This is for DCA, I saw in a video where you discuss strops. I was looking at that $50 strop that has 4 different leathers on it. I am not really sure, but I figure the type of leather makes a difference as well as the compound used. I have an edge pro system with grits down to 1000, and even polishing tapes with it. My question is, if I’m looking for a strop to finalize the sharpening, which strop would be best? I’m not sure I need the 4 different types of compound, just something to really refine that polished edge after sharpening, and even maybe do light touch up once or twice a week so I don’t have to get out the edge pro as often. Which strop is the least expensive that you carry that would have the finest leather.
Hi, I like the looks of the bench made bugout, I love the axis lock, however I am not a huge bench made fan because of them being overpriced on a majority of their products in my opinion, what are some comparable options of the bench made bugout with a axis lock?
My question is for all carbon steel knives, but specifically my Esee Avispa. I love this knife. For the money, it is the perfect EDC. I used it to cut the heads and tails off radishes in the garden recently, and it stained the blade. Is there some way to clean the SK-5 blade, or should I just embrace the fact that my knife looks like I use it? Thanks for the videos. They have taught me so much that I didn't know, that I didn't know.
I recently purchased the CJRB Scoria Flipper. It's nice and thin. I also appreciate the thickness of the Benchmade Bugout. What are some great thin knives in the $100-$200 price range? P.s. I also own the SOG Terminus of which I am quite fond.
David, could you briefly give an overview about the pros and cons of the Buck Paradigm and the Buck Onset as I cannot make my mind up on which one I should purchase. I plan on using the knife as and EDC. I currently carry the traditional Buck 112 but am interested in a flipper or assisted opening. Thanks
Enjoyed the variant answers. I wear an xl mechanic’s glove and am always trolling for sub 2.5 in blades that I can carry with no drama in federal facilities. I have a Civivi Odium and a SAK Tinker that fit that bill. But I have been considering the new Jesper from MKM…but…I think there might be other good options out there I am unaware of. I used to use a Gerber LST 500 from the early 90’s. The blade is heavily worn down from sharpening. I wish they still made those and offered it in a dark red…it was pretty close to perfection for me for many years. I’d even pay for custom if it could be resurrected.
Question, what would be your pick and the other gents and ladies pick for a good deployment knife be, I have a buddy that's goes to deploy overseas soon and he asked me what he should get. I thought I'd see all your thoughts on this as well. Folder and fixed. Mostly for utility use, but also something that can work for defense for last case scenario and also will stand out. Thanks
I have the Spyderco Street Beat and have found myself using it more and more for around-the-house tasks. Also good for EDC, I think. Really, an underrated knife, I think.
Have to agree with the other comments under me and say the civivi elementum boker atlas or the victorinox with the nice silver aluminum handles would make great groomsmen gifts. Personally would love a any knife with some brass scales just so that I can enjoy the nice patina it will have throughout time.
I know its obviously MUCH more expensive than DCA's suggestions, but my best man and I carried Spyderco Spyopera's that i purchased for us. Lionsteel has the Bestman of course, but their colab with Spyderco really spoke to me as a special and classy choice, that was just as useful as an EDC piece
I think some Boker or Case traditional knives would be fitting for groomsmen at a wedding as you can get some nice bone handles and easy to sharpen steel especially since they’re not quite knife people yet. I think maybe something along the lines of a pen knife or congress would work well for the occasion and day to day use
I was thinking the same, plus you don’t have to get them all the same knife, you can try to personalize by getting them either the same knife with different handles, or getting them all different knife designs with the same handles. Which case is known for having both!
AR-RPM9 isn't as good as it's supposed to be until CJRB learns to heat treat it. The two I've come across are softer than 9Cr18MoV which is what the RPM9 is made from.
Why was the Liong Mah KUF not mentioned in the kitchen folders section? I also have a Cherburkov Kasataka and I absolutely LOVE using that thing in the kitchen. It's so damn thin behind the edge and cuts so well you forget it's a pocket knife

Hey DCA, are you folks at KnifeCenter aware that Cold Steel's SR1 Lite knives are now 8cr14mov instead of 8cr13mov? Any major differences between the steels?
For a cheaper Spydie Chef, consider the Kershaw Tumbler. Hear me out! It's got belly for days and the handle angle provides plenty of knuckle-clearance on a shopping board. It has a high, but not quite full, flat grind - but the blade steel is also very thin. It's slicey! There are some things that work against it - D2 steel is only semi-stainless, for example. It also has bearings, when washers would be better for cleanup. The backspacer also covers 4/5ths of the handle, meaning it's pretty closed off - also making it tougher to clean. Nevertheless, it's geometry performs well for food prep and it's WAY cheaper. I picked one up in Canada for about $75 - the Spydie Chef is $440 here. For that price difference I'll just be careful not to get food pushed into the handle and I'll dry the blade when I'm done.

