- Jeff shows you how to crack a Hard Shell Lobster . He is a master at cracking a lobster and even describes the way to identify a male lobster from a female lobster. He also has a video on cracking the Soft Shell Lobster and at the end of that he compares the amount of lobster meat taken out of the Hard Shell and the Soft Shell Lobsters that he just cracked.

Man, if there is one thing I’m convinced of, that was far from your first lobster! Great video, learned a ton...
Great demo. For those of you not having Goliath hands like this gentleman, a rolling pin and swiss army knife are very handy implements for cracking the shells and rolling the meat out of the small claws. Watch your hands, cracked lobster shell can cut like a knife so don't grab by the edges.
Masterful! We were in Cape Cod last week, and I watched many videos for tips on properly and thoroughly breaking down a lobster (...for happy hour at Pearl in Wellfleet, where lobsters are $13 each), and your video is by far the best I've seen on RUclips! Thanks for sharing your expert instruction, advice, and tips!
The family casually in the background is the best part 😂 Great video!
JP, YOU ARE THE MAN!!! This is definitely among the top few videos I've run across in a long time. You are so calm, patient, deliberate & articulate. It's good that I just happened to run across this video, since I just finished cooking AND EATING a whole lobster. However, I just stacked the shells up for the garbage can, so I guess I'd better go back and get the rest of my money's worth. Mine was just over a pound, but I didn't dig out half of what you got! Yours looked like a 3-4 pounder, enough for the whole family. I hope you all enjoyed it. Jeff, thanks so much for sharing. CIAO!
How to eat a lobster tail not How to eat lobster. What a waste
Dude, your not alone. look behind you.
LOL, I did not notice the ladies until I read your comment.
@@Jupe367 Yep the dinner party
Yee, he knows he's not alone. Who do think he beckoned to bring the wine bottle? She's just camera-shy, I guess.
SORRY! I meant - TEE - NOT YEE! (TYPO)
yup and they all feel like in Hollywood movies lol
I met Jeff on the Vinalhaven Ferry today and had a great little chat! It was nice to meet you, Jeff! Thank you for the map and the stories.
Jeff’s a very nice guy,I met him at my work, great video
Great! Just what I was looking for. A true local getting the most out a harvest with minimal waste! Thanks
I have NEVER thought of using the pincher claw as a pick in all my years vacationing at the cape. Genius!
Really love these two videos on how to crack lobsters! Jeff Peterson does a great job explaining how to get all of the meat out.
THIS. IS. AMAZING. You need to go viral.
I LOVE this! Thank you so much for being so authentic, informative and making it look so dang fun and yummy! I just got a lobsta in the mail as a gift and wasn’t sure how to go about it with out utensils. You’re the best! 🙌🏻
Best source IS a lobster fisherman to learn how to clean a lobster. Great video.
I just purchased a lobster at the local grocer and steamed my lobster at home on my own for the first time. Got to say it's been a great experience.
Wow I lived in ct forever and never knew how to get meat out of the body. I always threw it out. Thanks for the help
Love how the wife walks thru in the background. Last time I had hard shell we had a sledge hammer and it didn't work well at all. Lobster's on sale today and I'm gonna give it a try!
Thank you Sir!! So Helpful
Very impressive! Thanks for sharing.
Great video! Never enjoyed watching someone pick a lobster as much as I enjoy eating one untill this video
I've enjoyed this Jeff, I've had my share of lobsta being from central Maine, But I like soft shell any day. But you taught us all well. Good job. Sometimes you think you know, but you don't...
Sir, you are absolutely wonderful!! ❤❤❤ Thank you so very much for sharing your skill and expertise. I am saving this to favorites for future use. 👏👏👏Much respect and seafod appreciation.
You Sir are a legendary meat extractor of a lobster !!
We met Jeff while walking today and appreciate the video suggestion!!!
Well done, the best demonstration, cheers from the UK
I love how real this is 💖
Thanks, Jeff!
Thanks. I never knew how to completely process a lobster to eat it.
My dad was able to disassemble a huge Maine lobster and put it back together. He mounted it onto a board so I could take it to Show & Tell in 3rd grade. It was a HIT, esp with the boys, which made me quite happy! 😊
Had no idea there was good meat in the torso. Thank you!
Great stuff!!!!
Jeff, YOU are the B.E.S.T..! Thank You sooo Much, GOD BLESS brother.! WelderX
I love how to show how to take out the entire lobster to get all the meat. Love the liver part
When I'm done with it, it looks like a grenade went off inside it. Love the liver part, the fat, I eat everything is eatable inside it.
Excellent, thanks!
This is mesmerizing
Perfect pick. Finally!!
Looks so delicious 😋
Awsome video!! Thank you very much!
I think everyone should have been sitting in front of you so they could watch too , very interesting also a rolling pin works wonderful on the small legs for squeezing meat out .
