- Brandon Flowers, lead vocalist of the Las Vegas-based rock band The Killers, joins Zane Lowe for an in-depth conversation about the band's greatest hits album, 'Rebel Diamonds' and new song "Spirit".
Brandon talks about his band members and what they each contribute to making the band successful, while Zane explains that "great drummers are the difference between great songs and careers." Brandon mentions the pressure associated with choosing the right single, and the pair reminisce about a time when the band sought Zane’s advice on a single. They go track by track through the history of the band, including hits like "Mr. Brightside." Brandon also discusses his relationship with his religion and how he incorporates that into his art.

I’m 78 years old and I love love love Brandon flowers. I was a high school English teacher when he first came out and I was letting students plays their favorite songs. I was an instant fan!!!! And I’ve stayed true!
My son sent me Quiet Town about six months ago on the off chance I would like the song. I listened to the song several times in a row. And immediately wanted to here more. B F and the Killers are now my all time favorite band.
BTW, I'm 75 years old.
As a diehard Killers fan this may be the best interview with BF ever. He’s a hard guy to crack and open up in interviews like he does here.
Took me all day to watch between customers but I was hanging on every word!
@@lanawilkerson2219I know that exact same feeling
I dont agree, Brandon has always been very honest and open in interviews, all depends on the questions the interviewer asks tho
It's obvious the respect and admiration Brandon has for Zane, so it's easier for him to want to bare his soul.
I have watched almost every interview out there with Brandon and I completely agree.
This is a brilliant interview!, Brandon's relaxed , Zane's on top form, like two old friends have a chat .
I’m so excited!!!!!! Please let’s get all 5 of you guys working on an album together. Love this band so much!
Brandon Flowers is amazing such a powerful singer ❤🎤🇮🇪🍀💯🔥
I love the interview with Brandon and Dawkins. Dawkins is so level, doesn't take it personal, highly intelligent and so quick thinking, yet objective and logical. Respect to Dawkins.
This was such a great interview
38:49
Brandon: ugh… it’s too early for that question
Where is the letter that Zane Lowe keeps referencing?
If you watch the official video release for Rebel Diamonds, Brandon recites the whole letter over the video.
30:48
that lou reed story, fkkkkkkk
Todo operado el brandon
Too much plastic surgery, he was so handsome 😢
Don’t worry,Botox will slowly subside😂
@@terrychang6503 Yes, it looks much better now :D
On New Years Day 2018 Brandon walked up to the counter of a cafe I worked at in Honolulu. My mouth dropped and I stuttered as I took his order. I was freaking out internally, but 😢I didn’t want to fan girl because he was on vacation with his family. I apologized for my nervousness explaining I was just a big fan. He was so nice and and offered to take a picture with me. I was so thankful because i never would have asked. I lost the pic on an old phone, but the memory of this moment is enough for me. Meeting him had been on my bucket list since Hot Fuss dropped. Such a down to earth guy. The Killers will forever be my favorite band. ❤
❤❤❤
Theres A Reason Some PEople Still Carry Normal Cameras Like Polaroids
Did you lose that phone? There might still be hope of recovering the photo if it was only accidentally deleted.
Brandon is so humble! A awesome frontman, with an amazing voice, and writes the most beautiful and exceptional songs! The Killers are one of the most underrated bands out there! Wish people actually listened to their whole albuns and not just their hits.
underrated ? they were massive, are you quite young
@@brendantindall805 yep, agree, they were. Nowadays, I don’t believe they get enough recognition for the amazing work they keep doing it. That just MY opinion.
When I go to their concerts, I notice that most of the people don’t know the songs other than their single hits... that's why I said, I wish people listened to their whole albums, to see how amazing ALL the songs are :)
True, I read or saw something on YT once, record companies give artists around 4-5 years, they're definitely survivors@@jaquelinelisboaa
Underrated?! We live in different universes... Brandon alone went to a small place to present flamingo in Barcelona You had to rush to be there. And half the city was singing until 2 am
Zane is so right about All These Things That I’ve Done - it has a completely different energy live. I definitely didn’t appreciate its power before I saw it live.
