Hi Barb. This is so helpful. Thank you. How would you extend that formula if the person had two or more names that were in one column and combine the last name's initial in another column? To add to this - some of the first names is just one name and other have more than one name in the same column. Hope this makes sense.
Much better to use Flash Fill ... no functions, formulas and programming needed. FF is not dynamic but it is so easy to do, that hardly matters. In that case, make it dynamic by using Flash Fill in Power Query: also really easy.
@Emmanuelle 2007 ... goodness! Flash fill came in 2016, I think ... maybe shortly after that. Take a look for it on youtube, Emmanuelle ... you will love it. it's a good excuse to upgrade from 2007 if that's an option for you.
how will flash fill work in an excel where you want to generate code from the user input (i.e. full name in single cell) and the result will be displayed just below user input cells??? no you cant do using flash fill.
Thank you so much for watching my video. If you have any suggestions for future topics please leave them in the comments below.

you would use the same formula for the two first names and use the "&" symbol to add it to the cell containing the last name
Brilliant indeed! I would have never figured this out alone :)
Glad I could help!
How about if i only want the name and the initial to last name
for the last name you would have to find the space and then get the all the letter to the right of the space
Thanks
Welcome
Fantastic,thanks barb

how i can remove the first word i mean in the employee Names Column without change my 2 letters?

Thank you very much.
You are welcome!
Thank You! I didnt get the last little bit, but that's okay!
thanks
thank you so much!
You're welcome!
how do you insert this formula in between names?
You select the cell with the name from where you would like the initials to appear
Thank you
You're welcome
thanks!
Welcome!
How can seperate full initial name
you would do the first half of the formula
@@BarbHendersonconsulting ok
What if there are three words in names?
that would be a whole new formula
=LEFT(A1,1) & MID(A1,FIND(" ",A1)+1,1) & MID(A1,FIND(" ",A1,FIND(" ",A1)+1)+1,1) In case you got three-worded names!
Good tip!
Thanx so much!!!!!
