounds now not the way they expected but as for me I like they experiment.
In Flames deserve so many more followers!

Just listened to Trigger again. These guys do both styles really well. I miss old In Flames, but at least they do rock respectably.

While I do like some of their new stuff, the last two albums just sounded like commercial shit. Not because of the softer sound, it's just the same generic lame repeating structure and it honestly pisses me off that the song writing is absolutely bland and uninspired

Let's just say that we are far from Jester Race , Whoracle , Colony or Clayman here. I understand that a band has to evolve but this is not good evolution. Reroute , Clarity , Soundtrack and Sense Of Purpose were still decent but this is just poor. Last album was mediocre as well. In Flames is going down the drain unfortunately

In Flames fans are doing what Trivium fans did with silence in the snow. Silence In The Snow was a good album, but it's different from their old sound. In Flames is doing the same thing with this Battles album. Bands change. Who knows, the next IF album might be their best work? So please don't be so harsh on the band or the fans that still enjoy the music.

It's interesting how everyone's all pissy that In Flames has changed a bit. I love all the albums to be truthfull. Fuck I jam out to Siren Charms almost daily, sure Battles isn't my favourite album and sure I don't listen to it that much as I do the others but that's the thing. The band has a ln album that speaks to each one of their fans, if you love an older album that's cool, maybe the next one won't suit you that well but hey they proved they can do it, let them show you what else they can do.
I have friends who are stuck in their old ways who bitch about the new In Flames sounding like crappy mainstream pop garbage. I have other friends who can dig the new In Flames but can't stand the older albums claiming it sounds like 30 mins of some douchebags screaming nonsensical garbage over and over.
