I inherited my moms stylus epic when I started shooting film and she still kept it cause of the memories (bless her heart) I started using it and it’s just my go to travel camera now. Don’t need another focal length when I’m taking this with me. Do I wish there was more control, sure, but as I use it now, it’s the ultimate travel camera for me.

That's awesome! That's really how I got most of my 35mm cameras, through inheriting them from family members. That's part of the beauty of film to me. That something someone enjoyed for so long can still be enjoyed by someone else years later. Having more control would be nice, yeah. But, as it is, it's a great travel companion that takes great photos with little to no effort, I agree.

I just found my moms Olympus Accura 105 in storage. I put a battery in loaded some film and wow this thing takes such good photos

I bought this camera in 1999 and it’s still a great and reliable little camera. And I really like the shape of it.

That's honestly so great to hear. It's nice knowing that it's managed to live that long

You picked a great point and shoot camera, it's definitely a classic!
My journey with them started when I was going on a holiday to France in the 1990s and I wanted a good travel camera, I chose the Olympus AF1 mini which is more like an mju than the bulky AF1 of the 1980s, I was thoroughly impressed with the photos it produced.
Fast forward to when digital came out, my AF1 mini got put in a drawer, I still have it somewhere. People sold off their 35mm camera gear.
I bought an mju II zoom 170 for £10 when nobody wanted them., I recently sold it for £180.
I've since picked up an mju zoom 105 for £20 it even came in a period correct United Colours of Benetton case, which has to be worth more than half of what I paid for the camera.
I'm enjoying using it just like my AF1 mini, although I do have it advertised for sale. 👍
I've added your channel, hopefully you'll connect with another retro camera owner?
One of my latest short videos shows my current retro camera collection.

That's quite a story! It's fascinating seeing how much things have changed over the years with digital mediums taking over. But, there's a bit of an analog resurgence right now. Yes, prices for film and cameras are still going up, but, whoever's dedicated to it will stick around.

@@Koghly I'm enjoying rediscovering film and still have several 35mm cameras, even though I buy and sell them on.
The Olympus mju zoom 105 I got a good price for it, eventually selling it for £150.
I now have a Canon EOS 500n or (rebel g) SLR and currently have some Ilford HP5 B/W film in it.

Yeah, I'm convinced the Contax is overrated. This video definitely makes the case for the MJU. Love the pics! Great work, Karim!

I've never used the Contax. I know you have tho so your comment is the other voice we needed for the case of the MJU. Thank you as always Mr. Baker 🙏

your voice is very quiet in all the videos a mic would really help or if you're using one get it closer

Are your photos in the video edited at all? Just wondering!

    • @Koghly
      @Koghly  Год назад

Great question. I don't do any major edits to my photos. If anything, I'll usually make minor exposure adjustments or tonal adjustments to correct the scans. So, for example, if I get the scans back as leaning to far towards green or magenta, I'll just correct that.

@@Koghly Thanks for the reply! I love your photos btw! I was starting to get discouraged as I watched videos online because my photos on my Olympus were coming back green and no one's RUclips photo examples looked like mine. I wasn't sure if it was me or if it was the photo lab. But I've been fixing all of them in post.😂

There is nothing special about a MJU II. It's a plastic bodied point-n-shoot with the same auto focus and exposure system as most others of its era. It has a 4 element Tessar copy lens, which is much better than the original MJU,. which optically is one step up from a disposable camera. It's shutter speed claim is irrelevant and its water proof claims are suspect at best. So, it's about the same as any other $75 consumer point-n-shoot which is 30 years old. Buy and use one as though every shot is its last - no tears; no repairs. Since it has no user controls, literally, it teaches nothing about photography, so it is an end in itself, not a path to learn photography.
