The MDA Labor Day Telethon was an enchanting yearly variety show that ran for half a century. Hosted for many years by Jerry Lewis, the telethon featured top stars from the world of music, comedy, and Broadway and was like no other show on earth.

OMG! By the standards, they have now, none of these girls would have made it to this level. They're timing is off, they're offbeat and by their standards chunky.
MJ's Dreamer I think the floor is so slippery, and they're used to dancing on grass but then again that's no excuse, one of my old dance teachers use to tell us , I need you to be able to pull this off even if your on heels, on an ice rink.

This older DCC style is a complete 180 from what they do today. This style is so much easier.

Unrelated, but when show group performed at a game for the hockey team I worked with, all i remember is seeing the faces up close when they did autographs & it was a LOTTTT of make up & some scary faces! Would've been around 1994. I was one of the four resident "beer girls". Had never thought about doing this. Had no desire to leave my horses & education. 💁

It looks like they pulled some girls out of a mall and taught them this routine in 15 minutes. They don’t look like trained dancers at all. What a difference from dancers today.

This gives me the same feeling as... watching Olympic gymnasts in the 80s vs. gymnasts now. It's amazing to see how the standards have changed in sports over 40 years -- still cool to see!
The gymnasts before were much more prepared and better than the ones now, however with the cheerleaders it is different

The shorts still the same inseam but they just sit lower now, the go go boots are now cowboy boots and the lapels have more of a western element to them.
Winter Bleu Straight hair has been the norm since big hair went out in the mid 90s, it should make a comeback. Also the hairstyles nowadays DCC sport are more reminiscent of the 70s with the flipped out sides, 80s hair had the feathered bangs with wings.

If Sally Sue walked in to tryouts today with THAT choreography and that pitiful excuse of execution, she would have been given the pointy toed end of a cowboy’s boots!! Seeing the one and ONLY black girl on the team is so inspiring. She’s literally paved the way for so many and the fact that she’s rocking her natural hair is amazing. I desperately wish to see some of the current DCCs wearing their natural hair too.
There was more black woman on the team in the 70s if you Google the teams atleast 6 on the 1971 dcc team and more on the other years they looked fantastic
They're not as technical but at least there was a better range of women and body types back then. Now they try to have all the girls around the same size.

Can y’all stop arguing about the difficulty and just appreciate what they did. As a dancer myself it’s difficult to get a big group to be in sync and nobody is perfect at the end of the day. They did what they could and it’s still amazing to watch. Yes the DDC has clearly evolved as does everything. But stop comparing the two and saying the dancers have no talent
I love positive people. I sure couldn’t do what those girls did, so kudos to them. Armchair warriors on here picking them apart is hilarious. These girls work really hard to get to be there!
Literally it's so annoying I hate how they judge them off today's standards and they seem to keep doing that with everything. This was top notch of their time and things evolve I mean realistically in 30 years from now people will say the cheerleaders from now wouldn't of made the team. Like why can't people just enjoy it and see this is where today's standard has come from these women.. Imagine how the would be if they saw them dancing from the DCC in the 60s 🙄

@@jerridombrowski6017 hate to break it to you but arts and entertainment are not equal opportunity. If your WOC doesn't have the technique, skill, training and abilities they aren't going to make the cut. Simple as that. There are plenty of non-WOC that dont make the cut for the exact same reasons.
