- Join Janet on the inaugural Hunua Traverse Gravel Group Ride on some of the best gravel roads in Auckland for cycling on.
With limited traffic (we saw no service vehicles) and other riders, made it feel we had the whole of Hunua Regional Park, Auckland, New Zealand all to ourselves.
The group rode the 20km return trip on ebikes, which made the monster hill in the middle very doable. Mangatangi Hill Rd has an average gradient of 12% making it a good one to conquer.
The ride was 20km with 600m elevation. We started at Upper Mangatawhiri Campsite and rode up and over to Mangatangi Reservoir and returned the say way.
Hunua Ranges is a Kauri Die Back Controlled Zone, requiring us to use the provdied Bike Wash Stations where we scrub & spray our bike tyres and shoes. Anything to help with stopping the spread of this disease.
Janet (at time of making this video) is the only approved provider to host guided rides and cycle coaching in the Hunua Ranges. This was the first guided group ride she hosted along the recently opened Hunua Traverse.

So many smiles even the up hills.. Awesome work team 🙂
The e-bikes definitely take the sting out of that hill!
Nice edit. I have biked with Lucy before, she is amazing.
Thank you, Lucy was so happy!
Was that one half as they haven't connected it all yet? Or the whole ride
This was on the Southern Section of the route. The bit I between is not open yet but hopefully soon!
