- "See You In September" was originally recorded by the Tempos in 1959. Here the Happenings lip-synch for the TV show, "Where The Action Is." The group is on Lake Calhoun in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Happy September 1st!
This was my hubby's and my song...he was heading to Vietnam in September, and would return the following September...everytime we hear that song it reminds us of that long year! Played it at our 50th anniversary party!! He left September 1966...returned September 1967...still here with me!!
Wow, got me in tears, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!
That is nice
😢 Thank you both
God Bless you guys. A few years later I was opening the Saturday edition of our local Jersey paper looking for my lottery number to see if I was heading to Nam or college. Can only imagine your husband’s emotions as he said goodbye.
This has been one of ma favorites song for 55 years. I still feel so happy and cheerful when i lisented it
I was nineteen she was seventeen and I was on my way to Vietnam. I believed I would never live to see my
twenty first birthday so I turned and walked away from her. Her name was Carol she had a twin sister named Cheryl
and I could always tell which one was Carol. Texas and 1968 was so long ago. I hope she had the greatest lifetime anyone
could possibly ever have.
joelm1948 look her up! It’ll be easy, I can help!
Thank you for your service and sacrifices sir
And now I'm crying. That is profound
Wow. That's a tear jerker. Thanks for serving. My dad was Service connected death, 1967. I was 13. Hope you look her up. She should have looked YOU up.
joelm1948, best comment I've ever read on RUclips. Thanks for your service.
Who's listening in September 2022?
2024 ; )
I'm listening in July 2024; it is still a good song.
@@utlot9785 Great! It’ll be two months before it’s September 2024. This year is almost over, lol!
@@shawnmalone9711 But, I will still listening to this song, throughout the year. Many memories come with this song.
My junior high band director would play this song on repeat the last day of school!!! Great memories!!! RIP Mr. Curtis
Thank you so much ma'am
I was in 4th grade and always equated it with our school year ending too. Especially 8th grade when we all went to different high schools.
I kissed my girlfriend goodbye in September and headed off to Viet Nam. I forgot that Marine tours were 13 months, but I did see her the next October.
God Bless you for your service to our country! My brother was there, also.
lol
BC Fellow I left for the Marine Corps in July 1970 when I got to my permanent duty station I got a Dear John letter no kiss for me in Sept.
thank you for your service.
BC Fellow love it!! Good memories....my hubby is still my world, and still tear up at this song!!
I was born in 1958. This song is one of my earliest memories.
Mine too born in 59.
Me too, 58 also.
Ditto. ‘58 also.
I was born in 1958 too.
This song meant so much to me as I entered my teen years. I listened to music on a tiny transistor and sometimes waited hours for the DJ to play this. No playlists in those days, no way to know, so I'd use up batteries waiting . . . . finally I bought the 45 which I still have. Thank you for this precious film.
She was and still is the gorgeous redhead and teen love. In 1973 till this day I think of her and wish I could have been with her forever GB
Me too!
Me too! Although I was only ,11 it's still a fav of mine!!!
When I was a teen I went to the public swimming pool , I d heard that song and thought it was from the Four Seasons . So old memories in Vietnam .
I remember do the same ,but will never forget thoes days. Moses Lake Washington.
I wasn't even 10 yrs old and I still fondly remember this song. A masterpiece.
I was 16 when this came out. Great music never gets old.
I was 14 years old and I'll never forget the bittersweet memories this hauntingly beautiful song conjures up now at 70.
Great time in America except for Vietnam, America was doing well for most of us.
Great Group ~ Great Song
Great Era
It is amazing at how many comments that I have read from men and women in their 70s, who still grieve the relationships of their teen years and early 20s that could not be put together, but still stay in their minds, and won't go away. I was 16. My sweet first real love was the same age. I still love her, even though we could not work things out. She passed away in 2016; it still hurts...very much,
It is 2022 and yet another September is here. I still think of her a lot and I know that I will not see her again. School was over and I had to leave. I did not see her the following September. The last time saw her was May 25, 1972. I never saw her again.
I am very sorry for the loss of your special love, as I did in 1964. I saw her again in Dec 64, but we could not put it together. I still love her. I learned of her passing in 2016, and still grieve her death
I listened to this beautiful tune on my 6 transistor radio.
OMG, I'M OLD!!!
Me too - listened to this in 1966, had 6 transistors, and am old!!
But you got to listen to golden oldies....great time to be young!
I remember this song in my childhood. It always made me happy while living through a tumultuous and abusive home with adopted siblings. The memories are happy ones..the only ones of great music to escape with.
I love the harmonies in this song and the great voices. It really makes you feel that feeling of saying good bye to someone. It reminds me of my late husband. Miss you, Lovie!!
I'm gonna see my family in September 2021! After so many months due to this pandemic! Flying to Peru!!! So happy!!!
I was born in 1968. This is one the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. I loved it the first time I heard it on the radio, some time the 1970's as a young boy.
Clean cut guys with a hit record . Imagine that

And dressed to the nines to boot.

