I’m not from Vancouver but I remember walking past this building thinking wow it’s so cool to see this place still in operation It was one of the only buildings downtown that seem to even have any character.

I hope the replacement design reflects the heritage of the neighbourhood. Not the metal and glass collage that plagues the city's architecture today.

I assume that the city's planning policies ensure that new additions are compatible or even using the same language as heritage buildings. I share your concern but I think it's already covered.

Before work begins on the demolition or salvage of machinery, equipment, a building or a structure, or the renovation of a building or structure, all employers responsible for that work, and the owner, must ensure that a qualified person inspects the machinery, equipment, building or structure and the worksite to identify the hazardous materials, if any.

As a demolition company owner myself, there is NO WAY I would let anyone in that construction site other than skilled personnel. It is a terrible safety risk. On top of that the liability to the City, Demo company or the building owner is enormous if something happens to someone. It is just not worth the risk
