I think it's one of Pink Floyd's most underrated albums. For me, listening packs a huge psychological punch, every time. Glad to see you react in a similar way.

I cannot begin to guess how many thousands of times I listened to this whole album (vinyl and cd versions) since I bought it when it came out. My versions are old enough to not have When the Tigers Broke Free. This does not get old.

In my opinion, there are two ways to listen to Pink Floyd, or any music with lyrics for that matter. One, to listen to the music with the lyrics adding to that and just gloss over the words and meaning. The other is to hear the music, and either listen to or read if you can't catch the lyrics and analyze what the meaning of the song, or your interpretation of the meaning if it is not clearly presented. Your video here had lyrics that were understandable for the most part and not much music to distract anyone from those lyrics. I think that is why it prompts emotions because there is not much else to keep you from feeling the lyrics. Reading the lyrics, one can see how intelligent they writer was when they told the story using the words they chose. Most of Pink Floyd songs contain very well written lyrics that apart from the music can stand on their own. They make you think, they make you feel, they pull emotions out of you. This is why I love Pink Floyd so much, because their music is so complex in some of their songs, and because the lyrics have substance. I enjoyed your reaction very much, I saw you feel the song and the lyrics, and that's what it's all about. Thank you for your efforts making these videos.

If I showed you my dark side, would you still hold me tonight. And if I opened my heart to you, show you my weak side what would you do. Beautiful and heart breaking poetry. What music these guys produced. I have loved them for 36 years, and the awe just grows as time passes.

This album is epicness defined. May I break it down, how I see it in my mind? to start, this song is a fragment of an entire image being painted before you. Let us step back and take a wide look...The album is based on a man who went to war, saw bad things at war, and was luck to make it home to the love he left behind. But he was not the same man. So she left him. Upon returning from the war the only job he, a hero, could find was a job teaching a class of bad dis respectable kids with no recourse to their actions and whining. Alone, he reflects on his life, how war destroyed his lift. How he lost everything being a hero....So he looks to take his own life....but he never had the nerve to make the final cut....He soon realizes, F*ck all that we got to get on with this....from there the album take a shift in time and we fast forward a bit. As he is driving on the highway one day, he is looking in his rear view mirror, the sun is going down...he thinks of all the good thing left undone...and he envisions where humanity is headed....someday someone will push the button in anger and we have a nuclear ending showing the human race is run...two suns in the sunset...We were all equal, in the end....
Check out that last song on this album song...TWO SUNS IN THE SUNSET
    EPICNESS

I know this material really weighed heavily on your heart, and that was absolutely Roger's intention; to "tear the curtain down" and "bare his naked feelings" about the absurdity and wastefulness of war. The specific conflict in question was the Falklands War wherein Maggie Thatcher sent young British men to die over an insignificant group of islands off the coast of Argentina that the locals wanted back. A lot of the album really is that specific, and that's partly why David felt Roger's unchallenged leadership was robbing the band of its universal appeal. I will leave it to others to debate right/wrong 'cause I love it for what it is. Hope you will dive back into the rest of it at some point. Thanks for 3 (now 2) wonderful reactions!

    re: Southampton Dock
Yes, Southampton was were the ships (requisitioned ocean liners) carrying the troops to reclaim the Falkland Island (which were invaded and seized by Argentina) departed from in April and May 1982, although many of the Royal Navy's combat vessels departed from their nearby bases in Devonport and Portsmouth.

I"ve loved loved Pink Flyod from Pipers to this album. It was Roger Waters last album with the band. It was really a solo album, Nick did the drums, David Gilmor contributideted about 5 minutes of giutar. The rest was all Roger on every instrument. Plus all lyrics are his. Love that you coverd this song, South Hampton Dock is one of my favourites.

Back in 1978 Roger Waters had two concepts albums which he presented to the other PF band members. The first was The Wall. The second was called the 'Pro's and Con's of Hitchhiking'. The band felt that The Wall was a more complete and advanced concept so they decided to work on this project. However there was more material for The Wall album which did not fit either the length of the album or the narrative. These left over songs were to be released as an additional album under the working title of "More Bricks'. With the start of the Falklands War, these songs were further developed into the album 'The Final Cut'. The material for 'Pro's and Con's of Hitchhiking' became Roger Waters second solo album (after The Body (1970), well third if you count his half-side contrubition on When the Wind Blows movie soundtrack). If you liked the Final Cut then Pro's and Con's is worth a listen. As a long time listener to the magic of Floyd, I have a soft spot for Roger's solo albums with Radio K.A.O.S and Amused to Death being his best. Amused to Death is well worth a listen and, like The Wall, needs to be heard in a single sitting, although I doubt that you coud do a reaction vides as there none currently on YT. I assume they get pullled down quickly.
I have watched many of you vidoes and enjoying your reactions to this band!

Thanks for doing some of "The Final Cut". I think, one of the bands mostly overlooked album. Like all their album's with Roger Waters doing the bulk of the writing, they all have that certain "feel". The Final Cut being the album that would turn out to be the last with the four of them. You should think about doing the whole album reaction. I think you would be pleased with it, and I know I would enjoy it. Keep up the great job!!

Actually, it was the last time the three of them recorded together.
Richard was fired during the Wall sessions. While he did tour the Wall shows, it was as a paid session player. Rick does not appear on The Final Cut.

  • @number1sun

This album is often forgotten about because it came out as the band was falling apart and it ended up being cobbled together from leftover tracks from "the Wall" with some new tracks mixed in. That being said this oft overlooked album has some really emotionally hard hitting beautiful pieces! Roger went on to make a couple solo albums after...in fact the first show I ever went to as a 14 year old was seeing Roger Waters on his Radio Kaos tour and it blew my mind to say the least.
