    Well done son! I can see 'Ambassador' after your name soon!! Agreed that street will be great for this camera, primarily focusing on light and textures rather than getting the colours right?

      Cheers Mark! Yeah that's exactly what I'm thinking, it's going to really strip things back & make me look for images based on the light & shadows. Really looking forward to shooting this camera!

    Congratulations! As many others have suggested, I too think an Ambassador appointment would be a fitting reward for your excellent professional work using Pentax equipment.
    Street, Architecture, Portraiture, Action, really any subject matter is suited to B&W. I’d be interested in seeing your Motocross work taken with the Monochrome.
    Enjoy the camera!
    Cheers,

      Thanks mate I really appreciate that 👍 Yeah that's what I'm thinking, basically try to compile a varied batch of images of different styles of photography. I'll have to get out to a muddy Motocross/Enduro event also 😆

    I'm also someone who hasn't done a whole lot of street photo. Think I might be a little bit of a shy type.. but I've been trying to get into it more.
    Anxious to see how you go about it. Bring us for a ride in one of your local towns and show us some of the architecture and your artistic 'street' side.
    Oh, and awesome that Pentax are sending things your way as well. Congrats in a way.

      I'd class myself as an introvert, but I really enjoyed myself last time I took my K5 for some street. I must admit though that the 16-50 K3iii combo is rather large so I think I'm not going to blend in too well 😅

    Excellent Lee, Pentax obviously like what your doing. I hope the weather here in the North East improves for you to put it through its paces and I’m guessing the lens is the 16-50 PLM, if it is you’re going to love it.

    I'm interested in using it at night in low light at higher iso's. That, and I'm going to do a K3 Monochrome test versus 8x10 Ilford FP4+, that interests me as well. So far the tonality is really outstanding for a digital camera. It's like digital film. Cheers! 👍👍

    • @LeeIveson
      @LeeIveson  11 месяцев назад +1

      That should be interesting, I have to agree from my short time using the camera that the tonality is outstanding as is the low light performance 👌

    Well, sort of, since we can convert color pictures too ;-)

    If you liked the original DA*16-50, you will probably like the all-new PLM iteration even more, Lee. It should be a beast. If I hadn't found a great copy of the DA16-85, I'd probably want one of those too. 😁

      @@LeeIveson Sudden Death Motor is the key... Recently I bought kit of K20D and 16-50 + 50-135. That camera only had 2500clicks and those lenses look like recently unpacked. But 16-50 was dead from first moment and I had to reprogram it to camera driven AF only. And 50-135 luckily started moving a bit after few minutes of trying and now the SDM works as should.
      But in general that 16-50 optically is worse than my Sigma 17-50/2.8 which I have for several years. It probably was great lens for 10Mpix K10D when it was introduced, but with 24Mpix K3 it shows how it needs at least F3.5-F4 to feed that sensor. Only central part is +/- ok at F2.8. And AF accuracy.. hm.. SDM is dead, but it needs +10 compensation for the camera driven AF through phase detect AF. Live view +/- works accurately.
      It will be interesting to finally do some comparison of the new HD-DA*16-50/2.8 PLM AW with that Sigma. And unless it outperforms that Sigma really significantly (I have doubts), it financially makes no sense to buy it with current price. Moreover in most reviews af F2.8 it again shows some softness around frame borders. And it also does not have manual focusing scale, so trying to capture stars or polar lights in pitch dark would be even more challenging and only possible if something is visible on live-view.
      50-135 would also deserve some rework into HD DA*50-150/2.8 PLM AW.. but since Ricoh is already reducing product portfolio, it probably won't happen.

    I have many different Pentax cameras, the K1 MKII, Kp and all k3 models, i was looking to get the monochrome version but the demand was so high that I got shut out. Things worked out because by waiting for the K3 monochrome to come back in stock, Nikon released the ZF and while it is not a dedicated monochrome camera the switch that allows it to go from color to monochrome is more useful for my type of photography, i have a Fujifilm XT3 and XT5 and i enjoy using the dials on top of the camera body so when Nikon ZF was released i decided that it was the type of camera that I wanted to add to my collection of Pentax Fujifilm Olympus and Panasonic cameras, i also added the Zfc and Z6Ii.

    • @LeeIveson
      @LeeIveson  8 месяцев назад

      I'm jealous! You've got a lot of great cameras there! It's all about what works for yourself, if you find the old school on body dials work for you then it makes sense to go with that 100%. I must admit the more customizable buttons & dials a camera body has the better for me.

      @@LeeIveson thanks for the reply, I enjoy shooting with a wide variety of cameras and glass, i also enjoy photographing a wide range of subjects, even as a teenager with a film camera i photographed everything that interested me i just didn't take photography seriously until I started digital photography about 16 years ago when I turned 50. I started out with Pentax DSLR's and over the years due to the work I had i did not have to sell any of my cameras so I still have my Pentax k K100D super. Once Sigma stopped supporting Pentax cameras and Pentax was never one to put out many different cameras, i decided to add cameras from other manufacturers that covered full frame APSC and micro 4/3. So many cameras still have the DSLR style body with the larger grip and custom buttons. The cameras I added even though they are mirrorless have layouts similar to my Pentax cameras ,cameras like the Panasonic S5 and S5 MKII are easy to use and all the major functions are with dedicated buttons and dials, I travel and find myself in situations where large camera bodies are a issue, not one to use a phone to take photos ,I tried using a Canon high end point and shoot G15 I missed the ability to be able to change lenses so I went into 4/3 cameras, I have a Panasonic G9 and G95, Olympus OMD 1MKII and MKIII and a EM5 MKIII. These are my every day and travel cameras. I printed my own work from the beginning of my digital photography journey and after a few years I got involved in event photography, I started with the Memorial day service at the correctional facility that I worked at and photographed that event for eight years and during this time did weddings, baptisms, birthdays, family events and family photos. Now that I am getting older and have been retired I had some health issues last year so I finished event photography for clients and went back to photographing for myself and my family, l got my medical situations taken care of so my wife and I will be going back to Aruba and for this trip my carry on will be a photo backpack with the Panasonic G9 and a Olympus EM5 MKIII with a few primes and zoom lenses.
