I recently got the opportunity to play through the beta for "Hunt the Night" by Moonlight Studios published by Dangen Entertainment. This is an in-depth review of my experience playing the game.
Hunt the Night has a lot of elements reminding me of retro games like A Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past, yet it's also similar to such classics like Metroid and Castlevania. Its combat helps set it apart from these games though, and it almost feels more like Dark Souls or Bloodborne in terms of mechanics. This makes it a little difficult to categorize beyond saying it's a top-down action adventure RPG.
Thanks go to Dangen Entertainment for providing me a review copy of the game. This review was not sponsored in any way.

I agree with your scoring system. If you're using a 10 point scale, 5 should be average.
I prefer "mediocre" but yeah.
@@TheTrueRandomGamer why would mediocre be the middle?
Would be great when the company decides to talk to the people who sponsored them through kickstarter and update them more about the console releases
I think it could use a map. There are so many locked doors. And a lot are doors within doors. Probably biggest gripe so far. But having fun for sure
Same, hate when a game just expects you to memorize where everything is. Also unrelated but because the game doesn't have a map I think it's wrong to call it a metroidvania. It has similarities to metroidvanias but without a map it's just a 2d souls like
@@muxx2810 mein dudden, you have 1. a pen and paper, 2. a snipping tool(if you're on windows), 3.just take your phone and take a picture of the screen
great looking game. gonna keep my eyes on the developers for future releases.
Hope you've already tried Crosscode.
It’s interesting to see someone else use the idea of max rank been perfection or as I put it when describing it to someone “”this is literally the best in its field and I will never find its equal it is perfect in every way and I can literally stop doing whatever it is as nothing can messer up”” personally I think most people are far to willing to give out high scores for no real reason, Amazon is terrible for this I can’t count the number of times I see a 5 star rating that has a negative comment saying how much they dislike the product or that something was wrong with it, oddly I see a similar thing with 1 star reviews there is 1to5 system for a reason just like there is a 1 to 100 system for stuff like games and films which is why I find IGNs idea of a 7 been average to be odd, 5 (or 50) is the mid point if you are above that your doing good or even great and if you are below that there is a problem that needs to be fixed in your product (of course taste and raise or lower a ratings and not everything is for everyone)
the one hit mode seems awesome
tried it, couldn't make it past the 3rd boss out of 7
I didn't know this game even existed, it looks very interesting and I dig its Blasphemous + BB vibes and gameplay; might try it out
Good video as usual man, I wouldn't mind seeing you do more of these game reviews. I believe you're someone I can trust lol, 97% of game reviewers are so trash nowadays
As someone who has beaten all the souls games the first major boss is kicking my ass. Like 5 diff attacks all causing diff amounts of damage firing off in no set pattern. I can’t beat it
Don't give up, skeleton!
Great video . Thanks for posting. Please review more indie games and I 'll sub.
Not a ‘vania.
Wow, a 7, from you? That means it’s actually a game worth playing. Nice
man i playd the demo and really liked it..i thought it was going to get a lot higher...BTW 20 hrs is too long lol...usually 10 hrs is good enough but i dunno.. I was hoping the game was better...
The combat is too stiff, and the difficulty is very unbalanced.
The world is goodish, but the lack of a map takes away from the exploration.
The range option feels like an afterthought. And the cursor disappears after you shoot and release the aim button, and comes back when you aim again, and that would be k, but you attack in the direction your cursor is aiming, so yeah shooting the middle of the combat becomes a chore as the game goes on.
The difficulty at the latter end is just brutal in All the bad ways.
All the good reviews that i have seen , the game is given a semi good score, but I think that is mostly due to the fact that it's an indie game and is recieving sympathy point.
But all that said, it's not a hidden gem, it's an unpolished piece of silver at best, and you can enjoy it, but you might feel frustrated at every point due to what it could have been, a bit more polish and it would have been a hidden gem.
