I wish Cain never had his elbow problems as that is the reason why he was forced to retire. I miss Cain’s playing days. Him and Timmy Jim were a special duo. Then you add that young oaky from North Carolina then you get a special starting rotation.
I usually don’t get picky with description infos on videos But “made his MLB debut in 2015?” The “only no-hitter in Giants history?” No, it was the only Perfect Game in Giants history. Just thought I’d point that out. Much love for Matt Cain.
Just having a Cain craving today... rewatched the perfect game... as well as our series finishes... and to top it off, the icing on the cake as I now will refer to her, Renel Brooks-Moon. I remember when I first heard her, wasn't sure what to think immediately (not a lot of women baseball announcers even then) - but I fell in love with her as well. She truly was meant to do this job, and she's the best at it in my opinion. Matt, it goes without saying just how much he meant to the Giants, and to me. But I had to put in a shout out for Renel. They are both Giants.
Matt's career winning percentage was barely above .500 but he was a true ace. Usually going up against the opposing teams #1 or #2 starter he held his own. His career earned run average tells the story more than his winning percentage. Matt Cain is forever emblazoned in the hearts and memories of us Giants faithful.
My favorite Giant! I was a kid when I went and watched him pitch 8 shutout innings against the Rockies at AT&T Park. Only to lose 2 to 1. The boys never gave him the run support he deserved!!! Forever Giant!
This guy had really weak run support for years, especially in the early years before 2010. Even with the terrible luck, he was a class act. Never called out the front office for the team’s anemic offense, never called out his teammates for their inability to bat in runs, always humbled himself.
There are bright lights all over the sky, and some are comets. I wish he and Lincecum had been able to be as great as they were for longer, but I'll never forget the show when they were great.
I alawys liked how down-to-earth Cain always was. I remember an interview someone did with him and one of the questions was about how to sleep before a big game in the World Serie. Matt looked at the reporter like he was maybe not too bright, and said, "I close my eyes." LOL Classic Cainer answer.
I will stand by that if Cain had jumped ship to the Cards or Phils or AL contenders, he probably couldve won a cy young or two, had 60+ WAR, and pitched till he was 37 since he wouldve been able to load manage more. But, this man stuck with us through thick and thin and goddamn he is an SF hero for that.
Matt Cain is a perfect example of why a sub .500 record isn’t always reflective of a starting pitcher’s talent. This guy was well known for receiving weak run support from the Giants hitters, especially in the early years when the Giants were a bad team until the early 2010s.
Early in his career, Matt had no run support and his record suffered, though you knew he was going to be the ace of the staff. Finally, it happened - 3 world championships in 5 years and, with some good bats in the lineup, Matt was invincible. I just wish he had taken care of his "Tommy John" problems during the off-season after 2012, when they were just beginning to develop. He was always one to just "tough it out." He could have probably had at least another 5 years as the ace of what was already a great pitching staff.
In the early years when the Giants were a really bad team, watching Cain get snakebitten with weak run support always had people wonder how a pitcher with that much talent could lose so many games even when pitching really well.
"On the ground, Arias, from deep third... GOT HIMMMMMM!!!! And that's a perfect game!!!!"
Blancos gotta dive, and he's makes the catch!!!
Matt Cain was everything a Giant is
Most loyal player hands down

Just thought I’d point that out.
Much love for Matt Cain.
Incredible Jake agreed, they probably didn’t mean to press the “1” lol
You're right many screwing up the difference between a no-hitter and a perfecto is actually pretty dang important. Who is in charge of these?
Om C
Exactly. Not to mention, Tim Lincecum already has two no hitters.
Looks like he can still go out there and pitch 5-6 solid innings. I miss Cainer.
Geez, I miss baseball. Matt Cain was awesome! That perfect game was killer. I have it in DVD. The only baseball dvd I own!

This is so well-done! Great stuff from both of you legends.

Everyone who has ever rooted for the giants should love Matt cain

I remember him pitching 7 strong giving up 2 runs and losing most the time. Guy never complained though. Giants legend forever!
We got to do a forever giant Buster posey
Retire his number!!!! #18 is Special!
