I have found Nanci after carrying around four unplayed vinyl LPs for 20 years through four house moves, so feel a real idiot! Came back via Dylan and Iris Dement who was my favourite. Nanci is not far behind, such tunes and words, such energy! Thanks, America! I have bought 21 albums in the last 2 months. Peter Turner, Old Engand
Just saw Robin crash his bike on the ramp Which brought me to this song No tears in my eyes now that both have gone Beautiful tribute to Robin by Nanci
Yes i love the tribute also... and i loved nancy griffith since i first heard her sing once in a very blue moon .. but i don't understand the smile when she says ...he hit the ramp? Is it a laughing in the face of death thing?
@@Legnerps I think that it’s just an enjoyable tune. Tejano singers will sing songs about the most violent things and, unless you know Spanish, they may as well be singing love songs. Hard to tell the difference.
@@Legnerps Strange I was thinking exactly the same thing, only watched the crash yesterday I suppose the song keeps them both in our memories. Great singer lovely woman reminds me of the the late great Karen carpenter, sadly all three gone ❤
Great song about a very sad event. Written by Richard Dobson. I was fortunate enough to hang out in Richard's living room when he still lived in Galveston after the 2nd annual Townes Van Zandt wake at The Old Quarter in 1999. Richard's a class act and one hell of a nice guy. This song was the first I'd heard of him and thank god and Nanci for it. Look him up folks! I see Roy Husky Jr. playin' bass in the background. Another amazing talent. Thanks for the video man...
one of the first songs of hers i ever heard...must be about 20 years ago .and i've been hooked on her ever since. sweetness incarnate with a voice of steel!
I'm 67... every time one of "our" generational greats passes my...our world is more diminished. They say it's bad to live in the past... but ...that's where all the good stuff was. 😔
That's an interesting point, but I've never thought of the song as being directly about the tragic death of Mr. Winter-Smith. To me, it's about a person from Texas who inadvertently hears a random news story from the other side of the world and how it momentarily makes them reflect about their own life.
Sorry to be a "Moaner", but I served with Robin Winter-Smith on a British Army M/C Display Team and it hurts me to see this woman smiling when she sings about him losing his life in the way he did. Come on Nanci, have some respect.

08/07/79 RIP Robin.
She is just amazing. I love how much joy she gets from singing. I have never even heard this song before and I thought I knew everything she did.

It’s so cool you got to meet him!
R.I.P. Nanci. So glad I got to see you.

Then and now a voice of gold straight from heaven!!

Both gone... great song tribute
there's a lot of great Nancy songs missing from this playlist , but what a voice!
So hard to watch now - God speed Nanci

Well said and absolutely correct. Best Regards,
Fabulous.
She is so good here...nice, a favorite:-)
I wish someone had this song video from first apperence @ Austin City Limits in 1985. Smoking guitar work! If anyone has it let me know!
I LOVE Nanci.
RIP
What an oddball song. Just weird.
Come join "The Nanci Griffith Group" on Facebook!
There's Roy Huskey Jr on slap bass. RIP

With respect he knew the consequences of a failed attempt, its very sad but she is remembering the guy and celebrating him, nothing more, nothing less
get a soul mate , you're a puppet not a patriot
An me, but Smudge would have thought it great than there was a song about him.
Please just shut up loosey goosey. It's a song ffs. If u are military as u claim. Please don't be a little bitch about things
What is your opinion on the "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" by Gordon Lightfoot ? Highly unlikely that Nanci is reveling in the loss of RWS.
