  • In this clip: Sarita Choudhury and Sarah Jessica Parker
    Dedicatee: Willie Garson (1964-2021)
About this clip: Carrie and Seema have an emotionally intense altercation with one another that devolves into the beginning of a real friendship. Carrie is angry and resentful when she sees that the glass of her picture-frame with Big lies broken. The broken glass touched by Big everyday is not replaceable to Carrie which prods Seema to reveal what nettled her about the otherwise supportive Carrie.
The scene completes the three dyads of AJLT friendship and underscores the word "real" to emphasize how Carrie's relationship with a man was perhaps not authentic enough, more especially, in the light of the revelations about his personal life he seemed to live, apart from her. The last time we hear the word emphasized is when Carrie tells Aleksandr in Paris she needs "real" love. The SATC/AJLT narrative can then be seen as Carrie's journey to find real love and rejecting one reality for another that seems more existentially fulfilling.

I mean, why people need to be perfect. That's not realistic I don't know why everyone seems to be so judgemental these days and only focused in the negative aspects of her personality. I'm glad that she's real. She's a real character with good and bad moments, that's something we all have to remember. We are perfectly imperfect.

@@willpazmino6744 Carry is not insensitive, she is even worse than that: she is plain vapid, in life like in what she used to call 'work'. She always was a vapid hot mess who was lucky enough to land a rich husband (and two or three unconditional friends who would put up with her no matter what) without apparently asking or expecting it, and live in the USA at a time in which you could earn a living on the most vapid "job", wasting your payroll away on shoes you can't actually afford, without even caring to provide a backup (literally and metaphorically) for your source of income. Even her apparent feminist attitude and sham independence were fruit of her essential vapidness. That's how "imperfect" she is: a silly secondary character presented as a leading lady, a common character presented as a "special" one... because, you know, we are all "special". She embodies the 1990s (1996-2006) version of the fairytale world of 1980s 'Dynasty'.

I love it how I’ve read comments on other videos of the show of people saying “ugh, she’s not grieving at all, she’s living her life like nothing as happened after loosing the love of her life, this is not realistic at all” BUUUUUT now there’s this incredibly realistic scene where she shows her grief (same way I have this year after loosing someone) and now people are saying she’s toxic!!! My godddd, there are so many negative comments about this show, an almost ALL WOMEN show and most of those comments are from WOMEN as well, I’ve seen some of the reviews videos and they’re literally forcing their way into trying to find something irrelevant to criticize. So sad, as I find this to be a beautiful new piece offered to their devoted fans.

I know within the past seven to eight years it has become "really cool and edgy" to hate Carrie Bradshaw (and Rachel Green, apparently), but Carrie's character flaws are severely underrated, in terms of writing and storytelling. If you've watched the show, you know that the character of Carrie Bradshaw isn't some sociopathic, cold, cruel, mean, malicious person. She's a person who isn't right all of the time, but her heart is in the right place and unchanging. This scene is a perfect example of that. Do you really believe Carrie's "putting yourself out there" comment to Seema was intentionally snide or cruel? If you do, well then you don't have eyes or ears.
Carrie is also still in the grieving process and is ALLOWED to become emotionally overwhelmed over a broken picture frame of her recently deceased husband. And Seema wasn't "putting Carrie in her place," Seema was sticking up for herself, which Seema is also ALLOWED to do. Notice what Carrie does when Seema tells her about how her "putting yourself out there" comment hurt her-she stands there, she listens, she understands, and makes a peace offering with the food. I dare anyone else out there to handle this same situation in their real lives with class and grace like these two characters did. Unfortunately, most people in the real world would most likely throw petty insults or get loud and aggressive or storm out. And those same people are criticizing the behaviour of Carrie Bradshaw.

Hi Juju! Interesting comments about Carrie. In my world, Carrie wouldn't be my friend. For me, all the SATC ladies are self absorbed, self centered, impractical, judgemental & unrealistic. It's a show! I know! Made up, pretend, a fictious show about people I wouldn't be friends with. I live in Manhattan (UWS) & the people I know & surround myself are more grounded, giving within & outside of my circle. I cannot picture any of the SATC ladies giving a dollar, when approached, to a homeless person. Let alone work in a soup kitchen or volunteer at a domestic abuse shelter. How about donating their labeled clothes to a charity that helps women return to the work force? Again, this is a show. I hope Mr King, the writer helps the characters grow up in the real world & not just living in the Manolo Blanhiks world. Not trying to be harsh. People are taking this Carrie thing way too far. She's made up.

