I met Tony a few days before he got to play on this stage. We both were looking for something in the UK: I was chasing my favorite singer, Paolo Nutini, and Tony was after The Killers. We were staying at the same hostel room in Inverness, Scotland, and after a good time of laughs and jokes, we decided to go out and grab a beer, and it was then when he told me how much he had been rehearsing for this moment. There are no words to explain how hopeful he was and how his face lightened up when he said it. I wished him luck but, to be honest, I wasn’t entirely convinced that it would happen given how many people would be in the crowd and how small were the chances to be the lucky one among all the attendants. That’s what I thought back then. Anyway, we said goodbye an we went our separate ways. I left Inverness and he stayed there for a little longer. A few days later, I was scrolling down on Facebook and then I saw this. I was very happy for him, the happiest I’ve ever been for someone else’s achievement, actually. Thanks to Tony’s enthusiasm, I started listening to The Killers and now I can say that I’m a fan. Thank you, Tony. You made your dream come true and you did it amazingly. Update: I just got to attend a Killers' gig for the first time on April 29th 2022. A mexican fellow got up on the stage to play the drums for this same song, as usual, and although it was ok, I don't believe there's ever going to be another fan that plays the drums as accurately and energetically as Tony has done. Cheers four years later!
Ronnie is incredible!! He just picks up a guitar and does his thing... But, he goes to check on Tony once in awhile, just to make sure he's doing alright... Then grins like a proud dad!!
Anytime I am in a bad mood, I fire up this video because The Killers' joy watching Tony absolutely smash it will make even the grumpiest person smile. Tony, son, you are the best!
I was going to see my doctor to get antidepressants, but then I found this video and thought fuck it, I'll just watch this 4 times a day for the rest of my life ❤
I think Tony’s the best drummer of all the people they brought onstage in this tour. Not just the playing but the attitude. I watched this about 50 times already.
@@videoboygeorge - No offense Jorge but I don't think so. Jose's cymbal work was weak to non-existent at crucial points in the song. Not nearly as tight in the pocket and not nearly as powerful as Tony either. Objectively speaking, Tony is a far more talented and complete drummer. He plays cleaner, more in the pocket (which is everything) plays with much more power and conviction, great cymbal work, and had zero weak spots throughout the song. he nailed every drop, stop and break like a pro. He's very good, and fundamentally very sound, period. Jose completely dropped the cymbals on the main breakdown - which is a total amateur mistake that just stick out badly. When drummers like Jose make mistakes like that, (like forgetting where you are and what's going on, it's very distracting and mars a performance. Tony actually elevated the song with his power, energy, confidence and sheer talent and ability.
You bet! Totally killed it! My buddy, Mike got me hooked on them when I went to my first Killers concert with him and my wife last fall! Front and center on the main floor and they were awesome! They actually pulled a bass player for this song at the Milwaukee, Wisconsin concert that we went to.
The fact that Ronnie picked up a guitar and did back chorus tells you how good Tony was. Usually Ronnie stays near the drummer to help them to keep the tempo
I dont know what makes me smile more, that fact that Tony is awesome on Drums and smashes it out of the park or then entire bands reaction to Tonys awesome drumming! The just grin from ear to ear the whole song.
For a wiry young man he plays with power and IN the pocket like a fucking Boss! Just incredible - he played with confidence, joy and total abandon. The real deal. Best walk on drummer I've ever seen. He nailed the stops and didn't overdo the fills. A smashing once in a lifetime shot and he fucking nailed it. Kudos and mad respect for Tony.
What a moment for this Kid, played with unbridled joy to the adoration of the Glasgow crowd, I’ve seen all the videos on YT of the drummers plucked from the crowd, some good, bad & indifferent and this is the one I always return to.....Heartwarmingly Brilliant!
Tony is by far the best drummer called up from the audience. I've watch dozens of fan drummers playing Readons Unknown and no one comes close to the accuracy, strength and charisma as Tony! So cool to see how passionate Tony is about being up there living his dream😊
Something about watching someone live their dream, and seeing that exact moment come to life, that really feels good, hope for all of us to hit our dreams!
I think Mark Knopler once said from the day you publish a song its not yours anymore. Its living its own life. This is the best example to prove it. The kid owns it as much as Brandon does, everybody feels it on stage and in the audience and its 7 minutes of passion and beauty.
OMG HE WAS GREAT. I'm home alone in an otherwise quiet house, SHOUTING AND CHEERING for this guy Tony. Bet he's a helluva great dude IRL, you can see it in 'im.
This is what Rock and Roll is all about!! Anyone who goes to a show gets to share a moment with the artist and be a part of something. But this kid got the ULTIMATE moment. A day he will never forget. So amazing. Great job, young man. Keep rocking!
Absolutely, THEE BEST, fan drummer The Killers have had on stage so far!!! I've been a Killers fan since they were just starting to break out of L.V., and have seen almost all of their fan's playing attempts on stage...but only Tony's keep's me coming back for more, over & over again!!! Dude, that kid KILLED IT!!! I love this set sooo much!!! Seriously hope he gets the chance to really make it in the music biz., cuz that boy seems to have the talent, energy, & attitude I would love to see more of in music today! 😘🤩🤗🙌👍
I was at this gig on Glasgow Green and it was so epic. Tony lived the dream, man. Such a shame he is no longer with us but we'll always have this moment to remember him by. Respect, my brother. God bless you
There’s a guy asked Billy Joel if he could play piano on “A New York State of Mind” which is a complex and technically difficult piece to play. Billy agreed and invited him up. Needless to say the guy absolutely nailed it. So did Tony!
Wow! Epic performance from Tony, you knew he was gonna be good when Ronnie took a step back & could see this guy can clearly play drums, what a performance
Are you kidding us?! Especially he is not in time! His chaos kick drum and his speed changes are horrible! :D Look out for the guy on the concert in St. Louis if you want to see a really good one.
Awesome how the Killers take a risk like that. Beautiful job by Tony! The best fan ever. He goes on stage, gets to play drums, and doesn't overpower the rest of the band. He fit in perfectly. I really enjoy videos like this, thank you for sharing.
I saw the Killers on their first major tour in support of HF - in Michigan at their first show, and was hooked from the start. I have seen a lot of bands do the schtick with pulling fans onstage to play a part. Some were good, some were bad, some were downright embarrassing to watch. Tony, however - killed it. He looked natural and comfortable - it was as if he had spent his whole life preparing for this part. He shone, and no one has done a better job that I have seen to date. EDIT: Saw the backstory post, and saw that he had in fact been preparing for this. What a wonderful happy ending to a story in a world that has so much sadness in it right now. Now, I know this was a few years ago - but it is a gift that keeps on giving. Follow your dreams man!
Nice to see how much he enjoyed sitting on the drums and how he nailed it. A sympathetic young person who lives and loves his hobby! " May he find his way.
HOLY SH*T!!! 'KIN' HELL!!!!!! WHAT THE F*CK?!!!!! That was sooooooooo amazing!!!! I have never seen anything like this!!! WELL DONE TONY!!! That gave me goose bumpes and nearly made me cry! Tony must have had a time of his life! Sooooo great can speak highly enough for this act!!!!

