- Part 11 of my journey into Rallying. Focussing on the preparation of my mk2 Escort. This car was sold to me as ‘mint’ and ‘ready to win your class’ which by all accounts is stretching it a bit !
In this video I get the ns rear quarter off and find a bit of a mess with the inner quarter. This took a lot of time to repair nicely, but it turned out good in the end. I get the quarter trimmed and ready to fit.
As always appreciate you watching and if you can like and subscribe that would be great.

It looks worse and better each video! Keeping the enthusiasm is almost the most difficult part as you say! Keep it up, impressive work so far
@@samjones8565 thanks Sam hopefully it’ll start looking proper soon as that will be a big moral boost!
A running joke we had years ago after buying a shed of a car was, Seller > "It's mint, mate."
Us later, "Yeah, like a Polo mint, full of holes!"
@@YootubeUK ha ha that’s definitely the case here. Buyer beware I guess, which leaves the fault on my lap. And I should know better no doubt about it.
@@SmokingJoesRacing Ah, we've all been sold something we shouldn't have just because we wanted "that car". My Mk1 Mexico I bought without looking over it was far worse than your Mk2 but as that was 20 years ago it all cost a lot less back then! I miss the days of cheap cars from the 70's, 80's and 90's!
@@YootubeUK we live and learn. I miss those days too, all of the best cars for sure
Making good progress. Congrats on the Mini 7 award - you'll be out winning awards in the Escort before you know it!
@@WayneinOz that would be something after all this work. Thank you mate
Your doing a grand job ,she’ll be like brand fire new when you get er all done 👌
@@michaelstainthorpe1569 hope so 🤞 cheers
Cracking job carnt wait to see the end results on this one.
@@1mitchbird seems a long way off but it’ll come good cheers 🍻
May have been cheaper to buy a Chinese shell and seam weld, and rally prep it from there. Loving the enthusiasm and bravery though. 👌🏻
@@paulpobsanderson6219 I’ve said this to myself already. Definitely would of been quicker and I really want to get out in it this year crazy as that sounds
Invest in a sprinkler stretcher for doing the curves on your repair panels you won't regret it
@@karlkerkhof7966 I’ll have a look thanks 🙏
Just a suggestion, Finnish the two rear quarters first, and cut out the other tub and turret, fit the new turrets together and exchange the 15inch tubs for the ones with the cut outs for the turrets , they make it a lot easier to fit . And make a template of the 15inch tub so you can transfer it to the quarter .but definitely 15inch tubs with turret cut out is the way to go. Keep battling.
@@GabrielOLeary thank you bud I’ll have a look at that. This next stage is looking tricky now sent myself dizzy measuring things yesterday
Will you hang the door before you weld the quarter to the car just for peace of mind? Enjoyed your video, a good find.
@@RTC057 yes definitely had door back on and it looked really good. The post needs to come out a little bit at the bottom when I get to the bulkhead install obviously the post moves a bit at the minute didn’t want to weld it too floor yet until bulkheads in place
7 mins in on your video, you discuss the inner fire break closing panel not welded onto the quarter, this infill panel is not welded to the quarter panel but fitted with a small gap running from top to bottom, using a correct sealant to finish, the main reason is any pressure applied on the outer panel will leave a crease line.
@@ericd1524 cheers for that will bare in mind. It was pretty flimsy flapping around on edge of inner quarter presumed it’d want fixing better some how