    • @jujubean8870
      @jujubean8870 2 года назад +22

@@jkhegarty4317 Hello, JK! Just a reminder: As Miranda was telling Carrie that she was pregnant with Brady, a homeless man interrupts their conversation and Carrie gives him cash. Another reminder: Samantha literally helps a nun get a crucial cancer appointment with a hard-to-book NYC doctor.
We all understand that this is a show, and you and many others may even have a point in that these characters aren't "real people" or "real women," which, again, is part of the fantasy of the show and the show's appeal (there's plenty of other shows about "real people" and "real women" [whatever that means]). But to think that these characters are self-absorbed or self-centered or just bad people is a little over-the-top, in my opinion. There's so many negative comments about Carrie Bradshaw that you'd think she was the Antichrist because she isn't perfect and lovely and wholesome 24/7, all the time. I doubt she'd be receiving this much vitriol if she were a dude (because male characters can make as many mistakes as they want and be cool and likeable). Take the character of Big, for example-one of the worst people/characters in the show, but he gets a pass-no comments about him. In fact, he's a saint "who was always in love with Carrie," according to his ex-wife. If Carrie forgets to wish someone a Happy Birthday, she's the devil, a careless, self-centered, insensitive witch. Burn her at the stake. It's very bizarre.
I also think it's a bit dismissive to slam these characters because they enjoy fashion and nice things-all of these characters worked hard in their respective fields to afford these nice things. There's an episode that touched on this concept when Carrie was being shoe-shamed by a mom for buying expensive shoes. So, people who like labels are self-absorbed, self-centered, impractical, and unrealistic? (I'm not putting words in your mouth, JK. I'm just speaking generally.) That, in itself, is a very judgmental view.

As much as I rolled my eyes watching AJLT, I did like the character of Seema quite a bit. She didn’t feel like a forced replacement for Samantha, at least not in my eyes. It was satisfying to see someone actually call Carrie out by leveling with her like this. As superior/better as the original series is, I felt like Carrie always got off easy even when her friends tried calling her out- they would immediately revert back to acting like Carrie’s dismissal of their qualms was cute. Like when Stanford called her out for ignoring him talking about Marcus- she couldn’t even be bothered to take him seriously. Or when Charlotte allowed her to change the subject after she showed up with the nerve to give her crap for not giving her the 30k that one time? I watched the reboot just cause I’m a longtime fan of SATC- and I found the writing ridiculous and obnoxious but scenes like this gave it some redeemable qualities. Plus the fashion is always so awesome!!😬 oh and Anthony yelling “Get out!”- hilarious 😆

I never had an issue with Carrie voicing how angry or sad someone made her. Too many times we shove our true feelings under the rug to appease others or to not make them uncomfortable.
Just because it is a mistake doesn't mean damage wasn't done. However, once a genuine apology is given and work is put in to make sure the mistake isn't made again, it is also imperative that forgiveness is attempted.

Irrespective of the circumstance, it’s important to tell people how you really feel. It was great that Seema was self-aware and confident enough to be honest that she didn’t feel sorry about the glass because the photo represented something joyful in Carrie’s life. Did feel a little heartless… even if Carrie x Big drama is so draining.
But timing is also important. Maybe it wasn’t tasteful to have brought up Carrie being insensitive at the restaurant right then and there in retaliation to breaking the glass… “what goes around comes around Carrie.”

What a great exchange. Done to perfection in an adult manner. Seema respectfully reminded Carrie of a moment where Carrie said something that could be taken as an insult even if she did not mean to insult her. Everyone sees words through their own lense of experiences. This could have turned into a screaming match but they were both open and respectful of f each other's give and take in a calm manner. It's all about having grace and not getting tripped up over everything a friend says. Unfortunately, this is scripted and well performed and often humans do not respect other people's views band it's ok to feel the way you do. Great scene to remind me to stop and think. But it was ok for Carrie to express herself and it was ok Seems to giver a polite and firm reminder of a situation they share to bring Carrie to reality.
