Tbh, the _one_ thing I agree with for the stuff with monetization is the _prices_ for skins and that most of the battlepass is junk. Focusing on the former, if they just halve the prices for all of that stuff, it'd be perfect. Even just toning back by twenty-five percent. Reason simply being that while it is the default in most games, most games _at least_ let you build up some extra currency _along with_ enough to buy another pass. Even if you're maxing out passes every other season, you're getting another 40 coins versus the 1900 you need for _one skin._
The skin gatekeeping goes back to world of warcraft with the blizzard fan base. The 2 examples I can think of are the mighty caravan burtosaur and the swift zulian tiger. When available, people didnt put as much effort into them as they could. And once it was announced they were being removed, the camping of zg and mat farming for gold became the norm. They just want to feel special, that they have shown a level of tenacity almost as if their worth irl and their level of commitment in that game are intertwined. As someone who has 300+ days played on their wow account I understand getting the warm and fuzzies because someone stops and gets into a good position near you to take a ss or even message you to show their excitement on seeing it. That being said, the part that's lost on most is years later, they will just add in more and more and with that, your "prestigious" achievements become "worth" less and less to the community. Dropping 26 kills with 3 deaths in a game gets people the attention they seek from that exclusive cosmetic stuff, yet they don't seem to want to grind and break their personal skill ceiling. They just want to be able to grind quick play during a 1 week event and think they are "the chosen one" while they run in and die over and over, screaming into the mic or giving a wall the stare down while they type "WHERE TF IS MY TEAM?!!!!!!" Old saying we used when we were doing mythic raids and a rando fill in would start to tell guild members why we were wrong and they were right is "Everyone is an expert in the class they arent playing." If anything, put it behind a grindy but forever obtainable achievement. Survive 10 bonus rounds on junkensteins revenge with no damage to the door and you get a crispy, just absolutely s tier skin. Then put that event in the arcade. Grind it to your hearts desire. Cant do it? Get good.
Wait wait wait Did he really say 2 characters from starcraft that dress the exact same way in that game but one is a brunette and the other is a blonde is just a reskin? It's literally not Overwatch team's fault that the adaptations are faithful.
That sounds so dumb. My brother plays OW2 pretty casually like once a week, and he absolutely loves the OW1 D.VA skin over the OW2 skin. It's such a weird thing to gatekeep, especially since it's not like OW1 players would actually use those skins if they were "exclusive"
Blizzard didn't ruin the legacy of Statcraft by giving out the Kerrigan skin and creating a tycus skin....they ruined the legacy of starcraft by abandoning starcraft
I don’t care about them offering past skins again. That’s never bothered me. The price of skins is where I take issue. $19 for a legendary skin? Something that you as the purchaser only ever sees a minimal amount of unless you emote.
OVERWATCH 2 PLAYERS here are some fun facts you need to know 1 you can get gold points for free 2 if you play competitive you can get jade points free 3 you can get white points free 4 you don’t have to buy skins at all and you will get skins from just playing because of the battle pass 5 $20 dollars for exclusive skins is pretty cheap when there are knife skins that cost over 100 dollars and cosmetics that cost over 200 dollars
I'm diamond and have trouble shooting jumpy Baps because it always catches me off guard. People doing stupid shit distracts me and I find it harder to aim because of it lmao.
Look I completely disagree with that last Tiktok about the skins, but Flats sort of contradicted himself there. He said its okay for a skin to be exclusive limited time only, but then defended the blizzcon recolor by saying 'it gives people another chance to get it, what if you didnt play ow back then, are you just screwed?' You can't really have it both ways. Personally, I think it's great that they bring back old rare skins, bc the community has changed so much and theres so many new players
On the exclusive skins like the Blizzcon skins, my take is that they should be brought back to be available for everyone. Maybe with small changes, like maybe taking the widow decal off the shoulder for the Tychus Reinhardt skin. I don't like the oh let's make it into a different character from the same game apporach (i dont think of these as recolors, even if they technically are.). Dont get me wrong, i love some (most of them actually) of the reskins better than the original blizzcon version, but i also think the blizzcon skins should come back as well.
8:39 That guy's entire point is "I want more exclusivity so my E-peen seems bigger than it actually is." But for me the worst part about the Kerrigan widow skin is that I really want it, but the only times it was available was: 1. When it was originally given out through the gift center.... that never worked for me. I'd just see the icon that there is a new gift, I'd click on it and it'd load indefinitely, so i never got it from that original event. 2., During the IMO worst meta in overwatch2. Mauga meta was so incredibly boring i actually quit the game until they patched it. And because i didnt want to play i completely missed out on the christmas event where it was given out, i just came and saw it in the shop, but you could no longer earn the tokens for it.
