Same here. I would count the days until we would visit my cousins who owned the original wooden effect 2600. Eventually he sold it too me and I still have it.
@@AllOuttaBubblegum123Same. Only got mine in 1985, a used one I bought from my friend which, incidentally, my dad bought for his family when we went on a trip to the big city around 1982. I only got to play it twice until I bought it from him a few years later.
Ahhhh the classic orginal style, wood effect 2600. I still have mine from the late 70s. It was an amazing time to be a kid. Im still gaming 40 plus years later. So thanks Atari.
Who would've thought this possible over 40 years after the original's release, complete with new games too. Just amazing. Thank you Atari! 🙌-Perifractic
Actually it is an emulator. It uses the Stella Atari emulator internally. Which is why it won’t play some games (like pitfall 2) and won’t work with a Harmony Cart
I wish i was old enough to watch video games evolve from atari so i bought a original atari with almost 100 games and its fun (im 14 btw) Edit: i also play all the main Nintendo consoles and im expanding my collection with ps1 and Xbox 1
What an amazing time to be a kid when the 2600 first dropped. I still remember sitting at my cousins playing adventure all day long. The crunching sound and bright colours. Then, actually playing as a superhero or being in Star Wars. It was mind-blowing, to say the least.
Man, you must have been from a different earth. The Flash messed up this current time line. My experience of this system was brutal..yeah I have mine in my attic with my original box also.
Kudos for having the silver label Gravitar in the cartridge scroll. But anti-kudos for having a red label Asteroids instead of the original picture label.
Actually I have played atari today. I bought a 2600 version black edition at a garage sale yesterday. It had all of its books and a few games with they're manuals. The games are Space Invaders, Asteroid, Missile Command and Berserk.
Still have the old Atari I got from a friend of mine. Gonna have to test if that 10 in 1 Cart works on the original system. And the original controllers working on the new 2600+.
It won't be released in Brazil with a pack of cartridges on physical media like River Raid, Enduro and more for a good price, just the cartridge has that carefree tape-snap sound.

You can buy cable extentions but at this point you are better off with a longer hdmi cord since its atari. Most of the games I played on it worked well but games that used the difficulty switches makes me wish they made a "heavy sixer" variant.
I think its awesome, but why the controller ports in the back? I feel like that was the biggest flaw in the original console. Any plans for wireless joysticks? Both 7800 and 2600 style?
I’m actually pretty excited with this. Preservation of the original games and a new system for potential homebrew. I would like to see a portable system like the Lynx get a second chance with it’s games.
Not a good idea... Now, you'll have to send teams of people out to the Alamogordo Landfill in New Mexico. You'll need them to dig up all the ET cartridges.
My memory of having this as a kid still haunts me today. I had to play levels on one game, and switch it to another game just to make 5 bad games to a moderate almost fun experience. Anyone saying it was great has a fading memory of their youth. Yet, I still own my original and have my box...when I play it i just go to my Nintendo or sega for a less frustrating experience..still sucked all the way until 16-32 bit area being the start of a golden age in all platforms.
But could just have the original USB controller and a subscription per day system so you can play directly on the page when you feel nostalgic and with a ranking.
Not gonna lie, but I had a similar idea in mind, but it also inspired me to also make an Atari console with all the legacy platforms, but to also play modern games & give it a PC mode to install Xbox Game Pass, Steam, Epic Games Store, etc. (inspired by Valve's Steam Deck) also maybe make it play both cartridges & CDs, backwards compatibility with 2600 (Maybe 5200), 7800, Jaguar, XEGS, Lynx, & of course base it off of the 2600 as well, even though it's kinda already happening now but who knows (also I study game design in college)
I think some even like the concept of some semi-endless games, but it would also be cool to do it with old-time graphics but with longer gameplay. Huh is cheap! Cool!
I ordered mine today. The idea of playing these actual cartridges again...nice! Since it is a 2600+ as in extra I would like some kind of game brag board to track wins or high scores like the initial of all arcade games...or perhaps a leader board of invited friends...
If this was using fpga I’d be in. But it’s actually an emulator in a box. I get, it’s cool. Great that you can use original cartridges but the emulation kills it for me, sadly ☹️
Really? 10 games? Even if this came with every single Atari 2600 and 7800 game, it would still be competing with emulation. Besides, something like this already existed like over a decade ago. The way it is now... Yawn... (Legal Disclaimer: This comment does not imply that I partake in the use of emulators.)
Would be great if Atari actually cared about Atari fans and gave us analog audio/video output, an SD card slot to play the games that your cart dumper can't handle, the six switches instead of four, and a 7800 controller in the box. It's not like anybody is making new 7800 controllers out there and that CX40 stick won't work with two-button games. But this is about all we can expect from a company willing to put their logo on AtGames Flashback and MyArcade products. I'm sure next year there'll be another version of this 2600+ for another 130 dollars that won't actually address any of these issues, which is par for the course.
