      Maple Leafs lives depend on it. If they are close they need to make some risky moves before the trade deadline. …….. Edmonton needs a cup ……. NJ just feels like the right time.

    As a Rangers fan, I feel a sense of dread when thinking about the future. We have great talent, we have some superstars, we have an Igor, but we lack depth, cap flexibility, and Vincent Trochek is looking like the next Brad Richards. At this point I don't know what we can do. Kreider and Zibanejad aren't going to get any younger, I have no idea how Laviolette is going to do as coach, and I seriously doubt anyone is going to trade for one of our expensive contracts. At the very least there is still a chance. This team will make the playoffs, maybe win a round, but can they beat Carolina, New Jersey, Tampa, Toronto or Edmonton? I dread to learn the answers.

    My personal top 3
    3) Edmonton- McDavid and Draisaitl, specifically their ages and contracts. Nothing more needs to be said.
    2) Carolina- their list of UFAs and RFAs going into the 2024 and 2025 offseasons is nearly a mile long. This core’s last chance before major roster shakeups is this season. Make or break year.
    1) Toronto- the fanbase, the market, their current core, everything adds up to being unrivaled in needing to win this season the most.
    Also I wanted to reach through my screen and pet Cortana so badly at the end😂

    I can’t wait to watch Robo and the Stars this year! I think they’ve got a very well-rounded team that wants to make a deeper push this season.

    There is defiantly alot of pressure on Toronto and Edmonton to end the cup drought in Canada, sadly I still dont think neither team is quite there just yet.

    Toronto Maple Leafs need to win the 2024 Cup and every year that they don't. Edmonton a distant 2nd. Bruins will miss the playoffs.

    I kept my expectations on a huge low on the Rangers following their disappointment against the Devils in the 1st Round last season and fast forward to today the Rangers are now 1st Place in the league

    Edmonton is too top heavy and they have too many bad contracts to get it done. Holland basically made all the same mistakes he made in Detroit. He’s an awesome GM, as long as he doesn’t have to deal with a salary cap.

    Rangers, Oilers, Maple Leafs and Panthers. Say Wrister, have you thought about doing a video on the CHL or one of the three leagues in it, like the WHL?

    • @TwistedWristerHockey
      @TwistedWristerHockey  Год назад +1

      I don't have a specific idea in mind right now, but maybe I'll change my tune as I hear more and more about top draft-eligible players - especially from the WHL. It excites me that, for example, Berkly Catton for my Chiefs could project as a top-10 pick! Also, I never got around to filming anything, but I have all sorts of notes and highlights of Luca Cagnoni (since he's a Sharks prospect), so I might keep a tab on him this year 😃

    • @alicebenson8512
      @alicebenson8512 Год назад

      Hmm, maybe you could an overview video on the teams in the league (at least for the WHL). But I agree, with Portland we got a lot of veteran guys coming back and Seattle and Kamloops are lookin' depleted from the draft. So I think the Winterhawks could make a serious push for it all this year. I'm looking forward to seeing how Spunar improves in net as well.@@TwistedWristerHockey

    One thing about the oilers situation is the clock is ticking for both McDavids and draisaitl’s contracts which are set to expire in a few years (Draisaitl’s expires in summer of 2025 and McDavids in summer of 2026) so these next few years gotta count

    • @maximilianmaier3950
      @maximilianmaier3950 Год назад

      and McDavid's age doesn't make the situation any easier for the Oilers. He'll be 28 when his contract expires, so this upcoming one might be his last big contract, because he'll be way into his 30s by the end of it. So if the Oilers can't show him, that there is a serious chance to win a cup in EDM soon, I don't think he would re-sign with them, no matter how much they would offer him.

      @Justin_Coughlin Год назад

      @@maximilianmaier3950 and think of the long term ramifications it would have, considering that they already lost the greatest player of his generation Wayne Gretzky in his prime, so to then potentially lose McDavid 38 years later would be like history repeating itself

    I have 4:
    Carolina because they need to take advantage now because the East is only going to get harder with NJ and Buffalo both having stacked rosters. NYR because so much of their offensive production up front is nearing the age of decline. Colorado because that team is so stacked that they need to win at least 2 cups and probably 3 to feel like they took advantage of the talent they have. Edmonton because again like Colorado they need to win multiple cups with McDavid and Draisaitl.
    I've written off Pittsburgh and Boston, their window is closed.

      Well said 👏 ...I'm almost expecting that, by next year, the Eastern Conference really shakes up (it'll probably be more gradual, but change is on the way).

    now I think the Stars have a few other things that could give them the massive advantage in the West.
    1. the Duchene/Seguin/Marchment line.
    Duchene has made an immediate and strong impact in Dallas so far, and his line mates Seguin and Marchment mesh nearly perfectly with him. Marchment just scored a hat trick with that line on New Years Eve as of this comments posting. Seguin is picking up his offensive capabilities once again and is putting goals into the net like crazy.
    2. Wedgewall and the Otter
    Jake Oettinger is prime goaltending for Dallas, and has proved his ability in the playoffs before (2021 Calgary series). However he has been down with injury since early December, and Scott Wedgewood the veteran backup has become a brick wall in between the pipes. He has been holding teams down game after game to allow Dallas to work the offensive zone. Either goalie you face in Dallas is gonna give you trouble.
    3. Joe Pavelski rallying cry
    The consensus among most Dallas fans (including me) is that the Stars need to win the cup this year for Joe Pavelski the 39 yr old veteran. He's on the last year of his contract, and has given Dallas a lot of memories in recent years. it would be more than fitting if the Stars got Pavelski the cup after all those years prior trying in San Jose and Dallas for the cup.
    Overall, I think the Stars are gonna come back to the playoffs with a vengeance to win the WCF this time, and make sure they seal the deal to the cup finals. there have been chances before since the 99 cup win. Lots of heartbreak like the 2000 cup loss, the 2019 playoff run, the 2020 cup final loss, and the most recent WCF loss to Vegas. Dallas has proved they can go toe to toe with any team in the league, but need to win the cup now to prove they are as good as a team as those in the East that are constantly favored to win year in year out.

    Where are the sharks this has been the past four years no cup come one twister

    • @TwistedWristerHockey
      @TwistedWristerHockey  Год назад

      The Sharks would certainly be toward the top of the list if this list was a more general "who needs a cup next" video - along with the Sabres, Canucks, Senators, etc. But for this I'm focusing specifically on the 2024 Cup, so I'm analyzing the teams that have a somewhat realistic chance.
