- "An Irish American Oral History" presents the story of a young woman's immigration to the United States. In the first part of the video the narrator talks about English oppression during the Irish War of Independence. Then she talks about life on a small farm in Nenagh, Ireland. Finally, she talks about immigrating to the Philadelphia area, meeting her husband, and raising a family.
This project was completed by Steven Holloway for Writing Research & Technology, taught by Dr. Bill Wolff, and received IRB approval. I shot the video using the Flip Ultra video camera, and I used Windows Movie Maker, along with Photo Story 3 for Windows. I published the video with a Creative Commons, Attribution Non-Commercial No Dervitives.
I'd like to give special thanks to the musical artists featured in the video. Ernestine Healy and Fionnuala Rooney play the harp and accordian in the song, "Port na gCairdeanna" . Laura Beogan plays the fiddle in the song, "The Lone Bush", attributed to Ed Reavey. Both songs hold Creative Commons licenses.