The last tiktok specfically about the skins, I can see flats and the person complaining point of view. The thing with Exclusive skins or atleast Limited skins is that you were rewarded for being around at the time Its like hey you came to these very special events or hey you did this and this and this, here is a reward that never comes back. Thats where the gate keeping comes to play because it feels like a slap in the face to the people that went to those special events or grinded/bought to get those limited skins (depending on which game we're talking about because its different for each game). That being said you want newer players to have something they didn't know or didn't have the oppotunity to get something that while similar to the old versions was enticing enough. TL:DR some older players can/do feel disrespected and wasted effort/money for the limited/exclusive skins, just for them to come back as a recolor and possibly looking better (Which is subjective depending on person to person)
I would love more animated motion based victory poses. Think of the humor and characterization you could do with them let alone give reason to par them in bundles with a new shop or battle pass skin. I can totally see a junkrat blasting himself onto screen in a slumped chard heap.
Rgat Scarcroft skin was literally an excuse to fancy dress with a bunch of people for a few days and that's it. The amount of value he places on that tells me inflation is far worse than I thought
I do wish OW goes the way Apex went with skins where you can buy the skin eventually gets added to the pool of skins for a premium of base skins. So if Christmas Mercy becomes always available, make it cost 2k tokens instead of the 1.5k/1k OH ALSO I WANNA BUY ALL OF THE TEAMS MERCY SKINS LIKE GLADS, ROYAL KNIGHT AND ATLANTIC ALL STARS PLEASSSEEEE. It doesn't make much sense for them to not be in the token shop. But I guess that OWL is not here anymore no more those skins
after the starcraft 2 anniversary they announced they were ending it no more starcraft 2 content but even to this day the coop of sc2 still has a good amount of people playing it and talking about the weirdest stuff on coop chat like food, politics, current events such as games to this day which is why im so upset of overwatch2 not having its progression pve
I agree with the if I had to spend money on a one time skin it should stay one time skin, and I'm glad they are releasing recolors of skins some original colors kinda suck. HOWEVER if they ever try to rerelease my widowmaker noire pre-order skin I will throw hands
It's pretty disingenuous to say it's "gatekeeping" skins. Recolors are lame and lazy. Period. Execs aren't telling devs to do that. People spent $40 (the price of OW) on a skin they were told was unique. People like flaunting exclusive skins. That's the point.
The recoloring of skins is def an issue it without a doubt shows a lack of interest and or dedication tothe game from the devs in the department compared to way back when. It’s honestly just goofy there’s never a good skin that comes out anymore unless it’s bsttlepass exclusive aka mythic
7:02 sorry but this is such a nothing Burger argument. Actions Speak Louder than words. And yeah the Devs seem Passionate and want to make good Changes, but thats not Reflected on the current state of the game.
the only skins i will ever gatekeep are the old florida mayhem mcdonalds skins no one should be able to get those again i have 2 of them and they are my prized possessions
I honestly forgot what I was going to comment at first because of how much I agree that complaining about a bunch of so-called BlizzCon skins is just ridiculous and a waste of time I'm not saying they don't exist but rather agreeing that they aren't that unique in terms of creativity like whatever that Reinhart look-alike was supposed to be was definitely not worth it to me because I didn't even try to get it cuz I don't care now that black one does look nice but I think the main reason they even had to remake a whole new OverWatch was so that they can program it to follow the same pattern as every other online multiplayer in today's industry which is that they keep getting more creative they keep getting more interactive they keep getting more and more flashy in general because of everyone trying to constantly retain Their audience by making new shiny Cosmetics for everyone to buy so realistically they're supposed to only get even better than they are right now but I wouldn't be surprised if they followed Apex Legends and just kept reskinning their own highest tier skins plenty of people have already pointed out how they recolor a lot of skins from the previous game in general but now that someone in a AAA sense has officially resold their 100- tear battle pass skins there's no telling who else could follow in that same marketing pattern
I personally cannot agree more that getting skins, and other stuff, has become so much less fun. Though I think that the guy made bis point extremely annoyingly and is making a flawrd argumeThe battle pass stuff is cool but everyone will be getting the same things and even if the loot boxes were not fair and made it very hard to get the skin you want, it gave everyone their own personal looks and voices and sprays.
I disagree. Not everyone buys every battle pass, or uses the same cosmetics. Personally I’d much rather have a BP I can choose to buy and know what I’m getting rather than open loot boxes and repeatedly get commons or repeats
@Daonlymilkman I'm not saying it's a healthier system,I'm saying this from the perspective of those commons and stuff. Like you get more sprays and voice lines to distinguish yourself from others. and paying ten dollars for a skin is just awful, and idk if there is any other way to get legenderies skins other than paying, I barely understand the two currency systems.
