Second of all, the glasses available at Walmart are ready-made magnifier (this is how they can be "cheaper"). Places like Walmart don't grind lenses. They select from lens blanks and cut them to fit the shape. Ready-made magnifier glasses are NOT a substitute for prescription glasses.
Most cheap options (such as online) will not be a choice for people with very intense prescriptions. i.e only trying to fit your prescription based on what is in stock, while better ones will have the lenses made in a lab. The best, however, are manufacturing opticians where they transpose the prescription you bring from your independent doctor using the proper lens blank, and grind them to order. This method is significantly more expensive and normally takes a week or so but you can be assured that there are no compromises. Many “specialty” lenses are available ONLY from a manufacturing optician and have to be laid out and cut by hand… a very exacting process.
There has also been a class-action suit alleging that Walmart Vision Centers have been overcharging by not providing customers with the full reimbursement of their vision insurance benefits. It was alleged in this case that Walmart was getting double paid by insurance and the customer.
Additionally, there have been court suits over the treatment of optometrists and their practices.
Supporting a local brick and mortar is worth what you're paying for anyways. Local businesses will work with you if you need a cheaper option.

it actually wasn't too bad.. because the anestesia I didn't feel any pain or even discomfort. I could see what the doctor was doing, but because i couldn't feel anything, it felt like it was done on a screen in front of me rather than on my eye.. also, it was over super quickly

I was born extremely nearsighted, so whenever I hear someone say that they want glasses, I secretly want to beat them with a bat. That said, I had a third kind of surgery done to correct my vision: cataracts. I developed cataracts in both eyes while in my 30s and had both lenses in my eyes removed and replaced with hard synthetic lenses. My vision now is 20/20 from about two feet outward, and I only wear glasses to see closer, like reading a book or working on my computer. My vision is fixed, but the glasses for close up are much lighter and I don't have to wear them all the time. I drive and walk around without glasses now and I'm a lot happier. My surgery was a lot less intense than lasik with a much easier recovery. Best surgery I've ever had.
Bruh I literally wear a -12 powered glaas every single day and it's not getting any better. Like if, JUST IF I HAD EVEN A LITTLE BIT IMPROVEMENT IN LIKE 10 YEARS YOU WON'T EVER UNDERSTAND THE HAPPINESS I'LL FEEL THAT MOMENT. I was in the same situation as you, although I had the surgery when I was 17 because the cataracts had gotten so bad. The doctors did one eye first, and then the next week they did the other eye. I now only have to wear reading glasses to see things up close. It definitely beats having to wear glasses all day. Almost 10 years has passed since I’ve had the surgery, and so far it’s been great.

Oh god this was so me! I used to have pretty decent eyesight when i was little and i always wished that i could have glasses. When i started losing my eyesight, i regretted wishing it so much.
When growing up is all fun and games until our eyes decide to match our bodies by gaining length-
When I was very small I used to have good vision. My eyesight was okay and well. Once, I was testing the perfume in my big sister's bedroom, and when I was trying to press it on my clothes, it didn't work. I was looking at the hole, and I clicked (either without realising or I wanted to check if it works) and when it touched my eyes I got a painful burning sensation and I was screaming so so loud and crying, my mom brought me to the bathroom to wash my eyes from what I remember. The next day, I went to school and then I was having a problem staring at the board because it was a little blurry. The teacher asked me if i can see well or not. She then told me that I should tell my mom that I need glasses. I said OK. After school, my mom brought me to a hospital. I don't remember what else, but now I'm wearing glasses 😥

Glasses are really versatile. First, you can have glasses-wearing girls take them off and suddenly become beautiful, or have girls wearing glasses flashing those cute grins, or have girls stealing the protagonist's glasses and putting them on like, "Haha, got your glasses!" Having glasses can be difficult I know myself, BUT there can be good uses and bad uses. The good uses are you don’t have to deal with blurry vision anymore, and you can get many different kinds of glasses. The bad uses are when you eat soup or breath when you have a mask on your films will probably fog. Just don’t feel bad about yourself if you do have them. You’re just as cool as anyone else! You will soon get used to them in about a week or two.

I used to want glasses when I was like 8, but I realized that they just look bad on my face. It looks very long and square and my nose looks flat and attached to my glasses. It really affected my confidence honestly, and the feeling you get when you realized you forgot them at home is horrible. Ive done it a few times and literally almost cried because I had school and didn’t know what I would do.

REAL glasses REQUIRE a prescription via an eye vision test at an eye doctor. Glasses can be VERY expensive and also annoying.Mine costed 80 dollars,nothing special on them like UV like filtration or anything.Cheap frames too.Then of course losing,thats another 80 bucks,break,scratch them (Super easy to do),either put up with blurry spot in middle of vision OR go buy a new pair.Then of course forgetting them every damned day,that can make it so you cant do your job.
Glasses in general are a HASSLE to deal with.And with how bad her vision was I can understand why she'd want surgery.Seriously glasses get in the way a lot.You cant rub your eyes with them on,you have to remove them.And reading glasses? I'm not sure, but I'm guessing that's because normal water does infact contain some bacteria, as we all know. But eyedrops aren't. Also our tears contain anti bacteria. So those artificial tear drop must have the same formula as our own tears.
