Phillip Harper has some Don Cherry up in there!! A very sincere and human sounding player, not a computer. Great idea pairing him with Brad
Dr. Mehldau never fails to deliver 👋👋👋
I’m in awe of Brad’s deep sensitivity of comping with Harper’s solo. He’s really listening and supporting. Where I come from, cats will rather fight you than support. 😅
And when you know he was told he was not at comping in his early years 😅
So great to hear Brad in this context. There's a reason why he's considered a generational great and it shows. Another one who is a generational great, imho, is Kyle. He's listening and responding. Always a pleasure to watch him play!
Philip is an incredible bass player!
Yes...that comping and bass solo were crazy !
Wow that bass solo was ridiculously good
Another great pianist of the 21st-century! Thanks for bringing these guys on Emmet.
modern as hell, and still so human and sensitive. All the space is amazing.
philip norris killin it dang
The interaction is the fun thing . For the non musicians and for the musicians-those playing and we at home, not playing, but listening as if we were there playing with the cats. Live, spontaneous Jazz is the best. Rarely captured in the studio.
Yes, indeed. Philip is working his way around and through the head and changes - always a joy hearing a player of his caliber growing while making some fine music!
And Brad internalized this head so thoroughly, (likely decades ago), that he’s freely “playing with and around” (vs playing on), its lines, rhythms, and changes. Sweetness!
Seems like ages since I've heard Brad play like this - he can play any style with such facility ❤
Love how Kyle plays so sensitively here and really interacts/listens with everyone
What incredible bass playing oh wow
Wonderful jazz room and musicians, inside music, inside jazz! Beautiful Brad Mehldau!:)
Fun to see Emmet, in the wings, on his couch, watching Brad, hoping maybe to catch the slightest morsel of an approach to rhythm changes he's not yet considered. There aren't many of those left I'd bet...but who better than Brad to play close attention to. And Kyle never disappoints, nor did he here. Bravo all.
Both great pianists. Brad Mehldau has earned his place in jazz history, so he can just relax and play great stuff without breaking a sweat.
Love this tune, just transcribed it in the fall
Awesome performance! Superb sound engineering! Listening on Martin Logan Motion 40 speakers.
Brad.

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Fortiiiiiiii! 👍👍👍
Emmet Cohen builds a great community, promotes his art with panache through youTube and the internet, beams a brilliant smile that lights up a room, speaks with eloquent grace, and also happens to be a phenomenal jazz musician. I don't know, but I bet he can cook delicious meals, too. ❤🎉🌞🙏🏼
This community is already built bro lol
@@dfwherbie8814 True. Cohen deserves credit for making it so widely accessible through this channel, but the jazz world has been a vibrant community for over a century.
Nobody's claiming he built the jazz community. That wouldn't make any sense, so it's weird to assume the writer meant it that way. I took it to mean that Cohen built the "Live From Emmet's Place" community, because that's the reading that makes the most sense here.

Woooooooo !!!!!!!
❤❤❤
Brad is so to say the intellectual type of jazz pianist. What he has to say he says without big noice.
only since 2009.. I can't enjoy him since then.. I call it emotionless playing. Always sounding like he's pissed or more like he's more or less doing it because someone asked him to. Ofc course it's still world class quality.. but just incredibly boring, stiff and dull
@@straizys for the uninitiated, why 2009? did something happen?
I mean listen to his albums it was a great barrier in his sound@@waki8893..i don't know what happened.. he discovered bible? :D
@@waki8893I guess he just lost some of the magic since then.
What happened in 2009? @@straizys
Mr. Harper sounds 🔥.. Amazing lineup

痛々しいフィリップさん、体調管理に気をつけてください、応援してます。
What’s this acronym stand for
Jimmy Heaths girlfriend's intials. although a lot of people think it stands for Chicago transit authority
Imagine your man names a song after you all to find out it’s a bebop tune 😂

Excellent performance but wonder if the trumpet would have made it even better if it had been muted or played on a flugel horn but thats just my personal preference.
Yeah. He's one of the jazz players who has such a harsh, uncareful way of playing that the tone and fracked notes go overboard towards distraction instead of enhancing the taste. Great lines, but I wouldn't be disappointed if he refined his sound.
@@charliecampbell6851 the trumpeter is awful.
@@thmsrttghe just doesn't know the head, i'm sure all of us wasting our time in the youtube comments can't play a solo that touches his
I don't like the trumpet honestly, I've played at jams all over the country that have much much better trumpet players that deserve to be on this live. Nice guy though.
@@asup759 his tone is the same for the whole show
(Brad is out of y’all’s league)
brad using 5% of his power here
he's admitted he can't play like he used to anymore@@joe1hundred
@@Shadows_Lights brad? he seems to just be chilling, he has higher gears but it’s not the place for that
@@joe1hundred ruclips.net/user/shortsvlb15ErQKf4?si=o8XKH8zHOhk6TIw7
unfortunately he said he can’t but he’s still amazing, and we’re blessed to have his old recordings as well
@@Shadows_Lights well dang, i see. that is such a great record tho
