Couple corrections: Trap cards do not cascade, you only ever draw one additional card. You assign Hard Knocks to yourself, not any player. Speech tokens are not initially assigned to anyone: at the end of a mission (whether it succeeds or fails), that Mission Leader now gets a Speech token, and the lead passes to the next player. Speeches affect only non-withdrawn players who are not the speech-giver. And remember: no talking about your hands or about whom to support!
Also, (if I remember correctly - I don't have my copy handy) it's not the cards from no man's land which are moved to the draw deck - you move one extra card for every card still in player's hands from the monument to the draw deck (up to a limit if you're playing the expansion). It means there's a penalty for pulling out of missions which has to be weighed against the danger of failing a mission - otherwise everyone could just withdraw in the first round and deplete the monument deck.
A lot of feels in this video, the 100 year anniversary of the Armistice for World War one and the end of that pointless conflict as well as the death of Tignous at the hands of terrorists during the Charlie Hebdo attack. I feel it was important to make this the World War One game we covered on this day. And i'm glad we did. If you want to pick it up, check here. www.boardgameprices.com/prices/grizzled/?[grizzled]
Love the look, style, and topic of this game. Haven't gotten it yet mostly because my group isn't big on co-ops and I'm not sure they'd appreciate its somber theme.
Great production! Just one clarification... The game isn't lost when a player gains four Hard Knocks *cards* ... The game is lost when a player gains four Hard Knocks *symbols* (the lightning bolt). One or two of the cards display two symbols. A minor clarification, but one that I know some players have misunderstood.
I bought this second-hand and it arrived at the start of the week. I found that it really brought home the futility of the war while as you say, emphasising the camaraderie between the soldiers. It is one of the rare examples where a game becomes art.
Oh, yes. I live in Brittany which was occupied during the WW2, there are many reminders of the wars still around. I have also visited some of the war cemeteries in the Somme and I have been to Dunkirk and the beaches in Normandy. Unsurprisingly, I am a pacifist.
That's fair. I'm not a pacifist as such. Sometimes war is a terrible necessity. But i'm very much in the camp of "do as much as you can to avoid it where practicable". WWII is a good example, that war had to be fought. WWI, not at all.

Trap cards not cascading should make it a bit easier.

Why do you not discuss hands if it's a co-op game?

Got this game for christmas. Really looking forward to playing it.

Yeah, it really does need that co-op mentality, and being cool with the theme. Certainly not one for every group
Saw this on a trading Facebook group today, it looks brilliant. Not sure my mates would all be keen on the theme, but I think I need this one.
Amazing reviews as always. New game added to my wish list.
Cheers Stuart, glad your enjoying them

yeah, good point. I should have made that clearer for sure.
A damn shame I couldn't find this at Essen Spiel 2018. This game still is high on my wish list.
Its a few years old, so not surprised it wasn't at Essen as thats all about the new stuff. Should be easy enough to track down though.

Completely agree Emma. And being in France, it probably has that much more resonance