Yeh, Michelle, I saw the rolling pin trick on someone else's video, but it didn't work at all for me. Maybe I didn't use enough strength or weight on the rolling pin. I GAVE UP!
Very helpful thanks
Respect! I know you said you’d do this bare handed, and you would have, if not for that hard shelled one. You could have done the soft shell first, but I can tell you like a challenge. If you had, you would have done it all bare handed, no doubt. That was the most thorough video yet how to do this, and you made less mess than anyone else too. Especially how you efficiently dealt with that body. Great work, and you didn’t waste any at all. Props!
i AGREE! It was an exceptional video tutorial.
Nice video thanks
The extra meat, which I also go after, on the shedders is less (~1/4), but this is 1/3 or more of the total meat. It's worth the time and effort to get every bit.
Nice Video
My problem is doing it without eating it. Thanks for sharing your technique and knowledge. Alohas from Hawaii! We only get spiny lobsters.
Thank you
i like the natural picker!
As someone who has actually never eaten a full lobster does the meat get cold fast just sitting over there waiting to be eaten? Or do you eat as uou go?
Great job! I’m hungry now!
I recently had some delicious Maine lobster but was confused about the little carrot-stick looking parts. Clearly not tamale or roe and there were two of them with the same color, texture and size as slices of carrot. What were they??
The people in the background look like they're having the time of their lives...lol.
they are like cats waiting for that lobster meat.
I liked your video very much. You gave some very good details. Just wish you knew how others behind you were posing themselves. Especially the one with her hand most of the time on her jaw. I was smh.
She made me think she hoping you don’t say anything crooked. (ask me, she may be a very jealous gal) cause she sure did not act like a “lady” or a “woman”. I felt so bad for you. I’m being distracted by others in the background. All in all, great video, I loved it. Thank you. I learned a couple new ways to get all the meat I can get out of a full Lobster. You go J!
Seldom does nature give us an animal with so much edible meat in it. Lobsters are amazing! They're cool animals in their own right.
Also, hello ladies in the background! Hope you get to eat some lobster too!
It seems like buying a live lobster to eat is cheaper than buying tails or other prepackaged meat and you get more out of it. Is that correct?
Love the accent ! All actors who try watch this!!!!
Great vid sir .......way to go after the body and tamale people always ways the hidden treasure
Hahaha, the guy snoring in the back!
I didn't know there were other people there until one of them moved. Lol.
Thanks for sharing. I can't roll a pen or bottle in a restaurant on my first date. Dining etiquette matters - what-to-do?
Ordering lobster on your first date??? Are you insane? The guy will hate you for getting the most expensive thing in the menu. Meanwhile, you will have the trickiest thing to eat as you try to talk, engage and impress. Lobster on a date (especially a first date) is a total no-go.
JJeff, thanks. Next time, if you could show close-ups of the areas to harvest the meat, it would be better.
SERIOUSLY, JIM???? You couldn't see the areas he showed AND explained? Head, tail, body, legs, liver, fins, etc. - have you ever seen a lobster up close? Just wondering - I'm blind in one eye, and can hardly see out of the other one, but I had no problems following him, whatsoever. Maybe it's time for your yearly eye exam???
Finally someone got all the meat
she is not creepy she is in the shadows lol :)
using the pincer claw as a pick is genius...
lobstahh...
I read if you have a rolling pin you a squeeze out the meat out of the legs but I have never seen it use at a restaurant but it should be available. Also a pick like fork to pry out meat but again that is rarely available at restaurants. Nice tool a small rolling tool and pick at sea food restaurants
REALLY, ED?? Come on, now! Do you want a bib and some wet naps, too? How about a nut-cracker, or whatever they call that thingy used to crack lobsters, crab legs & stuff? Then again maybe they should just include a tool box with each lobster meal -- hell! They cost enough!
OH! Ed, that's why the video was on "How to.........WITHOUT TOOLS"!!!!
Thank youuuu🦞🎆
Thanks for the explanations, i feel i wanna eat one now 🤤
And that is quite a bit of lobster, out of one lobster! That is the best phrase of words ever spoken at a dinner table, next to a bowl of lobster shell parts all empty. I wonder if I could use that wine bottle trick on a well done boiled chicken? You would have to press harder.
The liver is a “Tomalley”. Goose liver is “Foie gras”. Ducks have very good livers as well. But on a steer, it’s called liver! But a heifer or calf is not as strong, yet stronger than pork liver. The liver from a “Yellow Fin Tuna” is extremely sought after a fresh catch at sea, your on-board captain insists on preparing the tuna for shipment home, he will fry the liver with a little butter while below deck and return once eaten.
