You guys should respect MD more. I’m not throwing any shade to SJB. But the reason why I respect Mater Dei more than SJB is because when IMG called MD with their best team ever, they agreed to play. When St.France called MD with their best team ever, they agreed to play. When Gorman called MD with their best team ever (this year) they agreed to play. MD put their balls on the table, took those extremely high risk games and came out victorious in all of those Top 5 matches. SJB has avoided playing any Top 5 team since 2016 against Tate Martell’s BG. SJB has the resources, tech, connections to play any of those top 5 schools but they haven’t for 6 years. Why? Same reason why some boxing champs avoid those high risk fights. Boxing and UFC fans know exactly what I'm talking about. The reason why most champs in their weight class like Tyron Woodley, Demetrious Johnson, Anthony Joshua, Floyd Mayweather, etc avoided those big time fights is because they know they can actually lose. They’re afraid to lose their clout, reputation,champion status, sponsors, money, etc so they're not incentivized enough to take on high risk games and instead stick with easy opponents (Oregon teams, Hawaii teams, Utah teams etc). Like those fighting champions, why would SJB play St.Frances, IMG, STA, St.Joes Preps, American Heritage, Chaiminade-Madonna when all they have to do is beat Mater Dei once in the CIF Championship for the National title? I usually see people write off the Trinity League schools like SJB and MD as “IMG magnet Academies” but I don’t think thats fair to MD and SJB. It’s their coaching and culture that is far superior. Nobody is talking about how the Mission League LA private schools are loaded with just as much talent as SJB and MD but they always fold to lesser teams. Did you know last year Alemany had 10 players in the top 247? To put into perspective, MD and SJB both had 11 players in the 247. You know Servite’s “monster team” last year that beat SJB? They only had 4 last year! Imagine if Servite had 10 players in the 247…But Alemany still lost to OLU, Lone Peak from Utah, Mission Viejo last year with all those studs. Alemany couldn’t even beat OLU in the CIF championships, OLU had zero players in the 247 compared to Alemany’s 10. But I usually see Alemany with this type of talent every year but they always end up losing badly to teams like Corona Del Mar, OLU, Utah teams etc with those star studs. Another example, LA private powerhouse Serra in 2015 had 6 NFL players on their team and still lost 3 games that year! They had Caleb Wilson, Khalil Tate, Rasheem Green, Deontay Burnett, Oluwole Betiku Jr, John Houston Jr. and still lost to Corona Centennial (68-64), Bellevue from Washington (31-14), and Bishop Amat (24-21). Again, In 2013 Serra had that monster team with Adoree Jackson, Marquise Lee, etc I think they had around 8 NFL players that year? But they still lost that year to a much smaller and less talented Chaminade in the CIF finals and needed a field goal to beat an Arizona team that year. You’re telling me SJB or MD would lose to Corona Del Mar, OLU, or Utah teams with that type of talent? Like I said, I think the talent thing is just an excuse the other coaches make so they don’t have to take responsibility. It’s like dismissing an A student but your lazy ass never studies. The Trinity League’s coaching and culture is far superior in Cali. I remember the SJB coaching staff would take trips to attend coaching clinics from Alabama, Georgia, etc. That’s hard work.
It's just every other state's excuse for not being able to produce as much talent as California. It's the same thing in basketball. California just has better programs no matter how you want to skin the cat. We do a much better job of getting our kids to compete at high levels from a young age. Not to say that other states don't produce talent at all. They just don't produce as much. Not to mention the simple fact that California is by far the most populated and most diverse state in the entire country.
The quickness on both teams is amazing for HS I played against teams that had one super athletic guy but these teams have them on both sides of the ball Being Catholic Schools regional in nature they can draw from a huge population plus their coaching is top notch . Comparing them to a good team like local team like Chandler High School in AZ is apples to oranges . The entire state of Az has less than the population of LA Chandler has 300,000 people . Plus 7-8 HS Interestingly there are few parochial schools playing competitive football in the Phoenix Area
I think St. John Bosco was a bit shell shocked from seeing someone compete with them here too, both teams have been dominant so far this season, but Mater Dei has had a tough game or two this season (game against Bishop Gorman), getting them used to facing adversity, unlike St. John Bosco, who just beat every body without trying.

