- What can I say about Rammstein "Auslander"? What a great song and what a great guest. This counselor had some amazing points and we never even read the words. We literally realized that reading the words was pointless. The video actually told us everything we needed to know as Old Guys.

Das war wirklich mal eine sehr gute Diskussion über einen Song, den er eigentlich nur visuell verstanden hat. Trotzdem, habt ihr beide es voll auf den Punkt gebracht.

When the Germans had colonies in Africa, German Southwest and German East Africa (today: Namibia, German East Africa, Tanzania, Burundi and Rwanda) behaved like the British!
Burundi and Rwanda. Never heard of it. I only read once that the Germans exchanged Zanzibar for Heligoland.
They are East Germans btw,I guess that plays lots in their controversial,stereotype-crashing style and ways.Their texts are quite deep at times-here also it has some multilayering meanings,what youll miss not knowing the lyrics or know their German position and perspective ;)
I'm German and I understand almost everything, just the younger ones have a problem with some words. You have to imagine, it's almost like Shakespeare.

No, none of that. They, just like me, are purebred Germans. The blonde baby is the youngest son of Schneider, the drummer. That's why he's crying, because dad says goodbye. 😂
I don't think it is British Imperialism, but what happened to Africa in general with an emphasis on what Germany(or rather, the German Empire) did. People always just focus on what Britian did, but most of Europe was getting in on this with Africa. Britian and France were the leaders, but Germany was the 3rd largest. Italy, Belgium, Portugal and Spain were all in on this sort of thing.
I think if the French and British hadn't had colonies, they wouldn't have come up with the idea in Germany. As far as I know, Bismarck was against it
@@annegretkasten6277 I don't think colonization was so simple. Most of this started with the abolition of the slave trade and complete economic collapse of Kingdoms/countries in Africa that relied on slavery to make money (like Benin) and then the Suez canal project a fair bit later. If the Suez had never been built, colonization probably would've been heavily delayed. As soon as you rely on infrastructure in a foreign country, you have a strong desire to meddle in politics in said country to ensure control or access to that infrastructure.
@@annegretkasten6277 Of course, German colonization of Africa had started well before Bismarck was even born. But yes, it didn't really go mental until the rush to grab up African territory by other European nations.

Auslander means "out lander" or outsider. Rammstein lyrics are often filled w duality and are open to interpretation. Good job guys. But please read Lord Of The Flies...its part of childhood education.

I'm not sure it was imperialistic, Germany had a bunch of colonies in Africa before the end of WW2, when Germany was defeated the United Nations took away their African colonies.
