Regardless of the quality of the hitter you're facing, I would argue that the prudent move is to walk the first hitter in the bottom of the 10th. If the runner on second scores the game is over, so the only thing that really changes by putting Devers on is that you make a double play possible. And then to pitch to Devers when you can hardly get him out any time we face him just makes Scott's decision making look that much dumber. Despite this frustrating loss, I still like what I saw from this team this road trip. The deadline acquisitions have clearly made this team more formidable.

Servais is pretty terrible at in game strategy and on the fly decision making

This series wouldn’t matter that much if we hadn’t lost six games against the Angels. Like they’re a difficult team, we could’ve won both games we lost, it would be that bad.
But we lost six games against the Angels that we’re never getting back, we have to make those up against harder opponents.

Garver would be less frustrating if he was just used as a backup catcher. Maybe we could've traded for a different backup, maybe Garver was that immovable to M's leadership, but either way Servais can't keep running him out there as a bat-first option. Of course the threats Garver mentioned don't help either.
It's worth noting for Philly that their first two starters we're set to face are AAA emergency callups, so that aspect of the series should be in our favor. Matching what Houston recently did to the Dodgers would be optimal but any wins against this year's best team is gravy to me.
As for CY considerations, keep in mind that fWAR (based on FIP- for pitchers, i.e. "what would happen if baseball only had BBs, Ks, & HRs") is much less useful than bWAR (based on ERA+, i.e. what actually happened) for figuring out frontrunners. Note that no Mariners pitcher is even top 10 in bWAR in the AL. Right now the favorite is Tarik Skubal (most bWAR, but more importantly is top 5 in most relevant categories) though the race is rather tight.

Damn, i missed the game. Im looking at the box score. 7 hits, 5 walks, and 27 LOB? Where did the other 15 baserunners come from? I have no idea, it just seems strange. I was pumped when Snider got O'Neil out swinging. But Devers just kills us. I agree with walking him to set up the double play, and because of what he seens to do to us every game. The guy is good! Diaz in the 10th is a mystery. And we are dropping like flies again! J.P., Julio, Robles, Polanco, and poor Santos, he has to be feeling snake-bit. It seems like every game Scott makes moves that make wonder what he is thinking. I don't like to be a Monday morning QB, but I've watched a lot of baseball in my life, and I'm seeing too many questionable moves. He needs to buy me a bottle of Jim Beam. Great video, J! Take care!

Thought that must be the combined left on base, but it was only 13 for Seattle and 11 for Boston.
Mariners did have three hit by pitch base runners, Randy x1 and Raley x2 (the spirit of Ty France lives on), and ofc the ghost runner in the 10th.

I don't understand why Scott didn't allow Cade to bat against Jansen. He's a lefty against Jansen, a righty. Why put in Haniger if you're such a favorite of going with percentages when pitching? WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT, SCOTT?????

There on a 51.8% winning percentage slightly below the 54% that dipoto said was there goal this was a tough one to end the road 2 runs at fenway is not going to get it done 13 men left on base 1 for 14 with risp yikes that's why they lost

Slightly below Jerry's magical 54% but exactly in line with his record as M's GM thus far

Yea I think our best bet is Haniger and Garver platoon at DH. And then Garver plays as catcher when Cal is off.

2 people to blame most: Garver for being a complete POS, and Servais for not pinch hitting for said POS with LITERALLY ANYBODY ELSE!! And puting Diaz in to pitch in the 10th to face Devers was a complete “waving of the white flag” type of decision. Thanks Jerry for not upgrading the backup catchers position (Janson was clearly available). That would’ve been a HUGE upgrade.

Yeah, anyone threatening Garver's life credibly, should probably go to jail before they're able to unsubscribe lol. Definitely something we'll see more of as the gambling sites continue to freely advertise everywhere, the really ugly stuff will happen when fans can gamble AT the stadium in the near future. Hopefully, you are at least cognizant of those kind of things when talking to sponsors.
All that said, Garver had a bad game. The pitching staff held the Red Sox in Fenway to under 5 runs, regardless of the decision making stuff that should be a win. Not scoring on several bases loaded is killing us, it hasn't been only Garver's problem. The whole lineup needs to start hitting, it'd be nice if Raley had another heater to end the year like you said.
Glad to be out of the crazy offensive environments and headed back to Seattle. Good thing we only have to play the best team in baseball next. Just don't get swept lol.

Crazy how things change in 1 day now we might lose both of our hottest bats an important arm and first place thanks to Pittsburghs just choking that game away vs the Astros

Do you think they could possibly bring up Emerson Hancock up to supplement the bullpen? This was a tough loss. And shame on the people putting death threats out on Garver. The fact that he was in the lineup was a managerial decision. I’ll be sharing your RUclips page with my facebook friends. Thanks for doing what you do 🫡

I think Hancock could profile well in the pen, but with Woo's health you kinda need him as the backup plan

To be honest, I'm done with Scott officially at this point. I just worry we lose Dipoto as well. As much as the fans love to complain, Jerry Dipoto is one of the best minds in all of baseball and would absolutely dominate if he just had a semi decent payroll to work with.