I felt the power of this song after seeing a video it’s attached to: “All these things that I’ve done PBS Carrier edition”. My brother had just entered the Navy in 2011, which is why/when I saw the video in the first place. But I still get goosebumps when I watch the video with the song to this day
For me it was at V Festival 2007. I still remember the walk to the tent after it was over, everybody singing endlessly into the night - I've got soul but I'm not a soldier~
I saw the live version in 2005 during the Live 8 Concert and it was amazing! The Killers were a new band at that time, but they had the best live performance with that song on the same level as U2, Coldplay and others at the same event.
I'm so glad that this interview finally happened! I know that Zane and the Killers go way back, but I didn't know that he was there during the recording sessions in the early days too. It's really like old friends catching up. Since Brandon was there alone, I kinda wished Zane had mentioned Brandon's excellent 2 solo albums that he made during the group's hiatuses. People should really check it out. IMO, his solo stuff in 2010 and 2015 was really great and allowed Brandon to grow even more as an artist.
Yes!!!! I love his Solo work
@@ivonnelopez8203 If the Killers go on another long hiatus, I hope Brandon works on some solo stuff as well.
@@MayLily just found out, he is working on solo stuff! And there’s going to be a Hot Fuss Anniversary
The Cars was my mom's favourite band. The Killers is my favourite band. Knowing Brandon inspired himself with their sound makes my love for the killers even more special...
Brandon Flowers is one of the last great frontmen and def the best of his generation. A pure showman
💯
Absolutely! I have never seen BF not give 100% in such an authentic way Everytime! So rare!
Pressure Machine was, in my opinion, the best album of 2021. Glad he's doubling down on that sound and that authenticity.
My favorite album from my favorite band
That album is soo beautiful and so underrated
why I am so glad that Zane loves the Uncle Johnny riff
also was awesome to hear that brandon's goal is to have all 4 of them making a record again, I wasn't expecting this
That will be awesome 🙌🙌
I really admire him talking about his faith.
"I still remember grandma Dixie's wake
I've never really known anybody to die before"
Brandon is one of the best leading men of all time and best of this generation imo he's unreal. I wish he played more Battle Born and songs like Just Another Girl, Miss Atomic Bomb, Wonderful Wonderful, Neon Tiger, Andy You're a Star, On Top, Sam's Town, Battle Born itself etc, all incredible songs.
Agree about Battle Born. I think its their best
@@boomtimesports5410 Yeah sadly they don't seem to like it much
Battle Born is far and away my favorite record. So cohesive and epic. Sad they don't love it as much.
Brandon Flowers seems like the nicest rock star ever.
That's it. That's the interview. That's the frontman. That's the band. That's the interviewer. The conversation. Honey for the soul. Thank you for your service, Mr. Flowers. You would never know how much it means to me
Brandon is a beautiful soul, honest, authentic ❤
I have never seen Brandon look so comfortable in an interview, this was a great a watch as it was a listen
Brandon Flowers communicates on a deep emotional level whether through song or interview. Love this man.
"You've always been cooler than you thought, and that's what makes you cool" - fantastic and true.
He's so freaking cool on so many levels. And the fact that he shares religious themes and symbolism in his music makes it extra meaningful to me as a fellow member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His music has kept me going time and time again.
Brigham young sent a man on a mission and impregnated the guy's wife (Henry Bailey Jacobs , Zina DH Jacobs, Brigham Young dynamic) also Clarissa Decker; Brigham married a 15 year old kid and had babies with her when he was an old man.
Glad they spoke about Dying Breed. What a song! 🔥
Fantastic song.
I saw The Killers on Brazil last month, was the best show of my life ❤
Everything Zane said about When You Were Young is soo on point! That song really elevated the Killers to another level entirely. I still can't believe that this same band released both Mr. Brightside and WYWY within just a span of 2 years.
Finally some Tranquilize attention it is so good and has been ignored
Well Lou Reed is a total legend I think that song won some awards though so it's not underrated at all.
Right when he was about to elaborate more about Mr. Brightside. He keeps interrupting him. I know Zane is excited but I want to hear Brandon talk more not Zane
I understand that Brandon and this guy Zane have a history or whatever, but the guy won’t let Brandon speak a lot of times!! Let him speak!!!