Nice song describes how we feel when somebody we love leaves us because of Summer Vacations. It is something that has happened to many of us when we were teenagers. There was that girl we loved and then her family took her away from us as they had Summer Vacations somewhere else.
I will always remember sitting on the beach whe this song came out and watching my older sister. I was 7 and she was 12. She loves this song. I felt so cool listening to this with her. ❤
Such beautiful song full of great musical tonces. Lovely. .always to hear it....bring happy memories ...thanks
One if my all-time favorite songs.

There's gotta be a live tv performance of this song it was a worldwide number one hit in 1967, playing on every jukebox and radio.station nonstop wherever you traveled. It bridged the Jersey do-woo sound with the coming 60's folk music popularizing lush harmonies like never before, inspiring Mamas and Papas and countless others. Lead singer was a professor of music. Read their wiki.
My cousin collect 45s and this was on of my favorite songs from her collection. Was always good to me as a kid. Love her to this day. I miss you.
Remember listing to this song in 1966, boot camp in San Diego, Ca. co 356.
I am proud to say that I burned my draft card during the junky Vietnam war.
I was in boot camp in July 1970 Semper Fi Mac.
@My Schlong Thank you for your service and welcome home brother.
This was my favorite song back then when I was a kid back in the day.

I remember this song back in 66 I saw her and since she had entered the 8th grade I loaned her my science scrap from the previous year I had good grades, it helped her out.Beautiful song lots of memories
This song makes me think of my dad. He loved this style of music. Miss you daddy. 💙1946-2006

I left after my sophomore Spring semester in college (1968) and this song was in my mind. I actually never came back in September because I enlisted in the Air Force. Four Septembers later when I returned to school I was married and had four years in the Air Force behind me.
I was in USAF 1968-1996. It was good.
Great song! September is my birthday month so I've always liked this song. I've said it before and I will say it again "If you got to grow up in the 50's through the 80's YOU were blessed!"
wish I was born in those days. still a great song
Every year at schools end I waited all summer to see my girl crush. Even though she just lived half a mile away. This sing would come on the radio and my heart would just ache to see her.
My distance was 700 miles. We couldn't overcome that. It was hard to know that our love was crushed by miles. I loved her, and still do; she died in 2016, and still gives me great pain.
Wonderful and classic song the 60's.
Lots of memories with this song
In between The Beach Boys and The Four Seasons there was The Happenings with this wonderful song, thanks for uploading.
Summer vacation summer love...good times
This gives me so many memories of my childhood

See You in September.💞 Me encanta esta linda canción de 1966
Songs with M E L O D Y and true, terrific harmonies. Nice, simple music, artistic works. This was a fine one-hit wonder by the Happenings.

I was doing my tour in Vietnam 🚰😝🐼 when this song came out brings back a lot of memories good and bad but I would do it all over again What a great tune Man I wish it was 1966 again I don’t care
I understand. I wish that I could go back to 66; which is when I graduated from high school, listening to this song over and over.
From the 6th grade til' now, always a favorite.
THIS SONG BRINGS BACK SO MANY MEMORIES

I was born in 81... theres a 70yo ghost Iliving in me that keeps this in rotation.....
But i learned of this song from a commercial in the 80s featuring lunch ladies waiting for kids to come back to school for some of that good cookin. The song was lovely and imprinted.
Ok ima go back to listening to 4tops Bernadette after this..... the old ghost always wins.
"it's so neat to meet your baby where the action is!" loved that show!!
GREAT SONG FROM A CLASSIC TIME.
They say, "Heaven is the past".
How I miss this wonderful time!
Backup vocals harmonize this legend
Saw the Happenings at Harrah's AC the eve of May 18th, '17. It's a new group, but Bob Mirandi who presently lives in California was the lead and he was full of energy and still a strong voice. In the audience was Jay of the Tokens.
Memories of Brooklyn, NY in the early 60's. Great music and as a young child - I was mesmorized by this melody and presentation!
Suit and tie. Very cool. Love the harmony.
Guys from my childhood neighborhood. We all knew them very well. We were excited they hit the big time.
Love them all the oldie goldies
Beautiful childhood memories!
It was a beautiful song of age 16, when the most special girl, ever, came into my life. I still love her, even though we could not get past the hurdles of 700 miles separating us. She passed in 2016. I still love her, and think of her everyday.
love the harmony
Why can't anyone do this TODAY? Ear candy.
This was produced only a third of a mile from where I held my first private-sector, competitive market job, at the West Lake Street McDonalds Restaurant, where I worked at in September 1977, the same year of the end of the Seattle Seahawks first season. It was one of the best 1960's music videos that was ever produced. And Jackie De Shannon actually performed outdoors at nearby St. Paul!!!
my mommy loves this beautiful beautiful song
....wonderful song.....
My first , not really boyfriend, had an older sister who had given him this song on a vinyl 45 record. I wanted him to give it to me, but of course he didn't . I remember thinking this was a really great song. I was 12 and he was 13 at the time. Still think the song is great. I have no idea what became of the boy. Life moved on, but a great song stays with you forever.
I understand what you are saying. Time passes, and it hurts, when someone special is not with you. My special girl friend of 1964 stays in my mind. She passed away in 2016; I still love her, and it really hurts, even to this day.
A experiencia só existe agora.Antes nada enxergamos pela juventude.Bons tempos!
Yep, you had to be talentef back then, to be singing. There were a few that fell through the cracks, but they were an exception. Great song!
I was in 6th grade JHS and I would hum this song every year thereafter before beginning School. Now here I am singing it to my Granddaughter in 2020 as we embark into Virtual/Remote Schooling!
Classic rhythm
I used to sing this song about someone every summer...I can't remember who any of them were now but I remember the song.
Same here.
So many memories 😢
a really cool song, unforgettable!
This brings back memories of the days when I couldn't wait to get into that Pontiac that my folks brought home!

