Take it away, commenters! What should we do next in our Zappa quest? I absolutely loved this. Even though it got demonetized, it was worth it. Absolutely hilarious...
COCAIN DECISIONS, a forgotten radio hit. It charted for a while in the 80's and a great sing-along tune. It is a bit short so maybe play the following tune called SEX, which is second on the album after this one.
@@marcribe6483 When Frank reassembled Zappa In New York and the other three albums that WB didn't pay him for, he brought the newly packaged set to Mercury/Phonogram as Läther and he retitled I Promise Not To... as Läther.
😂Terry and pickle holder Dale formed the new wave band Missing Persons in the 80s and had a couple of hits. Terry also played drums on Jeff Beck's Guitar Shop album.
FZ knew what he was doing, as a 14 year old stuff like this is what drew me into the Zappa world, and because of this open door I discovered the most amazing music on the planet. Thanks Frank, Miss you
Trust me, side 2 of Roxy & Elsewhere: Village Of The Sun > Echidna's Arf (Of You) > Don't You Ever Wash That Thing? .... You may need a few hours to recover.
GREAT TUNE, lots of great tunes on this one. Released as a double album, There is a secret 3rd album of this too. The stage band from Saturday Night Live became Franks Band to record this show. This includes Don Pardo.
Not quite. Frank put out 62 albums in his lifetime, many more have come out posthumously, but of his 62, many more are live than "studio" albums. Even what you could call his "studio" albums have songs that were live and then tweaked in the studio.
FZ said something like, “Get ‘em in the door with Ti**ies and Beer, then hit ‘em with Black Napkins.” ‘nuff said. Bozzio as the Devil, can’t keep it together. Lol Nomads MC. Frank was followed by many biker clubs, like the Nomads and Hell’s Angels et al….
I saw F, Zappa twice in the 70's, once at the Cole field house at the University of Maryland and then at the Capitol Center in Laurel ,Maryland. he was amazing. MY Friend named, Frank ,bass player, turned me on to Zappa! Between Hendrix & Zappa My life was never the same. God Almighty! Never saw Jimi Live but I saw a heck of a lotta concerts,as a teenageer in the 70's including Zappa! Mother Finest was an awesome band to see, back then too, amoung many others.....
His son has the guitar that Jimi Hendrix played and set on fire at Monterey Pop Music Festival. He kept it in attic...son got it, rebuilt it, plays it today!!! "Priceless" 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
I don’t know if you have done Bamboozled By Love yet, but that’s a great one. There are two versions, a fast one and a slow one. I can’t decide which one I like better, but most likely you will like them both, and either one will be demonetized 😂
Oh right!!! I’ve been waiting for this one. The first Zappa song I ever heard at nine years old. I also promptly memorized all the words. And I still remember them from that particular show because they change. Lol.❤❤❤
used to hear this on the dr. demento show all the time (heavily edited of course). drummer terry bozzio plays the devil and during the song he says, "hey dale would you like to come up here and hold my pickle to satisfy this weird man out here on the stage". dale bozzio is his wife who was the singer for the band missing persons ("walking in L.A"., "words", "destination unknown").
I am 58 years old- my 16 year old neighbor played this version for me on his 8 track tape player along with Kansas carry on wayward son and Kiss Alive 1 and Aerosmith -toys in the attic - i was 13 at the time - been a Zappa fan since
Dude EXCELLENT reaction. Not many reactors dare to take on T&B, but keep that record in the exact spot for your next reaction off this album. The "somewhat rickety" Segway to Cruising for Burgers is about to BLOW YOUR MIND!
Lou "Blue Lou" Marini and Tom "Bones" Malone were both on screen and on stage members of The Blues Brothers Band. Frank always hired top quality musicians.
Back in college, the late 1970's, every night at 10 p.m. on our floor in our dorm, "Titties and Beer" was played LOUD, and we ALL sang along. Actually there was one dude who didn't participate, oh well. Sometimes we even got as far as "The Illinois Enema Bandit". LOL.
Love this song. FZ puts so much comedy into his music - even the instrumentals. TRIVIA: Almost a Jethro Tull connection. After Barriemore Barlow left Tull, Ian Anderson asked Terry Bozzio to join. Bozzio turned him down because he wanted to start Missing Persons with his wife Dale.
I was at the taping of this show Terry steals the show in this song IMHO Damn no video to it youve got to see terry in his devil mask maybe Ill request that version soon if thats ok
I own many Zappa albums, but this is the one that gets played the most. There is video footage of this performance, which is worth checking out. Also there are other versions of this track that include an extended rant about being signed to Warner Bros, also worth checking out. Hell yeah!
Wow!.... I've still got my original vinyl copy from the 70s, and that whole middle section is much longer than what I have. This must be a re-release. I've never hear them. As a little kid i always got a kick out of cranking this one... and i got a lot of disaproving looks from mom🤨
Omg, I haven't heard this in 20 years--- I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I used to be able to recite the entire song..😂 I love Zappa's unapologetic irreverence...
never thought I like this music, so please play anything, "Another Brick in the Wall" or "Money. I want to hear something from "Dark Side of the Moon." Alan Parsons was part of the production. and charts for 990 weeks in the US
Take it away, commenters! What should we do next in our Zappa quest? I absolutely loved this. Even though it got demonetized, it was worth it. Absolutely hilarious...
Dinah-Moe Humm might get demonetized as well but you owe yourself a listen. The late great Tina Turner sings the part of Dinah.

