Is it just me, or is Cat singing this even more beautifully than when he was younger? (If that's possible!) This performance is just so moving.
It's the added maturity to his velvety tones.
It isn't just you. I have his 1970's version memorized, note for note. This was better, and richer. No question.

When my friend and I were 19 we worked in the instrument sterilization room in a hospital. One day we sang this beautiful song, I sang melody and she sang harmony. After a little while of us blissfully singing "Morning has Broken" the Nurse Manager of the Surgery Dept down the hall came to us and said "I'm sorry, girls, but I need to ask you to stop singing. The patients in the Recovery Room are waking up thinking they've died and gone to heaven." True story.

This man wrote and performed some gorgeous songs. A very beautiful soul.
The song was actually a Christian Hymn written by Eleanor Farjeon and first published in 1931 BUT it was Cat Stevens that made it what it is today. Absolutely beautiful and yes...he is a fabulous writer too (just not of this song) and singer.
I'm 71 and have loved him and his music from when he 1st started.
Cat Stevens is timeless. He stood the test of time.
In 1973 I was staying on the third floor of an old Creole house in Freetown, Sierra Leone, jammed with old dressers. It was a depressing room to sleep in but was lit up at 6 am with the strains of Cat Stevens singing "Morning Has Broken". I looked out over the city - not a person in sight. That may classify as one of the miracles of my life.
Wow. He sounds just as good as he was back in the 70s. I've been listening to this amazing artist for over 40 years. One of my all time favourite songs

I was at high school when he was at his peak and now i am 66yo. I still love his music.!! There are singers who truly are classic and he is one of them.

One of my favorite Cat Steven’s songs. I was young and a college student then and folk songs were trending. I played this song with a borrowed guitar since I could not afford to buy my own and this became my oldest brother’s favorite too. When he died we played this song at his funeral. I am 70 now and I still play this song once in a while.
