(You can kinda tell at this point the mafia's leader, John Boyd, had been a pilot in Korea and had never really moved on from it; he genuinely seemed convinced that the future of air combat would just be Korea but supersonic.) Anyway, they got their homie, who was cheif desiner at General Dynamics, to build them their precious plane which was, surprise, suprise, the YF-16, then said it was the greatest thing ever built and went on a massive PR campaign to discredit Northrop as an aviation firm. No, I am not making any of this up. I'm not trying to say the F-16 is a bad plane, its a very good one and I'm glad we have it, but the fighter plane mafia behind it were definitely some very sketchy people. Stroke 3 didn't deploy any countermeasures.. He defeated all the missiles just by maneuvering. No one is sure why he didn't but the assumption is that the buckets were broken in some way.
11:11: Whats funny is the ADFs could still carry all of the stuff the Blk 10 can, it didn't loose the ability to hang iron bombs, and Mavs just because it can fire sparrows. Heck, a Blk 15 was used to intrigrate the LANTRIN TGP onto the F-16 for the Blk 40. Also, I may be wrong, but I believe the 16s used to test the GPU-5/A "Pave Claw" during Desert Storm (you know the cool green bi color camo 16s) were Blk 15 ADFs. As a National Guard unit, that was doing the testing. They didn't do it for long, and it failed pretty badly, and yet we still don't get the mini A-10 gun on any American F-16 in game for reasons unknown.

7:14 The Tomcat needed to be replaced at the time as it was outdated and was very expensive to maintain. In many ways the F-18 outshined the tomcat. I feel like the only reason people look at the tomcat well was because of TopGun. Without the movie it would not be as well known as it would eventually be. Btw not saying it’s a bad plane but it had some serious flaws.
Yeah, was coming in to memtion AC 5 but someone else already mentioned it lul. Either way, Tomcat does have a lotnof things to be given credit for. However, its flaws starts to really show compared to Hornet.
@@dutch24 As you stated , the repair cost were high. If Grumman made a newer , more advanced model, the repair cost would have been even higher than prior models. The F-14’s main feature was the Aim-54 Phoenix which was never really used under US service. The Navy did not need a heavy, outdated plane that was built to carry a specific missile that was already very outdated. The F-18 could do the same thing but for cheaper and more efficient cost.

Plus if an engagement was to happen between the F14 and F18 i would pick the F14 every time but i’ll let you do the research yourself on why i say that. Thats an unbiased decision for me, just based on pure research. But no aircraft is perfect and without flaws.

My uncle was part of the group that created and worked on the F-16A’s fire control system at General Dynamics back in the early 1970s. We visited once and he lived really close to the factory field in Ft. Worth. As I was all of 8 back in 1972 the only thing I cared about were the planes and I don’t remember anything else about that Christmas. That man pretty much sucked all the math skills out of the family gene pool as he went on to teach physics at the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterrey then to the Lawrence Livermore Labs to work on the laser ignition fusion experiment. I flunked Algebra I. Twice.
I'll argue that going 2 circles in a tomcat vs f16 dogfight is the best strategy (if you've ended dogfighting the f16, which is a mistake on its own). If you go for 1 circle, you'll loose all your speed in a few turns and die instantly. But if you are actually able to manually control the wing sweep and maintain optimal corner speed, f14 comes really close to the f16 in wt. I've beaten numerous f16s in both American tomcats in a rate fight, because they were doing dumb things and I wasn't. Of course against a competent viper dogfighter you don't have a chance, but in 2 circles the tomcat will survive for longer time than in 1 circle
Two weeks ago I watched this video after deciding to grind my ass off to unlock the F-16A, tonight I finally unlocked it and promptly spent all my GE’s on flares and the G suit. It’s beautiful
The hornet wasn't meant to replace the tomcat. It was to replace the large number of different models of ground attackers (a7 Corsair/a6 intruder) and also supplement the f14 as a fighter. The super hornet was what replaced the tomcat in the end due to being less expensive and offering a wider range of mission capabilities, also since the Soviet threat was gone there was no need for a high performance fleet defense fighter.