Hogue Deka. Hands down. Quality build with great blade steel, G10 with liners, feels like a bit stiffer spring for the lock too and it’s priced right.
SOG Terminus XR
@@raylaylin4229 I almost added it but I have yet to handle one, so I couldn’t.
Thanks
Looks who's back..like a boss 😁🤘🏻
Loved this video,,,. So many affordable knives...and such good looking and usefule styles. Thank you so much David.
Try the SOG Stout FLK
@@gabrielbaker2667 I just bought the Fox Suru with the textured carbon fiber in N690
Carried a Street Bowie for a year strait. Was a easy edc on my belt.
Hi DCA. Some suggestions for folders for lefties., with tip up carry in the left pocket.
I would also choose the Artisan Cutlery Small Archaeo in Pakkawood/Damascus. Really sharp gentlemans knife!
You've sold ne on the Scoria! Nothing to do with weddings, but I'm sold anyways.
When it comes to budget steels, I find that Artisan's RPM9 is hard to beat. Sharpens fairly easily. Good edge retention
Rat!!!
Because it was in the original video that this segment was expanding on. You can see it here: ruclips.net/video/ll_YhMhpGRU/видео.html
Hello David, two great knives to my knowledge you have never reviewed. First bark river mini kephart great edc fixed blade. Excellent for food prep. My second pick that never leaves my pocket is victorinox executive. I watch a good portion of your reviews, maybe you could include these 2 one day. Thanking you in advance.
Really enjoyed your idea to dip from a different well
I went with the Leek because it was easy to engrave.
Kitchen Use? LC200N steel, no rust. The Spyderco Pacific Salt, for example.
I use the Spyderco Snowy River? I think it’s called? It really is great for food prep. Slices and dices so easily , even finely slicing garlic. It comes with a decent sheath and all for about £35. Good luck with it.
Hey DCA,what type of oil would you recomend for long- ish, term storage.ex.camp knife between trips. Trying to keep the ever persistant rust off my high carbon knives.thanks
What do you think about the boker plus little dvalin tanto d2 fixed blade knife?
Hey DCA, I am looking to upgrade my outdoor/survival knife, I currently have the Ontario Blackbird SK-5. The Bradford Guardian line has caught my eye, would love your opinion on those knives, I am looking at either the 4.5 or the 5.5. Thanks!
I'm think of making some kitchen knives for Christmas presents, have pretty basic tool, ( some power tools, & some torches,) & was looking for some low corrosion steel suggestions.
Hey, DCA...Kershaw Bareknuckle can be gotten on sale for under 100$ with a 20CV blade. How''s that for value?
why do you say corrosion resistance aided by the stonewash? as i understand it, a mirror polish aids in corrosion resistance, and stonewashing increases porousness making it more prone to corrosion.
You are thinking of bead blasted. Stonewashing is more like a randomized polishing. -DCA
@@knifecenter wow, i knew you couldn't have been mistaken, oh great God of Internet Knife Knowledge Minutiae, Weeds and Shrubbery. Thanks for correcting the record.
Which flipper would make a good bushcraft knife
I gave each of my groomsmen a leatherman multitool. A nice SAK would also be a good gift idea.
Hey DCA, when you answered the sand & salt resistance question, my mind was immediately going "fixed blade". So... If you couldn't carry a folder, which fixed blades would you look at for EDC besides that Spyderco Bowie, and which sheath/carry options? Thanks!
The CKRT Crossbones was my first thought for a groomsman gift as well, but probably because Seth was pushing the expensive models yesterday or so. I bet Elementum would work as well.
Hey DCA at what price point do you go from getting better quality to paying for more customization?
I realize that there is a difference and have read as much but as far as for me the end user, is there any noticeable difference between CPM154 and 154CM?
Ive never had a D2 knife that held an edge worth any amount of money i paid for it. Plus getting it back to where it was befor i started is next to impossible.
I prefer 440c, 420 HC, 12c27n, 12c28n or 9Cr14Mov in the "budget steels". D2 blows.
I'm sure you did neck knives before but I just got the crkt keramin and carry it every day I also sometimes wear my crkt obake but could you show a couple of your top choices for neck knives price don't matter
Congrats to grooms man. That one knife if made by a RUclipsr I believe that’s cool stuff.shout out to her.Great budget knife. Always great knives at knife center. Cjrb is nice. In another dca video civivi had a really nice maroon one with tweezers pretty cool. Both companies do good ones. Have a good day to all.
Have you guys done a video specifically on staff favorite Knifecenter exclusive models and accessories for both discontinued and currently available options?
Hey DCA, I'm looking for a new knife for cleaning ducks and walleye but something with more of a custom feel. Currently use a bubba blade but want something a little more special. Thanks!