@@alexknight81 probably, but I haven't paid ten dollars for overwatch bucks just for a single skin, but I have bought lootboxes in the past. You could also get free boxes from the game and game pass quests which always felt nice.
Thanks for watching my video at the end even if ya didn't agree. the monetization in this game is awful, these skins should be viewable and earnable through credits. (which is why i showed the subaquatic zenyatta skin) I def think the way the team or whoever's in charge of the shop monetizes the game horribly and seeing people defend it is sad. if YOU don't think the skins have any value that's fine, but collecting skins was one of the 3 ways to actually show progress in OW1. (rank and rank rewards, borders and skins) legacy skins that never had a price tag associated with them and were EARNED through gameplay are now locked in the shop for $10 for a limited time and then they're gone until who knows when? recolors constantly hitting the shop for $10- $20 is inherently gross. at least in OW1 there was a gameplay path to the shiny and new skins, in OW2 there just isn't. if something you like is in the shop the only way to obtain it is to do weeklies for like 8 months and the skin will be gone by then or pull out that wallet. that sucks. I def go into more details about why i think the monetization is bad and more than just annoying in some of my other videos. thanks for reacting.
Flats doesn’t care about monetization because he has enough money to pay for whatever he wants, methinks. of course I’d find talk about something that doesn’t affect me boring while I sit at my expensive gaming chair and generate a slight gravitational pull.
Its pretty easy to say "these developers are lazy" but i mean yeah, they're being told to recolor shit and shovel it into the shop. I think that is incredibly lazy content they're making and marketing.

Cant do it? Get good.
Last dude is probably scared cuz his pink mercy skin is probably gonna get a recolor and not be "rArE" anymore lmfao
Wait wait wait
Did he really say 2 characters from starcraft that dress the exact same way in that game but one is a brunette and the other is a blonde is just a reskin? It's literally not Overwatch team's fault that the adaptations are faithful.
Saw a recent post from OWAnonymous on Twitter where someone wanted to gatekeep OW1 default skins for OW1 players only
I saw that too, I was like "there's no way" 💀
That sounds so dumb. My brother plays OW2 pretty casually like once a week, and he absolutely loves the OW1 D.VA skin over the OW2 skin. It's such a weird thing to gatekeep, especially since it's not like OW1 players would actually use those skins if they were "exclusive"
Flats I don't need tiktoks to do that, my mom does.
If only hackers were all cool like that guy, they want to have fun with everyone instead of themselves.
Something that you as the purchaser only ever sees a minimal amount of unless you emote.
all of like the 8:30 to 13:00 was just
Sir yappsalot and his idea of gatekeeping not ruining the health of the game.
5:04 I feel called out because I am gold but I’m fine being gold
OVERWATCH 2 PLAYERS here are some fun facts you need to know
1 you can get gold points for free
2 if you play competitive you can get jade points free
3 you can get white points free
4 you don’t have to buy skins at all and you will get skins from just playing because of the battle pass
5 $20 dollars for exclusive skins is pretty cheap when there are knife skins that cost over 100 dollars and cosmetics that cost over 200 dollars
There is no way you're defending the monetization system "skull emoji"
I'm diamond and have trouble shooting jumpy Baps because it always catches me off guard. People doing stupid shit distracts me and I find it harder to aim because of it lmao.
5:03 I will have you know I am Silver, I'll need more than good advice.
Flats doesn’t care about monetization bc it doesn’t affect them lol
On the exclusive skins like the Blizzcon skins, my take is that they should be brought back to be available for everyone. Maybe with small changes, like maybe taking the widow decal off the shoulder for the Tychus Reinhardt skin. I don't like the oh let's make it into a different character from the same game apporach (i dont think of these as recolors, even if they technically are.). Dont get me wrong, i love some (most of them actually) of the reskins better than the original blizzcon version, but i also think the blizzcon skins should come back as well.
8:39 That guy's entire point is "I want more exclusivity so my E-peen seems bigger than it actually is."
But for me the worst part about the Kerrigan widow skin is that I really want it, but the only times it was available was:
Flats, did u see the owl skin leaks? Where u can buy them now. Like the royal gladiator mercy
Calling card rein skin, but lil bros an orisa main now
I do wish OW goes the way Apex went with skins where you can buy the skin eventually gets added to the pool of skins for a premium of base skins. So if Christmas Mercy becomes always available, make it cost 2k tokens instead of the 1.5k/1k
OH ALSO I WANNA BUY ALL OF THE TEAMS MERCY SKINS LIKE GLADS, ROYAL KNIGHT AND ATLANTIC ALL STARS PLEASSSEEEE. It doesn't make much sense for them to not be in the token shop. But I guess that OWL is not here anymore no more those skins
10:27 literally just bring lootboxes back and people will shut up about it lmao
after the starcraft 2 anniversary they announced they were ending it no more starcraft 2 content but even to this day the coop of sc2 still has a good amount of people playing it and talking about the weirdest stuff on coop chat like food, politics, current events such as games to this day which is why im so upset of overwatch2 not having its progression pve
I agree with the if I had to spend money on a one time skin it should stay one time skin, and I'm glad they are releasing recolors of skins some original colors kinda suck. HOWEVER if they ever try to rerelease my widowmaker noire pre-order skin I will throw hands
Everlong was in the first tiktok? Thats dmca though righr?