There's this slight issue of the non amraam F15s and Gripens being the same BR as the sparrow F16s while having better missiles, although you'll probably be uptiered most games anyway so meh. Also a comparison/guide on missiles might be a fun idea. Perhaps compare all heatseekers or fox3s? Lookin forward to next video either way
Yeah the F16AJ being in the game opens the door for some weird tech trees. With it being in game technically means they could give japan the F16XL because at one point it was proposed to japan like the F16AJ. The funny thing is after japan was shown the f16XL japan was like this is cool and we are kinda interested but it still does not fit the requirements. This proposal would later be canceled by the US after the US airforce passed on buying the F16XL Also Gaijin gib my F16AJ gear door sparrows (the mounts are still in the files)
Calling the Hornet worse than the F-14 is like saying that instead of the M4 Sherman the US should've produced Tiger 2s, sure the Tiger 2 is better on paper, but it's a maintanence hell, way more expensive, and far less flexible And if you consider the C hornit straight up gets 10x amraam 2x sidewimder, then the F-14 is straight up worse
I still don't understand how people die to Phoenixes/Fakours... Just climb to medium altitude, TURN LEFT (or right, whatever floats your boat), maybe drop some chaff and fucking voilla! You are free to climb back and absolutely annihilate everything... Only time i died to those Fox-3s is when i: A) Just scrolled Wikipedia while climbing B) i died twice to some absolute chads that used them in close combat (i gonna be real, i didn't expect that). And then i saw that both of those guys were lvl 20-24 so they probably didn't even realised what they were doing.
There’s a problem with that, because of the sheer amount of miles flying around it’s very probable to have 2-3 fakours launched at you. Not to mention by simply notching You won’t dodge them. So you need to also launch chaff and on a aircraft with 60 countermeasures like the F-4S or the MiG-29 that’s a big problem

I'll argue that going 2 circles in a tomcat vs f16 dogfight is the best strategy (if you've ended dogfighting the f16, which is a mistake on its own). If you go for 1 circle, you'll loose all your speed in a few turns and die instantly. But if you are actually able to manually control the wing sweep and maintain optimal corner speed, f14 comes really close to the f16 in wt. I've beaten numerous f16s in both American tomcats in a rate fight, because they were doing dumb things and I wasn't. Of course against a competent viper dogfighter you don't have a chance, but in 2 circles the tomcat will survive for longer time than in 1 circle
Two weeks ago I watched this video after deciding to grind my ass off to unlock the F-16A, tonight I finally unlocked it and promptly spent all my GE’s on flares and the G suit. It’s beautiful
The hornet wasn't meant to replace the tomcat. It was to replace the large number of different models of ground attackers (a7 Corsair/a6 intruder) and also supplement the f14 as a fighter. The super hornet was what replaced the tomcat in the end due to being less expensive and offering a wider range of mission capabilities, also since the Soviet threat was gone there was no need for a high performance fleet defense fighter.
The F-18 offered more but did everything poor. The F-14 was better end of discussion.

In a week they will announce an overhaul and removal of certain F16s just because you uploaded.
There's this slight issue of the non amraam F15s and Gripens being the same BR as the sparrow F16s while having better missiles, although you'll probably be uptiered most games anyway so meh.
Also a comparison/guide on missiles might be a fun idea. Perhaps compare all heatseekers or fox3s? Lookin forward to next video either way

Yeah the F16AJ being in the game opens the door for some weird tech trees. With it being in game technically means they could give japan the F16XL because at one point it was proposed to japan like the F16AJ. The funny thing is after japan was shown the f16XL japan was like this is cool and we are kinda interested but it still does not fit the requirements. This proposal would later be canceled by the US after the US airforce passed on buying the F16XL

Calling the Hornet worse than the F-14 is like saying that instead of the M4 Sherman the US should've produced Tiger 2s, sure the Tiger 2 is better on paper, but it's a maintanence hell, way more expensive, and far less flexible

I still don't understand how people die to Phoenixes/Fakours... Just climb to medium altitude, TURN LEFT (or right, whatever floats your boat), maybe drop some chaff and fucking voilla! You are free to climb back and absolutely annihilate everything... Only time i died to those Fox-3s is when i:
A) Just scrolled Wikipedia while climbing
B) i died twice to some absolute chads that used them in close combat (i gonna be real, i didn't expect that). And then i saw that both of those guys were lvl 20-24 so they probably didn't even realised what they were doing.
There’s a problem with that, because of the sheer amount of miles flying around it’s very probable to have 2-3 fakours launched at you. Not to mention by simply notching You won’t dodge them. So you need to also launch chaff and on a aircraft with 60 countermeasures like the F-4S or the MiG-29 that’s a big problem
@@SpitsAreTheBest_Mk.IX_61 i literally use MiG-29, you can notch them without using chaff, you just need to do it not when fucking RWR start to scream at you, but earlier. Works every single time.