Such a wonderful Song.
They don't create that anymore in the USA.
WHAT A SHAME!
Society in FREE FALL.
The ultimate college summer parting song. She usually didn't come back in September, sadly.
You are right about that.
Why do I feel so sad listening to this song ? 😢😢😢
Y ou maybe long for someone
They look cool in their suits.
60s had the best music,
Such a beautiful song of young love ❤❤❤
I grew up near Lake Calhoun and Lake Harriet..lived on Garfield Ave
Amazing! My father and I will be reunited in September and he tagged me in this... 🤣
I don't know why I dig this song so much. It's kind of cheezy, but I love it.
I was 6 when this was on WABC 77 in NYC... it rewrote my BRAIN... I've been a hopeless romantic ever since... that and my Roman Catholic upbringing! :)
The same hold true for me, listening to them and groups like them on WCFL and WLS in Chicago -- and my Roman Catholic upbringing, too! :)
Tim Ward
COOL! My mom went to St. Aloysius in Jersey City NJ- my granddad was a Pontiac dealer on Hudson (JFK) Blvd.
Also- my Uncle Morris Philipson was the Chair of the U. Chicago Press for 40 years... after starting out at Random House under Bennett Cerf- he and Andre Schiffrin founded Pantheon Books... :)
***** Ah, those were the days! I went to Divine Providence, the only Catholic school in the entire Chicagoland area that consistently refused to close on snow days. We used to listen for the school closures in the morning, and they would always say, "In Westchester, Divine Infant will be closed but Divine Providence will remain open." The school was run almost entirely by fully habitted nuns (black floor-length habits, black veils with the white cardboard fronts, and HUGE clacking rosary beads). My dad worked in the Loop for a big advertising agency. Outside of school, I always had the radio tuned to one of the two big top-40 radio stations. The dee-jays were amazing. Great deep voices that seemed to speak as quickly as any auctioneer -- and God, they were funny. And then there was the music.... Wow!

HAHAHA! Like Kathleen Freeman with Jake and Elmore... :)

I met her and shot an interview with her when we produced Jerry Lewis' Biography for A&E in 1995- we shot her on the stage of "Married with Children", on the MGM Culver city lot (Sony Columbia now)
***** What a great video! I didn't have nuns like the one in the video, though. My brother, on the other hand, did. His 8th grade teacher was Sister Blanch, an old-school nun who used to say, "There's 49 of you against one of me, and I can take you all!" My nuns were of the less brutal type, with one foot in the joys of Vatican II and the other foot in the Counter Reformation.
My mom used to bake pecan pies for the nuns and have me deliver them to the convent across the parking lot. The convent was new, and smelled of fresh oil-based paint and some sort of soap or disinfectant. The walls were without decoration, except for the occassional piece of religious art. It was a scary place, in a new-construction sort of way. Anyway, I had to stay out of trouble, since I would have to deliver a pie.
Eventually, though, we were all excommunicated for one reason or another. Despite our devotion, we managed make ourselves unworthy.
I think it is great that you worked on an A&E Biography back in the days when A&E actually had some substance. Jerry Lewis! Can't believe the French liked him so much. Sort of wish that I had gotten into film making, but I guess it is too late now! Speaking of Jerry Lewis (sort of, anyway), I used to like Gary Lewis & the Playboys -- they were really good. I should look them up on RUclips. I'm humming "Who wants to bu-u-uy, this diamond ri-i-i-ing" already.
Have a great New Year!
Well it was a good ride lads.
See you all on the other side.
I think it's safe to say that most of us are still here
sorry to disappoint
If I'm a little late, order me a scotch.
THIS is SUMMER!
today our song the walk to be a Marine sons 1968 respect brothers
the WARS BROTHERS WALK A BROTHER MY UNITS vIETNAM
They're so clean cut and well shaven. Little did they know that in a few short years the scene would change to long hair, beards, no bathing and flower power!!! LOL!
I'm on vacation September 2018!!! 😘 Beautiful song.😍
lost my summer love after spending the summer back in 72 never saw her again after that
I am very sorry.
I love this song!!! I always thought Bob Miranda looked like one of the Kennedy clan!