Overwatch 2 TikTok’s that make you want to Throw games
It's pretty disingenuous to say it's "gatekeeping" skins. Recolors are lame and lazy. Period. Execs aren't telling devs to do that. People spent $40 (the price of OW) on a skin they were told was unique. People like flaunting exclusive skins. That's the point.
The recoloring of skins is def an issue it without a doubt shows a lack of interest and or dedication tothe game from the devs in the department compared to way back when. It’s honestly just goofy there’s never a good skin that comes out anymore unless it’s bsttlepass exclusive aka mythic
Ashe keeps getting highlight intros in battle passes when their new characters need skins badly so what’s with that ow 😂
7:02 sorry but this is such a nothing Burger argument.
Actions Speak Louder than words.
And yeah the Devs seem Passionate and want to make good Changes, but thats not Reflected on the current state of the game.
Quick question why when I ranked in tank and support I got silver 4 and silver 3 but I got gold 5 in dps when I ranked but I lost more games as dps.
the only skins i will ever gatekeep are the old florida mayhem mcdonalds skins no one should be able to get those again i have 2 of them and they are my prized possessions
5:04 bro please put a breaking the fourth wall warning in the video holy smokes
I personally cannot agree more that getting skins, and other stuff, has become so much less fun. Though I think that the guy made bis point extremely annoyingly and is making a flawrd argumeThe battle pass stuff is cool but everyone will be getting the same things and even if the loot boxes were not fair and made it very hard to get the skin you want, it gave everyone their own personal looks and voices and sprays.
Isnt that more so because you could just get the loot boxes for free tho?
@@smollmoth6376 10 dollars is very cheap tho the the items you can buy dont affect the game in any way
Thanks for watching my video at the end even if ya didn't agree.
the monetization in this game is awful, these skins should be viewable and earnable through credits. (which is why i showed the subaquatic zenyatta skin)
I def think the way the team or whoever's in charge of the shop monetizes the game horribly and seeing people defend it is sad. if YOU don't think the skins have any value that's fine,
but collecting skins was one of the 3 ways to actually show progress in OW1. (rank and rank rewards, borders and skins)
legacy skins that never had a price tag associated with them and were EARNED through gameplay are now locked in the shop for $10 for a limited time and then they're gone until who knows when? recolors constantly hitting the shop for $10- $20 is inherently gross.
at least in OW1 there was a gameplay path to the shiny and new skins, in OW2 there just isn't. if something you like is in the shop the only way to obtain it is to do weeklies for like 8 months and the skin will be gone by then or pull out that wallet. that sucks.
I def go into more details about why i think the monetization is bad and more than just annoying in some of my other videos. thanks for reacting.
I wish we get to change the colors of all skins.
7:25 I judge based on their actions, doesn’t really matter if your “passionate” about the game if your doing what they are.
NOT THE HOMEMADE COOKIES!!!!!
I was watching this while i was making cookies and i burned them. They tasted better tho so thanks
Flats doesn’t care about monetization because he has enough money to pay for whatever he wants, methinks.
of course I’d find talk about something that doesn’t affect me boring while I sit at my expensive gaming chair and generate a slight gravitational pull.
garbage take

I wish re-colors would be cheaper if you own the original skin or one of the skin's variation.
What da dog doin?
cowboy bebop collab comes out tomorrow
I got the Kerrigan widow skin in 2018 and this is the first time I learned that it was for starcraft. Gatekeepers are so dumb
7:40 Not good enough money to not fire the entire PvE team…
Its pretty easy to say "these developers are lazy" but i mean yeah, they're being told to recolor shit and shovel it into the shop. I think that is incredibly lazy content they're making and marketing.
@@Yeshalot It’s lazy shit they’re being forced to make.*
Gold stuck player here. That look too was personal 😭💀
Idk, I feel like “annoying” is valid. 7 second sleep on a 7 second cool down? Annoying. 30% extra damage purple orb of death? Annoying.
I kinda feel like there’s some things that saying that is very valid lmao
I swear to god I’ve seen the last creator complain about free skins being good, free skins being bad, paid skins looking good and paid skins looking bad
