- California paddleboarders found themselves in what resembled an outtake from 'Jaws' when the chilling announcement was made that they were just metres from a school of around 15 great white sharks.
In helicopter footage taken by Orange County Sheriff's Department, the creatures' forms, which the aircraft's occupants observe are 10 feet (3 meters) long, could be seen through the clear water just off the California coastline.
A loudspeaker announcement could be heard coming from the helicopter saying that the area is "heavily populated at the moment with large great white sharks" and that the creatures have come "as close as the surf line".
The paddleboarders are then advised to "exit the water in a calm manner".
"Thank you for your cooperation"

Swimmers, surfers, and and everyone else at the beach in SoCal knows there are great whites in the area. However, having 15 of them in a very small area is very rare and unexpected.

In the LOOOONG video, the camera zooms in where all the people are swimming in the water, not far from where the sharks are. I didn't see an actual paddle boarder as I wasn't looking. I was looking at the sharks!

Thrashing around or “swimming fast” makes a lot of (noise/Vibrations) which the sharks are attracted to (animal in distress = free food) so exiting in a calm manner is best

Having been on the beach when the choppers do this, I need to tell the sheriff's just one thing. We can't hear you. I realize you think you're speaking pretty clearly up there, but out here we need you to use as few words as possible and enunciate clearly. I worked in law enforcement too and even from the cars, what you say into the PA cannot be heard as good as you think it is. We have to say "Pull over" or "Move to the right" not begin a sentence or two. Now factor in that you're in a big whirly-noise-maker and these people are on the beach with the sound of water. Do you REALLY think we can hear you speaking sentences like that? Seriously? How out of touch are you with what the experience looks like to the people you're trying to talk to.
Try this: "SHARKS IN THE WATER. GET OUT NOW."

I'm not even kidding when I say it looked right at me laughing cause it knew my heart was pumping !! to funny. I just knew this Whale had a sense of humor the way it looked at me. and it made sure we made eye contact, that's how I knew it was a joker !

I mean, a lot of us intentionally go free diving with great whites, and tourists pay thousands of dollars to tag along. Most people aren't afraid of sharks, it's actually an exceptionally rare phobia.

Yessir! Last year was swimming in the gulf of Mexico down in Tampa and something very large and long brushed along side me and I was waist high in the water...after which I was toe high in the water. I got the hell out of there quick. My neighbors did not dismiss it being a shark. One surf caster says he sees them all the time. I swim and kayak in the Weeki Wachee river (own backyard) from now on where I can see 90% of the bottom and from time to time see manatee and dolphin.
They're going to need a bigger boat.

This was in Capo Beach, Dana Point. I was there, signs were everywhere warning people about the sharks, so that's probably why you don't see anyone in the water.

Long before drones and lifeguards with helicopters we surfed 50-60 days a year from Stinson beach to Cabo before Jaws came out we never even heard of White Sharks or were aware of large numbers of sharks in the water. Once in a while we would see a fin or a shadow or to in a wave, but that's it. We assumed the shadows were likely dolphins. Were we that clueless?

The marine mammal center in Laguna Beach and even SeaWorld keep rescuing abandoned sea lion pups instead of letting nature take it's course. Then they wonder why they keep dying. I love south beach. Collins st Is where we usually post up. During hurricane season just to catch few lil decent sets. Course their curious here, if they Weren't we would've never seen them just blood. I've had one circle me few times here n there went way.. One that actually took to my foot an board I never seen coming till it was over an my lil grom ass was running on water.

And with the pollution an the currents drastically changing ..brings more sharks closer inland an more attacks last few years alone.
I work with an ocean project an it's all out of our own pockets. There is a reason why more an more shark attacks are happening an why they've been coming closer to not just surfers but inland.

Megan Barry: Pollution is bad when it rains, especially in Santa Monica and Long Beach where the drainage canals empty out. People are advised to stay out of the water during and shortly after rain. Also, there is a cancer epidemic among life guards on the Los Angeles County coast.

Is the aircraft armed? I mean, suppose the sharks were to attack faster than the paddle boarder could paddle (I.e. suppose they were to attack, period!) Could the guys in the sky do anything to help, or would it be game over for the paddle boarder?
