- Society has just agreed people can’t publish novels criticising Mohammed as “different rules apply” with Islam, says author Douglas Murray.
It follows the stabbing attack on novelist Sir Salman Rushdie in New York.
Mr Rushdie has had a fatwa calling for his death for his novel The Satanic Verses since 1989.
“This is of course intolerable,” he told Sky News Australia.
“It’s the demand of one fanatical sect of Islam to dictate not only what all Muslims will be able to say, but what everybody else is too.
“And that should be deemed totally intolerable with any sense of pride.”

Re illegal immigration, I'm an American living abroad, married to a non-US citizen. For me to bring my husband of nearly 20 years to the US with our American kids will cost us thousands of dollars, years of waiting, and submission to unwanted medical procedures. Allowing immigrants to cross the border as they are now is such an insult, not to mention so disheartening!

Since the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) had not set out with the intention of engaging in war, but had intended to perform 'umrah, he (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) started negotiations with them and they made a treaty that came to be known as the treaty of Hudaybiyyah. In this treaty, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) agreed to a number of things, including: "Any individual from the Quraysh who runs away from Mecca without his guardian's permission and becomes Muslim and joins the Muslims, Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) must send him back to the Quraysh. But if a Muslim runs away and goes to the Quraysh, they are not obliged to return the Muslim."
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) made this pact with Suhayl, the representative of the Quraysh. However, Suhayl's son, Abu Jandal, who had become Muslim, and had been imprisoned by his father, ran away from Mecca and joined the Muslims.
When Suhayl saw him he said, "O Muhammad, this is the first case where you can fulfill your promise. If you want us to have peace, you must return him to us."
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) accepted to do so. Suhayl took his son by the collar and headed towards Mecca.
Abu Jandal cried, "O Muslims, are you going to allow them to take me back to the idol worshippers and be in their clutches?"
The Most Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said, "Be patient, Abu Jandal. God will provide relief for you and others like you. We have made an oath with them and we cannot violate our oath

The intolerance and steadfastness of Islam is something to be admired. It does not bow down to political correctness or social fads. It has stayed true throughout the ages. Unlike so many so called Christian churches, you will never see a rainbow flag on a mosque.

Modern scholarship shows that the original Mecca appears to have been Petra, towards which all early qiblas (direction of prayer) point, and that the standard Islamic narrative of what happened in the 7th century is contradicted by clear historical evidence. It appears the Quran started life as a collection of religious documents in Aramaic for non-trinitarian Christians (hence so much mention of Jesus and many scraps of different Biblical and extra-Biblical religious stories in the finished product, as well as incoherent verses once Aramaic was superseded by Arabic) and that Islam as a then new political and religious ideology to bind together the Arab empire evolved from no earlier than the 8th century until at least the 10th century. Tragically, the ideology that emerged included barbaric early medieval forms of punishment and overt bigotry towards non-adherents, including Quranic verses which command faithful believers to abuse or even murder non-Muslims simply because of their beliefs (eg 5:13, 8:12, 9:5 and 9:29 among various other violent verses).
