The COMAND system can be a nightmare - it functions as a gateway, includes fiber optic lines, does a circuit Delta check every start. If anything is at fault the entire system can shut down. Difficult to diagnose.
But compare to the network systems on even a base 2024 vehicle - they all suck. Too much complexity.

Ivan, Here is the process to check Alcohol in the fuel content. Here are some steps for testing the alcohol content of gasoline using a graduated cylinder:
Put on gloves and safety glasses
    Have a fire extinguisher nearby
Fill a 100 mL graduated cylinder to the 10 mL mark with water
Carefully add gasoline to fill the rest of the cylinder
Shake the cylinder vigorously for about a minute
Place the cylinder in a safe place to let the water and alcohol settle
Divide the increase in water level by the fuel sample volume
Multiply the result by 100% to get the percentage of alcohol in the fuel . I would also reset the fuel trims. And there should be a Alcohol PID showing what the PCM is thinking is the Content percentage.

As soon as you said the radio wasn't working. I was screaming. Check the trunk for water lol. They actually have a bypass for the most system. It's basically a connector that you can bypass the fiber optic ring. I forget how much it was but it was like five bucks or something like that at the Mercedes dealer. I've had to do this a bunch of times mainly on S430 S500 2002 years, I had one where the CD changer was in the back on the left side. That was completely covered in water lol. I had to pull the body drain plug out to get all the water out. That one gotta bypass as well lol

If there is an open ring on the MOST network, usually the serial data goes from device 1 to the last device and if the next device on the ring doesn't talk then the last device will report an open ring. You can jump the ring network out and it should pass communication through the ring. I've seen this on GM's where the cd player would burn up and cause a open ring and device 2 which is usually the radio amplifier will report it being it was the last device on the network that was communicating. This is easy for the manufacturer to add and remove options pertaining to the infotainment system.

Brother, I am a South African loving the things you do and the advice you give. To the owner of the car, you should understand if you sell a car knowing it is not 100% tell the next owner the story even when you trade it in. You might not get as much for the deal but your soul will be clean and your next purchase will be a blessed deal. I have lived long enough to give witness to this and have personal experience. Others have done the opposite and things are still not going well for them. It is just money do not put a price on your soul and your integrity. The next guy will have no problem repairing and keeping this vehicle on the road. These things turn into priceless items. Scotty is right about some things but a little warped on others. You can never compare a Toyota to a German-built Mercedes, because the only thing is that they both have four wheels.

Erik O at South Main had a car that was not reading the % ethanol correctly. The car was thinking it had lots of ethanol, and was adjust the fuel trim rich to account for the necessary lower air / fuel ratio . If I recall pure ethanol has to be about 9 to 1, E85 % I think is 9.7 to 1 . This is significantly different than 14.7 to 1 for non ethanol. Erik was able to see on his scanner what the computer was using in the calculations, and it was acting as if it was E85. All he did was reset something while in diagnostic mode.

Some interesting info on fuel distribution: In any giving area, most of it, regardless of brand is coming from one regional distribution terminal. The refineries themselves are shipping 87 and 91, and their output all gets put in a pipeline and mixed with every other brands. So how are we getting 93? That's where the ethanol comes in. The Ethanol, and any brand specific detergents or additives, are added at the distribution terminal, at time of truck loading. They pull the trucks up under the rack with the ethanol and/or additives and it splash mixes enroute. 91, where it's available simply omits the ethanol addition.
Now, here's the thing. some scummy gas stations/chains or fuel supplies will 'double dip' under the ethanol rack, and try to sneak in 20%. Why? Because the ethanol is cheaper than gasoline. Had a friend who got a 20% ethanol mix being sold as 10% from a discount chain, and it made the vehicle throw a P0420 for Cat. Efficiency. post-Cat. o2 sensor was seeing too much oxygen still, from the 20% ethanol, making it think the Cat. wasn't doing it's job. Code went away and never returned after getting good gasoline.

Supposed to be E10 max, but smaller stations and chains buy their fuel from whomever, so 1 never knows what they're pumping. Years ago we had a slew of cars and vans that wouldn't start after a extreme cold snap overnight. Turns out the station mixed E85 in their reg no lead 87 tank. Point is, good known fuel is key. Imagine the rabbit hole you could've fallen into with smoke machines, swapping o2s, injector balance tests etc, just for poor fuel.

People think "high octane" fuel is "hotter" and the fact is the premium higher octane fuel actually burns slower on the flame front. A vehcile's octane requirement has to do with compression ratio and or boost. Turbo vehicle requires higher octane fuel.

Ethanol is hygroscopic, so it attract and bonds with water from the air.
This results in some sludge buildup. I would suggest to add an injector cleaner.

That's why I bought a Holden in Australia since the Chevy V8 engines that they bolted in are a lot cheaper to fix than the Mercedes-Benz AMG or BMW cars meaning that if you wanted to buy a 4 door sedan which actually has performance but are absolute money pits & the latest BMW which runs the twin turbocharged 4.4 litre V8 engine is an oil guzzler which is prone to catching on fire since both of the turbochargers are counted on top of the engine, they just get very hot.
I know that Daves Auto centre is rebuilding a Mercedes AMG engine which a Mercedes Benz dealer fitted with a new lower crankshaft bearing cradle because it was smashed up in a car accident,it is really meant to be purchased with the engine block since they're machined together as a matching set at the factory.
What happened is that the crankshaft seized up in the main bearing journals & he has to repair the crankshaft which is also cracked on the rear main bearing journal..
The dilemma is a whole new engine costs $65,000 USD from Mercedes Benz & he cannot source Just the engine block too easily because if he did the $18,000 USD engine block will be backordered because they have to actually manufacture an engine block for it in Germany.
He cannot just get another used AMG engine because the person whose the Mercedes Benz specialist has used engines which are all junk as well.
The dilemma that Dave has is with line boring & honing the 2 dissimilar halves because the bearing housings where the bearings sit is steel whereas the bottom half is a softer alloy steel.
I so much want Holden to come back to Australia,I don't see GM exporting the Cadillac CT5 to Australia in right hand drive form, they have been slack ever since 2017 when they stopped making Holdens in Australia, not the imported German built Opel Insignia that was rebadged as the Holden Commodore, that's not what I meant !

it's probably roof drains especially since that water is well still wet... Audi suffers this same BS. for Audi especially the Q7 the roof drains are designed by a well m0r0n. the down tubes at the top connect to a coupler that coupler has the down tube inserted INTO IT! and glued. over time the suns heat breaks down that glue. and if you understood what I just said... a coupler that has water traveling down in it attached not to the INSIDE of a down tube but to the OUTSIDE of the down tube, so when the glue breaks down the water trickles past the broken down glue and flows down the outside of the down tube and below the passenger down tube roof drain is well... your BOSE AMP, cell phone Module, Map CD, rear fuse box etc etc... so what usually happens first is the BOSE amp gets soaked over currents car shuts it down. but all the modules talk on a phyber line so your get an open loop and the whole multiemedia system goes offline. aka front screen. and then your front drains start flowing water down the outside of the down tubes and you get water in your front kick panels.... all because some m0r0n thought it was bad to funnel water down INTO tubes not onto them...