No, they're regular Catholic high schools with players from surrounding area (not national)--not like St. Frances or IMG (despite what butt hurt haters from places like TX and GA claim). Akin to powers like Bergen Catholic in NJ or St. John's DC, but with a larger population of elite athletes that live within driving distance of the schools.
@@nosir1440 I hope so too. As a Cali and West Coast fan, USC is really the only school with any chance of challenging the SEC and Ohio State. The UC System has sold out for foreign tuition money (foreign students pay 3x as much) so Cal and UCLA just don't have the focus on getting football going like the old days. Oregon has everything in place except a great coach people want to play for. USC is the one school that has everything needed to compete. It's private so can admit anyone. It's in LA. The weather is perfect. It has the tradition etc. I'm cautiously optimistic, though I don't really think Lincoln is that dude. He has the "whiz kid" look but I'm gonna hold off until he does something big.

I usually see people write off the Trinity League schools like SJB and MD as “IMG magnet Academies” but I don’t think thats fair to MD and SJB. It’s their coaching and culture that is far superior. Nobody is talking about how the Mission League LA private schools are loaded with just as much talent as SJB and MD but they always fold to lesser teams. Did you know last year Alemany had 10 players in the top 247? To put into perspective, MD and SJB both had 11 players in the 247. You know Servite’s “monster team” last year that beat SJB? They only had 4 last year! Imagine if Servite had 10 players in the 247…But Alemany still lost to OLU, Lone Peak from Utah, Mission Viejo last year with all those studs. Alemany couldn’t even beat OLU in the CIF championships, OLU had zero players in the 247 compared to Alemany’s 10. But I usually see Alemany with this type of talent every year but they always end up losing badly to teams like Corona Del Mar, OLU, Utah teams etc with those star studs. Another example, LA private powerhouse Serra in 2015 had 6 NFL players on their team and still lost 3 games that year! They had Caleb Wilson, Khalil Tate, Rasheem Green, Deontay Burnett, Oluwole Betiku Jr, John Houston Jr. and still lost to Corona Centennial (68-64), Bellevue from Washington (31-14), and Bishop Amat (24-21). Again, In 2013 Serra had that monster team with Adoree Jackson, Marquise Lee, etc I think they had around 8 NFL players that year? But they still lost that year to a much smaller and less talented Chaminade in the CIF finals and needed a field goal to beat an Arizona team that year. You’re telling me SJB or MD would lose to Corona Del Mar, OLU, or Utah teams with that type of talent? Like I said, I think the talent thing is just an excuse the other coaches make so they don’t have to take responsibility. It’s like dismissing an A student but your lazy ass never studies. The Trinity League’s coaching and culture is far superior in Cali. I remember the SJB coaching staff would take trips to attend coaching clinics from Alabama, Georgia, etc. That’s hard work.

It's just every other state's excuse for not being able to produce as much talent as California. It's the same thing in basketball. California just has better programs no matter how you want to skin the cat. We do a much better job of getting our kids to compete at high levels from a young age. Not to say that other states don't produce talent at all. They just don't produce as much. Not to mention the simple fact that California is by far the most populated and most diverse state in the entire country.

Being Catholic Schools regional in nature they can draw from a huge population plus their coaching is top notch .
Comparing them to a good team like local team like Chandler High School in AZ is apples to oranges .
The entire state of Az has less than the population of LA
Chandler has 300,000 people . Plus 7-8 HS
Interestingly there are few parochial schools playing competitive football in the Phoenix Area

I think St. John Bosco was a bit shell shocked from seeing someone compete with them here too, both teams have been dominant so far this season, but Mater Dei has had a tough game or two this season (game against Bishop Gorman), getting them used to facing adversity, unlike St. John Bosco, who just beat every body without trying.

No, they're regular Catholic high schools with players from surrounding area (not national)--not like St. Frances or IMG (despite what butt hurt haters from places like TX and GA claim). Akin to powers like Bergen Catholic in NJ or St. John's DC, but with a larger population of elite athletes that live within driving distance of the schools.
Jordon too clean been doin this since we played on the Solano warriors when he was 8

@@nosir1440 I hope so too. As a Cali and West Coast fan, USC is really the only school with any chance of challenging the SEC and Ohio State. The UC System has sold out for foreign tuition money (foreign students pay 3x as much) so Cal and UCLA just don't have the focus on getting football going like the old days. Oregon has everything in place except a great coach people want to play for. USC is the one school that has everything needed to compete. It's private so can admit anyone. It's in LA. The weather is perfect. It has the tradition etc. I'm cautiously optimistic, though I don't really think Lincoln is that dude. He has the "whiz kid" look but I'm gonna hold off until he does something big.
I hope FSU, UF and UM get the edge again in keeping the Florida recruits in state again! All 3 teams would be top 5 teams like it used to be
