It was somewhat similar to this in the mid to late 90s. I remember going to these types of parties when I was a teenager. They’d play the Romeo & Juliet soundtrack and you’d see random couples making out while others sat around chatting, playing ouija board, drinking, playing Sega genesis, etc. Good times.

I love the story the lead singer’s expressions tell. The 1975 said that if a song of theirs sounds uplifting, the message is probably sad, and that so fits with this. His face when he says “it doesn’t feel right” and “it’s cool, why would it not be” is heartbreaking.

Well see, he said, if a song by The 1975 sounds uplifting and happy then the lyrics would be the opposite and it was challenging himself to make the song just that, uplifting and happy. man i remember exactly when this song dropped and how it felt listening to it for the first time. my best friend at the time and i were hooked to this song for months and i remember listening to this as i travelled back to my hometown after the lockdown was announced. a lot has changed since then. I was 18, in my freshman year, everything felt amazing. Now im about to graduate soon. Everything is so dull. I forgot this song existed and i just happened to remember the music video out of nowhere. Now I'm nostalgic about the short timeframe in early 2020 when everything in my life was right. My bestfriend that i mentioned earlier and I dont talk anymore. I dont know if she remembers this song. If she remembers us singing together quietly in the library. I miss those days. Listening to it after a few years brought so many bitter sweet memories.

I always thought labyrinth from midnights was such a stand out from the album and the moment they announced they were dating last year, it finally made sense to me. And of course question…? with lyrics obviously pointing out to matty and when the 1975 had it on their pre-show playlist when they were on tour. Throughout the years they’ve often used each other as inspiration in their songs and I just find that so amazing, it’s so sweet. I just absolutely despise all the hate that matty from all the misinformation that swifties (I’m a swiftie myself btw to be exact tay75 fan) spread because of their own biases, all because they fell in love but I’m glad at least ttpd almost defends him and doesn’t paint him out to be the villain instead it was the swifties/press. It hasn’t all been cleared up and people still hate on him but there has been a surge of support for matty so at least there’s that. I can’t wait til the next 1975 album if matty will ever write about whatever happened in all this.

So there’s this girl. We’ve been friends since we were like six, I don’t even remember. As I grew up I often thought „she’s really pretty“ or „how do the boys not like her?“ One day I realized that I had madly fallen in love with her. In stages, just like it says in the song. I would always hate how she thought so low of herself. She never liked hearing her own laugh, never wanted to look into a mirror, she even hated the color of her eyes (a gorgeous shade of dark brown with golden sprinkles whenever the sun is shining)
Whenever we hang up on the phone we say our “I love you“s to each other, but I know that she’s never gonna mean it the way I do.
Every time I hear this song I can’t help but think about her. I’m not crushing on her, I’ve had crushes before but it never felt like this. The way my heart goes faster every time she texts me. How I lose my breath whenever she finally gets confident enough to turn on her camera during a video call. The way I panic when she leaves me on read for three minutes, even though I know that she’s a slow texter. I think I’ve genuinely fallen in love with her and I don’t know how to get over it.
