- U-Ram Choe: New Urban Species is on view at the Frist Center through May 16, 2010.
Korean artist U-Ram Choes kinetic sculptures are made of delicately curved sections of wrought metal, joined together in movable parts that are driven by motors to expand, contract, or otherwise suggest the autonomic motions of such primitive life forms as plants and single-celled aquatic creatures. The intricate workmanship and graceful movements of these mechanical sculptures offer viewers an unparalleled visual delight.
have just returned from viewing this exhibition - absolutely brilliant !!
I stared at this for hours between lectures.
If you can find a way to see these pieces in person, you will feel like you have been transported far into the future. I saw them on Jeju Island, South Korea and have never forgotten how shockingly advanced this art is.
Went to this exhibit! It was absolutely amazing. You HAVE to see them in person to really appreciate how intricate each creature is though.
AMAZINGLY WONDERFUL!
Amazing !!!!
Awesome video of exhibit, even moreso in person..
those things are amazing
too amazing to be real !
Genius.
Wonderful! Yet I wish we could either hear the mechanisms or some good music with this...
His art is an imitation of life, maybe Pandora's life...
Reminds me of the Strandbeesten by Theo Jansen.
They look great in this video, but it is only a two-dimensional moving image - these works are three-dimensional moving forms. In the gallery (in particular the John Curtin Gallery at the moment), they have to be seen in person to be truly believed.
Am I the only one who feels shyt is about to go down...and then the "fire" command is never given.
Si toi aussi tu l'a découvert à l'expo "Séoul, vite, vite!" au Tripostal de Lille :)
Who is the next? Terminator for sure !!
try watching this while listening to Gojira - World to come...
you gotta be shittin' me