i still dont know what the fans yell :(
It's a Scottish thing. They are saying 'Here we, here we, here we fucking go' 😁 a Scottish chant for good tunes.
It means we’re about to go mental to a good song! Don’t fuck it up!
I thought it is “ tony, tony, give me fucking tony”
Here we, here we, here we f**ckin’ go!! The clans used to chant this, before heading into England!
even Brandon did not know.
How lucky were The Killers to be able to play on the same stage as Tony?!?!
😂
Have to be scotch with a great sense of humour lol 😂
😂😂😂😂
Would have been such an honour for them

lovely story dreams can come true.
Love the back story to this! I always wondered its a pre-planned thing or not. It makes it so much better knowing it wasn't!
thanks Carols! Hope you'll meet your idol too someday!
you mean they didnt do a casting beforehand?
Billy Tony you knocked it out of the park.
Gotta love how Ronnie just casually picks up a guitar and does backing vocals.
He can do it when the drummer is good enough :D
Super talented band.
Ronnie is incredible!! He just picks up a guitar and does his thing... But, he goes to check on Tony once in awhile, just to make sure he's doing alright... Then grins like a proud dad!!
Tony played drums *again* with them at the 2019 Ottawa Bluesfest. Brandon told him “you look familiar!” Lol
I was there - he did a great job last night!
Apparently they didn't recognise him

I love how Ronnie just gives the thumbs up and walks off to grab a guitar at 2:33. He had faith in Tony as soon as that happened

So true.

The smiles of the band members says it all: holy shit this guy is good! awesome Tony!! great job!

He's good! But in my opinion, Jose Luis from Mexico was the best

I love the fact that their drummer just picks up a guitar to play along instead of standing off to the side once his place is taken by a fan.
Watching this for the first time with a huge grin... we are all Tony.
I'm Tony and my wife is Tony too
No, not many play drums that good.....
I want to screen shot your comment for all future scenarios where I can fondly think "we are all Tony" 👏
