Your "unscientific method" of figuring out the rpm, was actually rather clever. You guys get a nod for that one.
Yes great thinking but the paper make a small resistance so they can be a little faster than 1300rpm
@@legros731 i expect 1400-1500 overall. great flow at that speed though
It's actually the exact method that older tachometers use. AvE shows off one and it's tuned to display the RPM via weighted displays that resonate.
When I first saw this comment before reaching the part you mentioned, I was thinking they were gonna mark one blade of the fan, let it spin, and they can look back at the footage so they know how long it takes for the blade to spin and return to it's original position, and then from there they could calculate the RPM
It’s basically how you measure than irl.
A few comments about fluid bearings from an engineer:
- mounting them vertically is preferred (opposite of what Jay said). In fact, it is the best type of bearing for this application! Because the axle is not touching the bearing, there is no wear in this mounting position. A sleeve and ball bearing both will show uneven wear and fail eventually. (Search for hertzian pressure if you want to learn more)
- A liquid fluid is incompressible! (Generally speaking)
- A fluid bearing is self-centering so any wobble of the fan blades come from the the plastic itself being crooked an NOT from the bearing
- a fluid bearing IS basically a sleeve bearing but whereas a cheap sleeve doesn't bother with lubricant and uses just the low friction coefficient from the sleeve as "lubrication", the fluid bearing has a noticeable gap between shaft and sleeve containing a lubricating oil and requiring a seal!
-contrary to common belief, the fluid is not pressurised. The pressure comes from the relative motion between shaft and bearing. The underlying physical phenomenon is impulse diffusion due to shear stress in the fluid
Now, mounting your fan horizontally (e.g. top exhaust), all the weight of the fan blades now rest on the seal instead of the lubrication fluid, hence the opposite of what Jay said is true. Fluid bearing is best for front and rear mounting, ball bearing and sleeve better suited for bottom and top mount.
You’ve convinced me for one!
@@danmyers2759 I think this is why mine died approx 1 1/2 yrs in
How can I know if it's fluid bearing fan or a ball bearing one ?
@@dzcasanova8840 the simplest way to test is the feel of friction , like a vibration when you spin the blades by hand to your ear. the bearing fans will present this. fluid will not. hope that helps. or google model number

6:10 Jay if you plug that into your mobo (the 3 pin 5volt) into your mobo you can have software control. I had the same 3 pin header with the controller that came with my case. The mobo I bought didn’t have a 5v 3 pin on it so I Ended up going with a higher end mobo that has 1 of those on it. Plugged it in and I have full software control of my case fans
I don’t think he means rgb control but fan speed and fan curves. Unless you also have full control over fan speed through software, that would be nice
I've use these in my PC, I've been running 8 of them total. The RGB controller that's included has it's issues. For starters, it will sync to your motherboard RGB program, but only until you turn off the system. Then you will have to open your case back up and hit the sync button on the controller. You can avoid this by buying their 3 pin addressable models and using splitters.
If you're looking for a silent fan or are a snob when it comes to how loud you like your fans are higher RPMs, these aren't for you. But if you're a gamer who wears a headset while playing games, you should pull the trigger on these 100%.

16:36 - That wobble might actually be from carving it. For extremely cheap production for parts that need to be semi balanced, they might be using a shaving mechanism on the hubs to keep the center of gravity dead center-ish. It's inexpensive, fast, and when you end up with stuff flying out of a mold willy-nilly for cost, it's an easy automated way for balancing.
Aaaaaaaaaand they're gone!
I can just imagine the push pull setups that DIY PC realtors are planning. When value is offered, people will take 'the risk'...
Looked on Newegg out of curiosity, same thing (in stock) is $80. Holy moly I can't wait for those things to be back instock on Amazon
supply and demand
Did my first fan maintenance and it wasn't on a PC fan, it was on my little desk fan, sleeve type, tore it down and found the grease was all gunked up from dust, cleaned it out with break clean and sprayed in some new lubricant and it blows air as good as brand new! This little fan isn't going to the junk yard yet! ^_^
I got a 6-pack of uphere RGBs in my rig. Dirt cheap, great performance!
I was just going to say the UpHere fans will probably do the trick or are probably the same OEM fan
I've been using UpHere LED fans for years in multiple builds without any problems. Though I've only used the one color LED fans not the RGB ones.
I got a totally different 6-pack right here!
Wonder what their reaction was:
"what do you mean, we need to produce more? WE JUST HAD A LOAD MADE!"
More like... "I wish we could make more but the factory is closed because of the human Malware.
I've bought 2 sets of the uphere branded ones on Amazon and they're just okay. they don't seem to move a lot of air but they work.
Robert Kincannon I bought a set, they move air pretty well. They aren’t Noctua by any means, but my 5 fans are moving way more air than the one fan that I’d get for the same money. And the color is good and bright with a bunch of patterns and colors. I think they are a bargain for the price
I picked up a 5 pack of those (140mm) for 50$ for my pc and they work pretty alright. They're pretty quiet and even though they don't move a crazy amount of air, I have enough of them that it kinda makes up for it. Plus they look great, especially on just static colors. Would definitely recommend for someone who wants rgb on a budget
I have 5 of them in my case and I put 3 of them in my step sons case. You guys are right if you put enough fans in a case it'll kinda brute force move the air. You guys like that "brute force" has been kind of a buzz word amongst the tech tubers lately.
I got them before this review came out actually (appx 2nd half of 2019). My PC runs about 6~8 hours day and these fans are set at max speed. Still no signs of death and feels like day 1 and my components are decently cooled. If you don't care about showing off much or premium brands this is a good alternative to save some cash really 💯
@@zin9121 it should yes. Make sure to place the controller in the most Optimum position before finalizing the placement. Do a plan routing the Cables before plugging them in and you'll be fine with cable management as well ✌️
Jay : sponored by a good pc store

