This was so wonderful to watch. Vida was my hero and I loved watching him pitch. RIP sir! You are beloved by so many of us who grew up in the Bay Area.
Watched him pitch for the Giants but never thought of him as a "Forever Giant". He was on the famous 3 World Series in a row A's. Also he played for them longer.
This is so great, man these men were so role models in my life, my mother died June 1st 1970 2 weeks before Chicago bears running back Brian piccolo had died. Theses men meant so much to me as a kid. Baseball black kids & football. Christmas time Rudolph the red nose reindeer, frosty the snowman Charlie Brown Christmas 🎄 time very 😊 happy & 😥 sad times, missing my mom her death really had a lasting affect on my life. But sports & all of the happiness from this era. Thank you all & GOD BLESS !
What I remember most about Vida Blue and the 1971 baseball season, I turned 13 yrs old that July of '71 I watched every televised NBC's game of the week hosted by Curt Howdy & Tony Kubek ,plus every Monday night baseball game. I recall watching the '71 All-star game and I believe it was the first time the two starting pitchers were black, Vida Blue and Doc Ellis of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Reggie Jackson hit a massive home run to right field. As Vida Blue, he was the cy young award winner for the '71 season. Another highlight for Vida Blue, he was given an invitation to the White House by President Richard M Nixon......way to go Vida Blue!!!
Such a cool interview. Great job, Renel. Vida Blue was my A#1 ballplayer back-in-the-day. (The man could swing the stick pretty good too. And he was a switch-hitter, no less. He is, arguably, one of the greatest ATHLETES to ever play the game of baseball.)
Giants were rolling in the first half, I remember Vida being 16-3 or something at all-star break (he was NL starting pitcher) and the Giants with MLB's best record. Then the wheels fell off, and they didn't make playoffs.
The Great Vida Blue Thise Great Oakland A's teams of 1972, 1973 and 1974 World Championships. RIP Vida. He almost became a Yankee in 1976 and was I excited until Bowie Kuhn voided the transaction in the best interest of baseball.
Sorry guys Vida Blue is a Oakland A’s not Giant. 3 World Series with the A’s and none with Giants. He always be remember a Oakland A’s M.V.P. Hall frame player. Go Oakland”.
My all time favorite Giant. RIP Vida.🙏🏽💔😔
My earliest memory of becoming a San Francisco Giants fan for life is due to Vida Blue. Thank you Mr. Blue.
RIP Vida...An Amazing A and a great Giant....MVP and Cy Young....
Rest in paradise Mr. Blue ❤

Glad to see he was doing well in the later part of his life. He was so cool with the A’s and Giants! HOF!
I love you Vida!
0:46 That fastball 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Stretch didn't like that call. lol.
I know it looks awesome, let's go dodgers
Along with MadBum, my favorite SFG southpaw. RIP.
Awesome
RIP Vida
RIP Vida Blue
His no hitter was in 1970 not 1972
Great interview. But Vida is being modest, he would absolutely mow hitters down with that fastball. When he was on, he was almost unhittable.

Love Vida but his rings say OAKLAND

Why is the sky blue? Many may ask, most say because hes on the mound.

All his awards are with the Oakland A’s not Giants. Oakland A’s GREAT”.
A friend of mine told me he once asked Vida for an autograph, and he said "Fuck no! If I give it to you I'll have to give it to everybody!"
lol
I see a better ball player than Bonds and Griffey( Son) a great great pitcher in a jammed decade of hall of famers.
I have his card from this team.
