She fell victim to the voting system. The 3 songs receiving the most votes would be qualified for the final. But the viewers only had one vote - making the tsunami boys in a demographic group of their own, receiving most of the votes of the younger voters. Ulrikke, because of the history of not going to Rotterdam because of Covid, and because she was the press focus ahead of the night, was also in a league of her own. And with both Kate Gulbrandsen and Alessandra Mele having good songs and performances, the competition for the last ticket to the final in Trondheim, most likely was between those two. But with only one vote per viewer, and with only online or scan QR voting, that favored the younger contestants, whose fans new how to vote. Had the viewers had 3 votes - or SMS voting would have been possible - Kate Guldbrandsen would have stood a much better chance of getting to the final.

Voting should be from the last qualifying and until Wednesday evening before the Saturday final. When Saturday came, non of the artists new if they were in the final, or not. But spent until Friday rehearsing their songs and numbers. When the final started, neither they, nor the viewers, knew who the finalists were. The 10 entries having been awarded the most points would one by one - in random order - be called to the stage, perform their song, then another of the top 10 would be called to the stage to perform. And so it would continue until all 10 finalists had performed. Then the voting would have started. Each viewer would get 3 votes. He/she could award one song the full score. One song 2 and one song 1 point, or 3 songs 1 point. After that the winner would be the song receiving the most points. Don't think it would be possible to get it any fairer than that. It would also test which artists could handle the pressure the ESC is.

Ar you kidding? Kate is an experienced artist with an amazing voice. She would never use autotune. Her voice sounds like that… She represented Norway in 1987 when she was 22.
@In my mind 🎼 Back in 1987 I was a member of the West German ESC jury and Kate's "Mitt liv" was (and still is) one of my favorites. I remember very well her performance in Brussels (drawn first in the running order) and that Norway received 7 points from us ... Anyway, it's absolutely amazing to see her again after so many years - and I love "Tårer i paradis" as well! 💙