“I’ll drink to that”

Wdym I love paying a ton for every single part
@@komplexi273 There are a few good stores in Germany though. Mindfactory has never disappointed me. I lived pretty close to their Main Store/Headquarters though.
Consoles from the US..
do a vid on re-filling hydro bearings!
9:46 Holy smokes that's the biggest brain energy I've ever seen in measuring fans RPM
Having installed multiple sets of EZDIY and AsiaHorse fan sets for customers I can honestly say their value to performance is unmatched. EZDIY-FAB Moonlight kits with 6 fans a hub and a remote run $50, Nuff said! The wiring can be a mess as with any other brand aside form the newr click or magnet connect deals, with the exception they run $100 plus for only 3 fans that are no better in performance to these kits. Most motherboards don't like ARGB and even when it works the MB lighting choices are usually very poor. Use the remote set these fans to medium and you're good to go. At full speed they become a tad audible but barely and the medium setting moves a ton of air that is perfect for most mid-high end setups but test all 3 modes to make sure you get what you need. Great video Jay as always!
I recently bought some "UpHere" RGB fans. Really really impressed.
I just had my 5 pack from them arrive today, excited to throw them in. Question, do all of the fans have to be set to the same color? Or can i set them individually
@@RealSoftBonerGaming I got the 5 pack too, the remote controls the actual "hub" that comes in so they all have to be the same from what i can tell
I bought those a few months back. No issues. I did get the Amazon 3 yr warranty just in case though. 😁
I was looking at some, wondering I saw the ones that have RGB control to MB, you think it’s worth doing that or just use the controller ones?
@@EgoBrainZ71 how are they doing now??
I've had these for about a year now. I love them. I also use their sleeved cable extensions
We all know:
More RGB = More FPS.

@@Ace-gq8xp 😂😂😂
This guy knows it..
I myself used regular 10w40 engine oil on those greased ones without ball bearings, (i think they where stock fans from an 08/10 antec case) they siezed cause of longtime use in my friends computer and it worked like a charm.. still going strong those fans after 3 more years of use :)
This is kinda random, but can I build my whole pc and then add the ssd at the end?
@@BlackedBeast yes
Nikolai Vedal thanks, I can’t rlly find anywhere online about this. Would it be as simple as finding the slot on the mobo and screwing it in, all while inside the case?
They're $50 now... but still sounds like a great deal
Also, I didn't know leakage was the most common failure of hydraulic fans, all mine that have failed have always been seized...
neither did I. after 15 years of computer building, ive only had one hydraulic fan fail due to leakage, confirmed by the spew of lubricant out of the fan and excessive dust that wouldt wipe away after a brushing. 1 fan, out of 25 hydraulic fans. every other one siezed either due to dust or drying out after a breakdown insepction after failure. however corsairs magnetic fans are still going strong on my current main machine since mid 2017, and they havent slowed down at all yet. hopefully they make it another 5 years or so by when the machine will most likely either be a server for something or a hand-me-down.
all the best

$80 on Newegg now lol
They seize because the fluid is gone
@@7KingCobra7 I think it's usually from dust buildup. But I've never had a fan with visible fluid leakage
Danish Proshop (probaly the best computer hardware store online in denmark) sell them under the brand Dutzo, freaking underrated fans, Positive runs well, are decent silent, the RGB Light are complete Stand alone, no need for software, all are used by controler. easy to connect.
I Use Be Quite Light Wings, Lian Li SP120, but the dutzo fans are really good when want to replace some cheap RGB/ARGB Front frans, in a cheap chassi.
do the fan colors save offer the option to use software tho?
These remind me of the "upHere" brand of fans I have in my rig for $30.00
Pretty similar to the PCcooler ones I have too
Year in with no issues my wife had one fan out of 6 that was wonky and the customer service was amazing replaced it very quick. So quiet but move plenty of air. And they look damn good. Best value fan in my opinion.
Lol anyone see that the fans went up to $45 😂

$39.99 currently. Still not bad
its close to 50 rn lmfao
The way you guys figured out how to determine the rpm is wonderful! I've become wiser! Gonna use this sometime
When they say cheapest fans on amazon but you have those fans😢
Is it good enough?
Same

Cheap != bad
@@custardstuff5178 not always lol
after my cousin showed up to my house asking for help with a build wielding a Canadian version of the same fans, i immediately ordered 3 more kits. i swapped out my cooler master case fans for these as they look nicer and push more air. plus the rear case fan wasn't RGB. and now i got 2 left over and 3 cooler master extras for if they ever bum out. my brother also bought 2 packs for a build hes currently putting together. cant go wring for 20 bucks. only reason i see not to use them is if you want all you RGB control through one software program.

Can you please Test how a very cheap fan does on cooling a radiator vs a expensive high static pressure fan? And maybe add 2 cheaps fans push and pull VS one expensive high static pressure fan. 😁
JayzTwoCents viewers: I'll take your entire stock
i purchased 2 musetek cases and built PCs for both my kits, they came with these fans and hub. 2 years later still work amazing, both pc are watercooled as well