Exactly
I'm writing this on the tenth and final night of the Vegas Colosseum shows at Caesar"s Palace. I managed to get tickets to two nights, and The Killers are at the top of their powers. No doubt about it.
I was at the August 21 show. Man, it was so great. I’m from Indiana and hadn’t seen them since the Day & Age tour in Indianapolis. I loved that show and it was great to see them again. One of my favorite concerts ever!
I’ve met Brandon in person and he’s such a beautiful man and a lovely person.
With over 20 years in the music industry, it's about time we give Brandon his flowers.
(Sorry, it was there for the taking.)
Brandon’s so relaxed talking to Zane. It’s good to see ❤
Brandon Flowers is a living legend. He is my idol.
Good interview. Zane could let Brandon talk a bit more though ...
Zane needs to stop interrupting BF. He should listen more and talk less.
Noone is gonna stop him tho..
I agree but perhaps they should. @@tuomase6999
Could listen to these two talk about music all day long!! Great interview! Going to see the killers for the first time at the end of this month and can’t wait!!! 😁😁
I still think Hot Fuss is their absolute best. When you give the music another listen as an adult, those lyrics really hit on that spiritual level. Pretty epic that he was so young when he wrote it. I couldn't understand the lyrics as much as I do now with life experience, I can appreciate it now.
I love the question about Religion :) I knew he was a God person and I love that about him. He’s just good 😊
Such a great interview!! Love it. It’s rare to see Brandon being comfortable giving interviews. Zane asked interesting questions (as always, IMO), so this was a nice treat as a TK fan 🩵
Love Brandon. Cutie one, great songwriter
I teared up when Brandon talks about how much Jesus means to him. This gives me a whole new perspective with The Killers new albums.
As a massive Killers fan it’s so good to see someone interview Brandon with such reverence, affection, and skill. ❤
I understand they need to change their style to stay relevant , but I hope they stick to that synth on some songs
The killers need a Vegas residency !!!!
I thoroughly enjoyed this interview, I love Brandon & The Killers, seen them many times. The fact he is still so humble is amazing. It was great to learn some new facts in this interview also - thanks Zane.
I never understand people when they say what does „I got soul but I’m not a soldier“ even mean?! Does it even need an explanation?! I get you Brandon! ❤ Even before you explained what it means, I was like „yep, so obvious!“
Same! It was pretty clear as soon as the song was released
I’ve seen the killers 4 times and every single time they put on an amazing show sooo good fan since ‘04 love them sm
By far one of the top front men ever.
The best name for a compilation album, period.
More podcasts please Killers!
Zane, you interview the greats all the time and you make the viewer/listener feel like they are in a room with you during the this process. This is another first rate interview with one of my favourite performers who I’ve seen many times over the last 20 years.
Keep it going Brandon and of course Zane.
Brandon's Testimony of Jesus Christ 46:00
I live in Michigan and am a U of M Wolverines football fan. It's awesome when the fans start singing Mr Brightside at the beginning of each 3rd quarter. It was amazing to watch everyone singing it at the 2024 Rose Bowl game a couple of days ago! It hypes the team, especially the defense! This band has hit icon status!! 🤩❤
Oh wow, small Anniversary shows.....thinking Vegas 🙂
As someone who’s demographically similar to Brandon Flowers, nothing about him resonates with me more than the fact that he is and is trying to be a “domestic badass”.
Did Brandon just quote 3 Nephi 27 from memory?! Just blew my mind and made me love him even more!
whats the time stamp?
@@rooftopazn18 Start at 47:00
If you listen closely, you'll find doctrine in many of his songs. The list is long...
@@michaelsorensen9683 100% right. And did you notice the similarities between the lyrics in Lightning Fields that KD Lang sings and some of the lyrics to If You Could Hie to Kolob? "There is no end to love. There is no end to truth." I think he borrowed those straight from the Hymnbook.
If He Was Christian They Would Be The Most Popular Band In The World, Ppl Still Associate Mormons With Mitt Romney And We HATE Republicans
Man I was there from the start. What a mastermind he is. I truly miss the early stages of The Killers.
