They are still a big band in the U.S. The main thing is that Alternative Rock, and Rock in general, is no longer part of the Top 40 in Popular music anymore. It is mostly dominated by dance music and rap/hip-hop.

that's because their sound is largely influenced by the new wave British bands in the 80s. Even the name, The Killers, is from a New Order music video for the song Crystal.

They were first signed to a British label and lived in the UK for a few years in the early 2000s. Then by 2005 with the explosion of the Indie scene in the UK it seemed as though they were just another UK Indie band who had routes in the Beatles, and Bowie, then New Wave, then Britpop.

I know a million dudes from the throughout the American Southwest that sound just like him. He has an accent I like to call, "White Gridiron Football Jock". It's similar to the accent of Canadian Hockey Players (Eg Letterkenny's Reilly and Jonesy) but slightly more Texan and less sports based slang. To be clear, it's a very American Middle Class and Suburban accent but it's well understood by everyone else here since we all know that type of person (which is why the high school bully jock you see in movies is so cringey because the accent is not quite right).

Chas O.T.E that's actually very well documented in their lore. I think it was Ronni that had a cassette of the opening chords that he had worked on several years before even meeting Brandon and Brandon has a story how he listened to it in, I think it was maybe a Subaru he drove at the time, and being in love with it immediately.

    • @benhopp479

Almost correct. It was Dave (the guitarist) who had the cassette of the chords. Ronnie (the drummer, wouldn't join the band for another year after Brandon and Dave met). And it was Brandon's 1992 Geo Metro that he first played it not a Subaru.

I've been on a killers obsession the last few weeks never been a HUGE fan but enjoyed them but I have been a HUGE fan of the New York Dolls since I was 13 . So hearing him say he's a fan just filled my heart with joy. Surprisingly, I ended up in NV not too far from Las Vegas. 😊

I really relate to that, meeting someone who's driven in arts and thinking they can do anything as Brandon was referring to Trevor. Sometimes it might not be about your dream but instead it's a chain reaction onto someone else. It's giving them a spark. Planting an idea in their mind and watching them take off with it.

Brandon seems so wholesome. Just a genuine, kind & charming individual with an insane talent for songwriting and such a beautiful voice.
As a Brit, I loved that he mentioned covering a Travis song at their first gig. He's right to say they channel the influence of those bands (like Oasis etc) & give it a Vegas shimmer.
