Wutai is secretly plotting something big, Yuffie being kept out of the loop (seeing how she's under the apparent strategical ignorance), perhaps Yuffie won't betray the party depending on your relationship level, and the big shock might be that the Wutai Interim Government is planning on betraying Wutai itself aka a possible coup d'etat. Cait Sith/Reeve was always one of the most interesting characters in the original IMO, but i felt he was a bit underused. I'm glad he got a bit more screentime in Rebirth, or at least it felt like. Haven't had time to get through the game yet, just seen some clips on youtube so far. There was a moment in the original that I thought was really great, when Cait Sith and Barret are having an argument aboard the Highwind, Barret is calling out Reeve for being a Shinra stooge and Cait Sith is like "bro, you were literally a terrorist". Ultimately Reeve is one of the only guys in Shinra with a moral compass, and he's just trying to do what he thinks is right in the position he's in. He's still there to help the party in the end, so he does care about doing what's right. He comes from a different realm of experience than everyone else in the party, so he approaches things in a different way. He's probably the most "law abiding citizen" out of all the main characters, so when the rest of the party is stacked with mercenaries, eco-terrorists, ninjas, edgy coffin dwellers, and disgruntled pilots, he brings a refreshing perspective to the game.
Everyone always remembers the main characters like Cloud, Sephiroth, Aerith and Tifa, so Reeve has always been underrated IMO. One of my favorite characters out of the whole cast of characters from FFVII. I don't think I cared all that much for him the first time I played the game many years ago, but I eventually appreciated him a lot more on subsequent replays over the years.

As someone who never got to play og FF7 when it came out, the lower half of your comment brings up a good point about character focus. From my perspective I only knew of FF7 through the frequent appearances and cameos of Cloud, Sephiroth, Aerith, and Tifa. These new games however have brought these other characters to the spotlight and shows me how interesting the rest of FF7's cast are.

They did want to play up the fact that Reeve was pretty much the only good person in Shinra. It was to make him more consistent. Like with Tseng slapping Aerith in the original game, when canonically, he befriended Aerith had is implied to have feelings for her. Reeve was basically the only good person in Shinra, as he actively wanted to help the people. But him threatening Marlene wouldn't for with someone of better moral fiber like Reeve.

It's explained after you reach Cosmo Canyon. Mild spoilers below...
The higher-pitched voice is Nanaki's REAL voice. Throughout Part 1 he was basically deliberately lowering his voice because he knew his real voice made him sound younger and like a kid. He wanted Cloud and the others to treat him like an equal and a warrior rather than some kid they had to look after. (And then they recruited Yuffie anyway, so shows what he knew. ;P)

@@Zaxares They do start treating him more like a kid though. He even complains about it during the Nibel Protorelic quest where he's like "I should have never dropped the wizened old man shtick."

@@DNeoTH Well, this is what he's like in the new continuity. He did talk in Advent Children (albeit only having one line) and still had the deep voice. And it's not that he ages slowly, but that his species lives for a very long time. As shown in the original game, the final scene takes place, like, 500 years in the future and you see Red with his two kids.

The sound mixing is shockingly bad, or just me? The dialogue gets overpowered consistently by the BGM.