Brandon will never know in all these years how much he has taught me
Always loved the band and also love the fact he’s not scared to be who he is especially in this day and age.
was the pun intended
His induction of the CARS into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame is one of the best I have ever seen. His genuine love of their music was clear. He was eloquent and as a CARS fan he made me love them and the KILLERS even more.
The Killers is my favorite all times band , they are just amazing, can’t wait for another album ❤
Brandon Flowers is such a sweetie ❤️❤️
I love this band so much 😭
Brandon is adorable!
I love you, Brandon Flowers!!!🎙♥️💐
It’s interesting to hear Zane say “You can’t be yourself on stage.” Not sure if I agree with that. Of course on stage is an embellished, amplified version. But I respect artists who go on stage as themselves and just play great music just as much as I respect the ones who are really performative and in character.
King Brandon! Doctor Ronnie! Count Keunig! Sir Stoermer!
12:25 Funnily enough, Bling is one of my favourites Killers songs
It’s probably my favorite Killers song, too, but it’s so hard to really pick one. It ain’t hard to hold, when it shines like gold, you’ll remember me. I get chills every time. And I just love all the desert references.
Huge shout out to his great grandma what a legend ❤
In 2006 I drove to Austin Texas to see The Killers for the first time. as of now, I’ve seen them seven times and I can’t wait to hear more! The Killers has brought me so much joy in my life, I’m very thankful!
Love this interview, I would want to have the music alongside it, sure it could turn into a great documentary
Lovely story of how Brandons Mum took her grandmother Dixie in to live with them when he was 6 yrs old. She arrived with a piano and that's how Brandon started playing.
Her wake!
Great interview. I have so much respect for Brandon. Nothing fake about him. The greatest front man ever.
Great interview, but it would have been nicer to let Brandon take a bit more of the airtime.
Incredible interview. Like every question I’ve ever wanted to ask him 😂
bout time you interviewed someone from the killers/The Killers. Biggest band around!
I’m three minutes in. Does Brandon speak?
😂😂😂😂😂 he does but he kept getting talked over
@@samansiddiquie1902 Zane has so much cache, gets the greatest guests - but he's insufferable. I can just feel every one he talks to cringing. Just look at Brandon at the tail of one of Zane's digressions. It's like the interviewees can barely contain their struggle to tolerate his absolute bollocks.
Neat memory of the great grandma....and of listening to Elton John with his dad. They have an exceptional catalog of music.Human and Spaceman, etc.
He's got to be one of the most genuine people in the industry, what a treasure.
Best live band in world ❤
Zane's ideal situation would just be him interviewing himself.
Ooooh, I was waiting for this interview! Wonderful to hear them dialogue, I just love Brandon and TK's music and Zane is just a genious in helping him put it into words. Can't wait for Rebel Diamonds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love this killers and brandon I have been a fan of there's and as a victim to since owns 7 years old when I first heard Mr brightside and saw them on tv in 2004 glastonbury I was 7 but the more I kept herring them the more I was a fan and I have grow up with there music and there amazing people and the music they have given to us all in the world makes it better they have helped me in my life so many times and still do am hoping to see them live in London next year for the first time with my mum really hope I do will be the best dsy of my life finally seeing brandon and the guys for real my dream hope to come true ❤
The Killers are my favorite band and have been for like 15 years or so now. They are so underrated but I really believe one day, they’ll be considered one of the greatest bands of all time. Brandon’s lyrics are just unmatched. I saw them live in 2012 and they didn’t sell out the Staples Center that year, but the feeling was more elevating than any live show I’ve seen.
sounds like dave and mark hate eachother
such a great band , I got lucky and got a pair of floor tickets in Portland Oregon. Absolutely Incredible Live Performance.
I’ve always loved these bands and their songs, but time goes on and you stash them away in your library. Zane “reinvents” that love with these bands with every interview, and I find myself going into deeper cuts of their music each time as well. Great interview.
Don’t think it would have mattered whether the first single from Sams Town was Bling or WYWY… the result would of been the same . Bling is a brilliant song
Mr brightside- a time in my life where I was understanding, realizing and mostly nostalgia
Amen on his commentary about Jesus!!
The Bruce collaboration on Dustland Fairytale kinda hit like an atomic bomb.