Jeff :
You are doing what I always wanted to see on RUclips with regard to getting the whole substance from a lobster. I live in Newfoundland Canada and I eat a lot of lobster during the season for lobster harvest. I hate the idea of everyone in the ignorant world thinking that one needs to saturate lobster in BUTTER to eat it. I never use butter on my lobster. NEVER !! It destroys the taste !! I am eating lobster , not butter !! Perhaps you as the author of this video might have tried lobster with a total saturation with butter !! ) I wonder who started that dictation to those who like lobster ! ) It is bullshit ! Newfoundland Canada is the real home of Lobster...period. !!! The USA can only go as for north as Maine to argue about good tasting lobsters within the confines of the definition of USA . Everyone knows that the colder the waters in which the lobsters live, the better the lobster taste ! So !!!!! Newfoundland is further North than Maine ( The USA State ) So, ( All Y'all who doubt this , simply just don't rebut , .... but rather search Newfoundland Lobster on GOOGLE and how they compare taste wise to the rest of the North Atlantic !! )
You are a man of my own heart with regard to getting all that is within the shell of a cold water North Atlantic lobster !! Thanks !
What's with those people in the background?
Pure willpower not to take a single bite..
I would have bit the 1st claw in half lol
Red lobster beat me out my lobster meat. I figured they did. I find get even close to that amount of meat. I tried picking the biggest lobster out the tank also.
That's a whole lot of work
YEP! But like the other video guy said, "IT'S LIKE HEAVEN IN YOUR MOUTH" (but only if it's cooked right). If feel the same way about crab legs. I don't puck with 'em -- unless it's KING CRAB LEGS.
How come people don’t put Old Bay seasoning on lobsters like they do crabs? I bet it would taste good.
I was in Maine eating lobster for the first time a couple months ago. I wish I had seen this video before that. I wasted a lot of good lobster meat.
.....and a lot of money - no doubt.
I love this great video! It's very informative. The people looking on behind your back, however, are annoying. I would have recorded this alone.
It's easy when you have hands like catchers' mitts!
Yeah, those are some real lunch hooks.
Fantastic. No special tools needed.
Great video, but next time if you could have the people in the background to keep it down a little
It may seem a lot of hassle to get the meat out of little pockets but I have done that for over 60 years. I just wish I could remember how I learned about it.
It can be up to 1/3 of the total meat...would you casually toss away $10? No. I have always gone for all the meat, and never understood people paying for "Lazy Man Lobster", which is essentially the tail, the claws (sometimes), and that's it.
Good job Jeff. Yummy.
Very good video. THANKS , Your buddy looks #$@&
WHAT BUDDY, EILEEN??? I don't see nobody OR no buddy!
I only have two thing to say. You are missing a good bit of meat in the body and sholders. Also a pair or plyers would be safer to crack the claw than that knife.
I agree w you about the knife. Way dangerous, not to mention dulling the blade. Better to flip knife over & use the backside. “Missing a good bit of meat on the body & shoulders” No. This proud Maine lobsterman got EVERY last morsel.
Red lobster lobby: hi how many in your party.... four witches. Umm excuse me how long is the wait? Greeter: oh the wait is 4 hours. If you give me your phone number I can wake you when he leaves.
Did you clean the wine bottle, probably not, straight from the store, blech. Heard of a rolling pin?
Dude has some big hands. Poor lobster didn’t stand a chance lol
Broo i cant take the people looking in the back
I'm hungry now
I just seen them.... 😂
Word of advice, don't use your teeth to mimic the rolling pin method on the small legs.
Those critters put red lobster to shame.
Yeh, he's got some bigguns'!
If you have strong hands...
You can def tell this guy is from Maine. Thorough AF 💤
I thought the Mainer accent gave it away. ;-)
Bostonite?
No ...He's a Maniac
You know from MAINE
Taking the shell off is all i saw But when you spoke all the word's came up not any part of the best thing's from the lobster
It drives me crazy how people set the meat aside to get cold. Eat it while it's hot!
IT'S A DEMO - FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!! He's multi-tasking -- preparing the protein for his meal, while showing us his best method for stripping all the meat from a hard-shelled lobster. I'll just bet that lady in the background got the potatoes, corn and other fixins ready. That's why she's pacing the floor - wondering how long before we eat????
Waste not want not!
Tina M. Trebino io
..."hey you're breaking my bones Mr" ..complains the lobster
That women in the background is creepy
Mr BigBoss it took awhile... Then I noticed the people in the background... Creepy.. I stopped watching....
I hadn't noticed her until I read your comment.
Yes. Some women are just creepy when they see there man enjoying something other than them lol
Welcome to Maine, now go home...(inside joke)
Too much work. I'll stick to spaghetti.
BH- I agree. I am from MO and it is amazing to me that people actually eat and enjoy this.
He’s doing it wrong ,if you use tools it’s not that hard,it’s grueling to watch him do this the hardest way possible
Are you sure your from Maine??? Your gonna need to go for hand surgery by time your done
