Canadian Northern had a trestle right next to this one and the footings can still be seen in the valley if you come back in the Summer. Their line was abandoned from the Donlands Station in Toronto to Greenwood in 1925 after the Canadian Northern was amalgamated with the Grand Trunk to form Canadian National. The footings of another Can Nor trestle, over Duffins Creek in the Greenwood Conservation area, were falling into the stream when I last visited the Park so they may have been removed by the Conservation Authority by now. Still,it would be worth a look ,because the valley is quite wide at that point and the hillside footings might still be there. Stephen Gulch, North of Bowmanville has an impressive "fill" over a smaller valley and the impressive Canadian Northern station on the hill on the East side of the valley in Port Hope is worth a look as well.
Fantastic place - Grew up here 1960's and 70's - swiming & exploring - riding bycicles and motorcycles throughout this valley and the near by Greenwood Conservation area & Gravel Pits - more than once we had to run for the cat walks as a train caught us out on that trestle - looks like they have taken down those little cat walk platforms to discourage people from walking the Trestle - The Rouge valley was another favorite of mine - great Drone Video - thankx 4 the memories - cheers !
Neat video, but better you should film from the road, the property from the road to the bridge is private, and being there subjects you to prosecution..
I do need to keep the copter within line-of-sight at all times. That would not have been possible from the road. I would never advocate trespassing onto the trestle itself. If you look at my other video "Making of Pickering Train Trestle", at 33 seconds into the video you can see the popular hiking trail that follows the edge of the valley and crosses the tracks at this point. See Google map: goo.gl/maps/B8Y9P The rail workers servicing the switch at the level crossing had no objection to our being here. But thanks for the advice.
Zbip57 Just so you know, the trail crossing is illegal and has been the site for acts of wilful damage including an attempt to derail a train 3 years ago. The track crews do not have the authority to exempt you from the Railway Safety Act. If CP Police show up, the track guys will keep working and you will likely receive a warning. You were trespassing in the location where the video showed the train passing, and trespassing on railway property can be prosecuted under the Criminal Code. You don't need to keep the copter in line of sight that much.