I Promise Not To Come in Your Mouth from the same Zappa In New York album. In the 90s, the composition got called Lather. It's an instrumental.

"Ms. Pinky" from Zoot Allures is a song about a man and his blow up doll. You should check that one out as well.

Listened to this album endlessly on 8 -track during cross country trip in '77. Perfect.
Except that it wasn't released until March of '78, soooo...
@Royalle_with_Cheese You are incorrect. I definitely listened to this in August 1977

You need to make your way through Joe’s Garage, in order too, great music and hilarious lyrics. Brilliant concept album.
One of my favorite ad-libbed lines by Terry:
"All I have to say is, God help me! Even though I have this, this fng mask on..."

How about a live version of "The Illinois Enema Bandit"? That was fun in concert.
Frank put out approx 80 studio albums. I'm lucky to have over 40 so far, all in vinyl.

I take it that you didn't get the "Faust" allusion. Frank was well versed in the classics
Id like to hear you listen to anything from You are What you Is by Frank Zappa
Hell Yeah!!!!!
Let go of your pickle devil!!!!😂😂😂😂😂
"So you just barf it back up..now devil, do you hear!?" 😮😂

Great selection Lee! First heard this on CFNY FM Toronto in 78....the only station bold enough!
Another great version is on the Baby Snakes LP from 1983.
I recently saw Dweezil play see this song! I 20 year kid was "The Devil". This dude was awesome. Played the guitar and the set at the same time.
Randy and Michael Brecker fronted the “Brecker Brothers”, one of the most successful fusion groups. That’s worth a watch also.
We love Zappa for all sorts of reason.
This sort of honest silliness is top 3.
Terry is awesome. He got a friend of mine. And his, a sponsorship with DW drums. Look up Dean Zimmer, or a doc called "Drummer Wanted"

I was at the taping of this show Terry steals the show in this song IMHO Damn no video to it youve got to see terry in his devil mask maybe Ill request that version soon if thats ok
Yay ❤ Hawaii is making a comeback!
You have to watch the performance of this in Baby Snakes movie
Bozzio is awesome

among the 23 things Frank was, was, one of the best comedians ever !
Musical humor... Arlo Guthrie, Woody's kid,,Alice's Restaurant.
ha, one of my favorites from the teen years.
Great album. WPLJ !!!

Wasn't there something about a dental floss ranch in Montana?
Yes, the song is called, "Montana", it's on the "Overnight Sensation" album.
With Tina Turner and the Ikettes on brilliant backing vocals ..
Its basically Igor Stravinsky's "L'histoire du Soldat" ballet if it took place in the 70s with a biker instead of a Soldier.
Frank was ahead of his time
You should do I Promise Not to Come in Your Mouth
There was a werewolf hopping along the side of me!
In a related request; have you heard Rodney Carrington’s rendition “Show Them to Me”? 🍻

Zappa was so ahead of his time…some say music still hasn’t caught up
I treasure my original Titties and Beer tee shirt.
You should watch the live video! Trees Bozzio: aka: Tge Devil, wears a hilarious Devil mask!
Terry bozzio on drums and the part of the devil
Chrissy puked twice! Like everything, there are multiple versions of this song. Look for the Chrissy Puked Twice version :)
nice hat
Did you notice that the drums stopped it’s because Terry Bozio played the devil. You had to be there great show

Hilarious funny story.
ONLY SONGS I RECALL FROM FRANK ZAPPA WAS GOOD ONE "PLASTIC PEOPLE" AND "SUSIE CREAM CHEESE" 😎😎😎😎😎
vhat ees thees "sainse of hoomor" you speak of?
Can't stand Zappa. Don't hate me. I am here.... supporting.😊

You don’t like Zappa, do you?
I swear I do declare how did she get back there ?
One more time for the world!