Hi guys,i got a hard use knife, which has worn off the nice black finish, and i would like to re blacken it. How do i get that clean ( hopefully rust resistant ) finish back? Thanks for all your efforts guys, keep up the great work.
Also food safe...thanks
how to show have a question I have a couple of Kalashnikovs automatics the screws are the same color as the hardware when I tighten them The paint chips off The screw I was wondering if they make a tool that will not do this thank you
Thanks for thinking outside the box. Especially with the cjrb compared to the dragonfly. I like Spyderco but always thought the dragonfly to be overpriced.
Hey DCA, here is a like even before you started!
What makes a knife custom, or half custom, and factory?
Hey DCA and/or Seth, I recently got knife envy from my office mate when he whipped out his new Benchmade Claymore. Wonderful timing that Seth had just posted the new SOG-TAC AU Auto had released. Short-story short: I bought it, but we would wondering what are the differences in his "CPM-D2" and my "Cyro D2"? Many thanks to you and your team.
Just bought my groomsmen the CJRB Ria with carbon fiber scales
Thank god DCA is BACK!
I'm surprised you didn't mention the Kaparra for food prep.
Question: I have an Esee 5 which is a great bruiser of a knife, but I want a companion knife for more delicate uses. I'd like it to fit on the loop on the front of the Esee acessory pouch attached to the sheath (maybe using the belt clip to secure it ... so probably not deep carry in that case so the flap of the acessory pouch holds it in better). I could see opening it up to some sort of multi-tool but the blade is my primary concern. Price range up to $200.
Any recommendations?
Thanks
Hey DCA, you've had the Revo Ness in a couple of videos recently. Do they make something similar with a left hand option?
Tops Camp Creek 😉
@@tonycanniffe2360 thank you!
@@joshmiller4466 I was being a bit of a smart arse bc it’s not a folder. It’s a great blade though. We pay through the 👃 here in Oz but that one is totally worth it.
Hey DCA, I'm looking for a great smaller kitchen knife block set (between $100-$300) that only has the essentials. I would love a Japanese style but I'm open to anything.
4:47 no price given?
I'd like to know which kock type wears the least over time.
The blood kock
For the Zookeeper - you may also consider a horseman's/equestrian knife. I would think many of the older knife brands like Case make them.
Hey DCA, if you could give 1 budget knife a super steel upgrade which knife would you choose?
Hell yeah he's back!
Knives for small hands/small pockets easy open. My wife really enjoys her autos. She has and likes her kershaw launch 4, really loves her boker kalashnikov mini, (the other channels exclusive donut knife) and a teal OTF mini from a semi local off brand company called infinity. All small easy open and flashy colors.
Pretty awesome! I carry a rat model 2 in d2
I live near Fredericksburg VA. Does knife center have a store front I can buy knives from?
No.
You can call ahead and order something for pickup, but we are not set up for browsing at this time.
Maybe I’m weird but I’ve always been concerned about using coated blades like PVD for food prep.
Hey David, great FAQ as always. I was wondering if you had suggestions for your favorite tip down carry edc folding knives and any crossdraw edc fixed blade knives? The crossdraw have been especially tricky for me to come across. I am in Texas so no restrictions.
Yes, with D2 you can get most cuts per dollar, after that comes K390 and ZDP-189
really appreciate the next options.
Well Done DCA !
The CJRB was a good choice but you missed the boat on groomsman knives when you present Civivi Pintail or Elementum.
Hi DCA and the KC team! (That means you Thomas, and Seth if he is participating) Got a doosey for you, I am seeking a folding knife recommendation for my wife. Here are the goals.
1. LOWER than average FORCE to OPEN and CLOSE, NO FLICK actuation REQUIRED.
2. ASSISTED opening.
3. ONE HAND operable and out of blade path during closure.
3. Control more from GROOVES and SWELLING than sheer texture, LOWER than average TEXTURE.
4. Blade length 3 inches or less.
5. Price $100 or less, feel free to throw in a more expensive option as well if you feel it will fit better. Would rather buy one that she loves and keeps forever.
If you choose this question, thank you in advance the thoughtful response.
DCA, love the show and the great content! My question is, is that I am looking into buying the "SIG EX-02 Flipper" in any of the styles. However, I haven't seen much info on this knife. What are your thoughts? And would it make a good EDC knife? Thanks!
Hey David, I love the show! Which steel is best for etching at home? Keep it up!! Greetings, Tom
Really good episode good information 👍
I really like the swordfish blade profile and the overall looks. Especially with the S 35 blade steel. Do they make one or is there a similar knife with a cross bar lock like Benchmade? I just personally do not like liner locks or frame locks. You’re doing a really great job on the videos I really enjoy watching them
